The Deerfield Park District endeavors to keep its facilities and programs operating whenever possible. There may be times; however, when weather, road conditions or facility malfunctions dictate that programs and/or services must be canceled or temporarily postponed or entire facilities closed. In such cases, Deerfield Park District reserves the right to close a particular facility or cancel a program based on the following criteria: • Whenever an unscheduled closing or cancellation occurs, the park district will make every effort to communicate to patrons via the park district Weather Hotline (847-317-2555), the website deerfieldparks.org, and the metropolitan Chicago Emergency Closing Center website emergencyclosingcenter.com. • Local School Closings: Whenever School District 109 cancels school due to snow related weather conditions, all Deerfield Park District Preschool classes and all programs held at school sites will also be canceled. Closing other park district facilities or canceling classes will be made on a case by case basis. Park district facilities themselves will remain open for nonscheduled activities (e.g. fitness center use, registration, etc.) unless specifically directed to close due to weather conditions. • Facility Specific Conditions: In the event that conditions prompting closing arise at a specific facility (e.g. high winds, power outages, equipment malfunctions, flooding), classes may be canceled or the facility temporarily closed until the condition has been resolved. • ThorGuard Lightning Prediction Systems are installed at all parks, pools and schools in Deerfield. See General Information section for more information. • The following are contact numbers regarding the cancellation of programs due to poor or unsafe weather conditions:

KEEPING YOU SAFE
COVID-19
WHAT WE ARE DOING TO KEEP YOU SAFE
At the Deerfield Park District, the safety of our participants and visitors is our top priority. We have always been committed to providing safe and clean programs and facilities to the community. In accordance with state and local governmental orders, we are taking extra precautions to stay safe and healthy. This includes extensive cleaning protocols and social distancing practices in our facilities.
Masks and Face Coverings ‣ All staff, participants and visitors must wear face masks/coverings while in our facilities and in every class. ‣ For outside activities, participants and visitors can be unmasked when they are able to maintain 6 feet of social distance, except if specific activity guidelines exist.
Social Distancing & Group Sizes ‣ A minimum of 6-ft of social distancing is required at our indoor and outdoor facilities. ‣ Some of our programs have been adjusted by reducing program sizes, altering activities and staggering start times. ‣ Signage at parks and facilities and messaging on our website encourages social distancing at group size and capacity limits.
Hand Washing & Sanitizing ‣ Staff and visitors are recommended to wash hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the restroom, before eating, and after blowing their nose, coughing, or sneezing. ‣ Hands free sanitizer stations are available throughout our facilities.
Cleaning & Common Areas ‣ In addition to regular maintenance, the park district has enhanced cleaning and disinfecting procedures for frequently touched objects and surfaces throughout the day. ‣ Cleaning and disinfecting before and after each class is conducted in compliance with CDC protocols. ‣ Water fountains will remain turned off at this time; we encourage labeled water bottle use.
How You Can Help Keep Yourself & Others Safe ‣ If you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms, have a fever or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, please stay home and protect other participants, visitors, and staff. ‣ Avoid contact with others that are sick or experiencing COVID-19 like symptoms. ‣ Use proper cough and sneeze etiquette. ‣ Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands. We care about your health. The COVID-19 pandemic is serious. Please be respectful of staff and fellow visitors and understand that our staff are providing the best experience possible given the current limitations. CDC and state government procedures change frequently. We will adapt to those changes as necessary.

BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Dear Neighbors,
“When the Weather Turns, We’ve Got you Covered” at Sachs Recreation Center. Electrostatic sprayers are now used to sanitize our facility and equipment. Two AirPHX air surface disinfection units add yet another layer of sanitization to our 100,000 square foot facility where strict adherence to local and state health and safety guidelines are followed. Our daily time block fitness visit system was designed to safely accommodate our guests. Come in and see the facility to understand the plethora of services available and the well-executed sanitation plan keeping our guests safe.
and wellness options, so flip through the pages to find the right fit for you and your family. Online league play is also being offered for youths and for adults, so it might be time to try an alternative type of league play this winter.
With the beautiful weather we have enjoyed into November, the Deerfield Golf Club and Learning Center guests enjoyed an extended season this year. We are already booking 2021 league play so now is the time to plan for next year. If your golf experience includes a permanent tee-time for the year, join us on December 8, 2020 for our 2021 season tee-time lottery. Click here for details on the application process and preregistration. We appreciate the continued support at the course this year! Brand new special events, both in-person and virtual, are being offered this winter. If your children need a fun night away from your house, send them to our Parents’ Night Out in December and February. Kids will enjoy our take on a Drive-In Movie as they create and decorate their own vehicle to sit in to watch the movie. A virtual Family Minute to Win It event is a great way to engage and compete in fun, silly activities, keeping score and “competing” for prizes, all from your home! Be sure to check out the in-person and virtual weekly programs designed to keep your mind and body active. We continue to offer art, dance, theater, sports
PARK DISTRICT BOARD MEETINGS
Deerfield Park District is a municipal governing agency established to provide parks, recreation facilities and programs for residents. Five elected commissioners govern the district and set general policies. Regular meetings of the Board of Park Commissioners are held at JPCC at 7 PM on the third Thursday of each month. Virtual meetings may be held when in person public meetings are deemed not safe or practical. The public is welcome to attend. Schedule changes are posted at JPCC and here.
Patty Turner Center welcomed back in-person programming this fall and is continuing through the winter with morning and afternoon classes for up to 10 people as well as daily virtual opportunities to stay social. Their weekly newsletter provides a view of the many options that engage members through virtual lectures and cooking demonstrations to in-person exercise. Call the Patty Turner Center at 847-940-4010 to get added to their email list. We are thrilled to announce a district accolade as winners of the Illinois Association of Park District’s Best of the Best Award highlighting our partnership with North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center which is housed at the Sachs Recreation Center. This collaborative partnership was recognized for enhancing the quality of life for residents and offering specialized unique programming. Check out the award video here. Enjoy the plentiful variety of offerings this winter from the Deerfield Park District. Cheers to a new year filled with hope and enhanced opportunities. Stay safe and be well.

Before classes begin, all employees are trained on Deerfield Park District’s health and safety protocols that are aligned with DCFS, IDPH, CDC and DCEO. All precautions will be taken, including frequent hand hygiene, wearing facial coverings, health screenings with temperature checks, physical distancing, and restricted access to our classrooms. Click to read our detailed management plan. *Please note that all protocols can be adjusted as state and federal guidelines change.
CLASSROOMS Classes will operate at a reduced capacity based on DCFS guidelines. The children will remain in a stable “pod” and will not be interchanged or mixed.
PPE All staff and children will be required to wear facial coverings. Staff may utilize a shield in lieu of a mask during expressive activities such as story time. Children may remove their masks during snack time and when able to physically distance while outside.
HEALTH SCREENINGS All preschool participants and staff must register a temperature under 100.4, without fever-reducing medicine, when they arrive. Temperatures will be taken using a no touch thermometer. Any person with a fever or a failed health screening will not be allowed to enter the classrooms.
CLEANING PROTOCOLS Common areas of the preschool are cleaned hourly. High touch areas in the classroom will be regularly disinfected. Shared toys and other manipulatives will be cleaned after use. Each child will have their own supply box to reduce shared materials.

