Tip from the Pro Keys to Consistent Iron Play Looking to hit closer, more consistent iron shots? Hitting closer approach shots is key to lowering your scores and below you will find a few tips to help with more solid iron shots. 1. Ball position is key to hitting solid irons. To be consistent, play all your irons center to just forward of center (maybe a ball or two). We do NOT want to move the ball position depending on what iron you are hitting. Keep it consistent!
Tip from the Pro Kyle Faris, PGA Head Golf Professional
2. ROTATION! ROTATION! ROTATION! A lot of you will feel the need to sway side to side to create power. This is one of the biggest mistakes most people make. Think of your spine as being an axis for your golf swing. All you are doing in your swing is rotating around your spine by turning your shoulders and hips properly in both the back swing and down swing. 3. Hit down to make the ball go up. If you watch the golfers on TV they are always making divots with their irons. That’s because the club is working down into the ground at the point of contact. The loft of the club will get the ball in the air, we do not need to swing up and sweep the ball to get it air born. Hopefully these tips will help you hit crisp iron shots and hopefully lower your scores. Kyle Faris Head Golf Professional

Join Our Interclub Team
Come out and join the DeBordieu interclub tennis team! You do not want to miss this incredible chance to join our non-USTA fun driven doubles competition with Stables and Wachesaw. This will be an open roster, so all are welcome to play when available, one time or as many times as you want! There is no set limit on the amount of matches you can play and if you cannot make one, no big deal, you do not have to be present for every match. We would be happy to work around your schedule so you can play in matches that will work whenever you are in town. There is no set line up, so we are looking forward to having as many players sign up as possible. Those who do sign up are going to be taking turns playing at each club and as soon as we have enough players, matches will be set! This team is open to all levels and your USTA rating will be matched with other players to ensure competitive matches. Now I hope you are as excited as we are to start this new interclub team, it is going to be a lot of fun, so you do not want to miss out! Come out and “serve” it up with us, hoping to see you out on the court!

2021 Summer Tennis Camps was very successful. We would like to thank all our staff for making it possible!
We would like to wish some of our staff the best of luck as we said our farewells to them in August. Elise has been a part of our staff now for about 2 years and plans to come back during winter break and next summer to continue work. For now, she will further her studies getting her Public Heath degree to hopefully attend PA school after graduating early in 2023. Ira greatly enjoyed interning and working at DeBordieu. She has received valuable experiences she will not take for granted. Iryna has accepted a seasonal position at the US Open where she will be involved with the tournament’s player operations department. She is moving to New York City for the duration of the tournament; however, after the tournament Iryna is planning to relocate to Lake Wylie, SC where she is taking on the position of the Assistant Tennis Professional at the River Hills Country Club. Letter from Coach Jessie I have absolutely loved working at DeBordieu over the summer. It was an enjoyable experience working with the kids at summer camp as we work towards building the junior programs. In addition, I loved making all the adults work hard in our early morning cardio sessions. Thank you to all the people that I met and that made working at DeBordieu that much more enjoyable. I am now starting a meeting chapter in my life and will be beginning graduate school in Louisiana this Fall. Due to COVID I had one more year of eligibility, thus decided to use my last year of tennis and get my masters while doing playing. I will start my program on August 16th at Nicholls State University, a Division 1 school, which is about 45 minutes outside of New Orleans. I plan to play on the tennis team for one year and then continue at the school for another, in a graduate assistantship capacity.
Dream Weddings at DeBordieu Club
Thank you to all who came out for our first ever group wedding tasting! On August 1st, we hosted 30 guests representing 9 of our upcoming weddings. Everyone had the chance to taste an array of menus menu items including numerous butlered hors d’oeuvres, stationary platters, and small plate stations and desserts. They also enjoyed a wine tasting sampling from our house and premium wines. We were also able to take the time to answer lots of questions and get to know our couples and their families even better.
Kathryn & Brian Dunn
were married with a Ceremony on the Courtyard and Reception in the Clubhouse. Kathryn is the Granddaughter of Kitty Vickery. The Club also catered the Rehearsal Dinner in the Marsh Grille. Photos by The Wedding Click