AFFILIATE ORGANIZATIONS DEERFIELD AYSO deerfieldayso.org AYSO (Area Youth Soccer Association) was established in the Los Angeles area in 1964 with nine teams. Today, AYSO is a national organization with 50,000 teams and over 500,000 players. AYSO works because of dedicated volunteers committed to the six AYSO Philosophies: Everyone Plays® Our program’s goal is for kids to play soccer so we mandate that every player on every team must play at least 50 percent of every game. It’s no fun to spend the game on the bench... and that’s no way to learn soccer! Balanced Teams Each year we form new teams as evenly balanced as possible because it’s more fun and a better learning experience when teams of similar ability play. It allows for each player to gain the experience of a wide variety of teammates of different skill levels. Open Registration Our program is open to all children who want to register and play soccer. Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing. There are no elimination try-outs and nobody gets cut. Positive Coaching Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment for the players and leads to better-skilled and better-motivated players. A coach can be one of the most influential people in a child’s life, so AYSO requires they create a positive experience for every boy and girl.
YOUNG WARRIORS YOUTH FOOTBALL Young Warriors tackle football program for grades 4-8 concentrates on football basics, with emphasis on instruction and fundamentals. Practice begins in August and is held five days per week, 5:30-7:30 PM. When school begins, practice is reduced to three evenings a week until the end of the season. Games will be played on Sundays at Deerfield High School and on the fields of other league members. (This is a traveling league; half the games are played at opponents’ fields in September and October.) Teams will be formed based on players’ grade and weight. All participants must have a completed medical history form signed by a licensed physician. The Young Warriors program will furnish helmets, shoulder pads and jerseys. Other equipment is the responsibility of the player. There will be state-certified trainers onsite during all games. The Young Warriors organization is a member of the Central Suburban Youth Football Association which includes Northbrook, Glenview, Wilmette, Evanston, Winnetka, Morton Grove, Kenilworth, Vernon Hills, Lake Forest and Highland Park. Young Warriors is a not for profit and all volunteer organization. Registration is held in May at the Young Warrior Football Association building behind Caruso Middle School. For dates and more information, call 847-948-0927 between 6 and 9:30 PM or check the website: youngwarriorsfootball.com. If you miss the May registration, forms can be downloaded from the website, filled out and sent to P.O. Box 7011, Deerfield IL 60015.
Good Sportsmanship We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO. Player Development We believe that all players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game.
AYSO EXTRA The AYSO EXTRA Program is designed to provide a more challenging level of play for those players who possess the appropriate interest, skills and abilities and to enhance each player’s experience and individual growth through the game of soccer while retaining the spirit and organization of AYSO. The goal of EXTRA is to strengthen AYSO by retaining players and volunteers in additional programs operated under the AYSO philosophies. EXTRA is not designed to overshadow or harm the standard primary program. Players must participate in the standard AYSO primary program to be eligible for the EXTRA program. The EXTRA program involves two additional weekly training sessions, one utilizing professional trainers and one utilizing volunteer team coaches, and one additional, challenging game against other local north suburban EXTRA teams. All EXTRA teams compete in a tournament at the end of the season. For more information, visit deerfieldayso.org.
PEGASUS FC SOCCER Pegasus FC, a nonprofit organization, is one of the largest independent soccer clubs in the northern suburbs. For more than 30 years, Pegasus has provided travel soccer for boys and girls of all ages. Pegasus’s mission is to develop young soccer players and instill in them a love for the game. As a nonprofit and affiliate of the Deerfield Park District, we also seek to build a family and community environment where our players build long-term friendships that will help them both on and off the soccer field. We offer soccer during the fall (August to November), winter (December to March), and spring (April to June) seasons. Our players typically train two to three times per week and have games on the weekends. We also participate in various tournaments throughout the season. Pegasus differentiates itself from other travel soccer programs through its commitment to retaining high-caliber coaches who are devoted to maximizing the potential of our players and teams. We have had a great deal of success in recent years, with many of our teams winning their divisions and also bringing home trophies from tournaments. For more information about our programs, which also include pretravel sessions for our younger players, visit pegasusfc.org, email us at julie@pegasusfc.org, or call 224-415-1960.

GENERAL INFORMATION THORGUARD
ThorGuard Lightning Prediction Systems are installed at all parks, pools and schools in Deerfield, from April through November. Horns are tested the first Tuesday of each of these months, at 10 AM. Should you hear the horn or see the strobe light at other times—or any time lightning seems possible—be sure to seek shelter. The system is meant to warn the public that conditions are right for possible lightning danger. This system is not 100 percent accurate, as it operates on radio waves which are variable. As not every unit will go off simultaneously, the public is asked to please use common sense when conditions appear threatening, even if ThorGuard warnings are not heard or seen. Follow these warnings for safety: • One prolonged horn blast signifies a strong lightning risk. • The strobe light signals a continuing lightning alert condition.
INFECTIOUS DISEASES, FOOD ALLERGIES, MEDICATION, ILLNESS
Infectious Diseases: To prevent the spread of communicable diseases, such as strep, pink eye and fifth’s disease, parents should report any diagnosed cases to the Park District office. If exposure to other participants occurred, a notification is sent home. Food Allergies: Many of our preschool, as well as cooking and other classes, will serve food; therefore, it is imperative that you notify the full-time Recreation Supervisor of any food allergies or dietary restrictions your child may have. Medication: If your child requires medication (inhaler, epi-pen, etc.) during class, medication administration forms must be completed. Please call our registration office (847-945-0650) for details.
• Three short horn blasts (and ceasing of Illness: Please do not attend class nor strobe light illumination) signal it may send children who are ill to class. be safe to return to the area, but use discretion.
