Hi Jellies! As we move closer throughout the term, please help us be able to not only meet our PTP goals, one of our main charities, but also our service hours, and dues paid member goals as well! We thank you for all you do. 04

Hi Jellies! Firstly, I hope you all are having a great day, and if not, please know that it will eventually get better, and if you need someone to talk to, I’ll always be there. I am also so honored to serve as your president this term, and I am so excited to see all the things that we can learn to do together, and also grow together. I know that I will end up making mistakes, but I can promise you that I will grow from them, and be able to learn to become a better leader, and a more welcoming person for all of you as well. Personally, I am a bit more antisocial, so it’s a little difficult for me to be the one to reach out first, but I can promise to do better as well! I hope to be able to meet all of you, and also be able to grow some closer connections as well. I’m really excited to see the things that we can learn to do with one another, and do together. Please remember that as members you are the most important thing here, as we all hope to be able to work for more service events, and be able to make our change together, step by step, even if it may be small. Our ripple will make change.

Stinging with Service, President Jessica Nguyen

Kaylie Panyanouvong

Treasurer

Hey everyone I’m Kaylie Panyanouvong. I’m a sophomore with a huge appreciation towards amazing books and talking to people about everything and nothing. My goal for this term as treasurer would definitely to be able to exceed the expectations for fundraising money whether it be organizations or for our club while still finding ways to connect with our community. I can't wait to see what’s in store and would love to bring in some newer and more creative things to do in my position that goes beyond a treasurer's known duty!

Michelle Cortes

Tech Editor

My name is Michelle Cortes I’m a freshman and a new member of key club. Some of the interests I have are reading, writing, painting and listening to one direction music. Some goals I have for key club are coming up with new ideas for our post and newsletters, as well as allowing more people to get to know more about key club through our social media platforms.

Club Advisor Rita Boyd

Kiwanis Advisor Dave Geary 07

A common misconception is that we make keys. We DON'T make keys, but we do help you open a limitless amount of doors. By that we mean opportunities. Opportunities in which you can meet and make new friendships, attend camps such as key leader in order to gain more experience/insight on being a leader, earn scholarships, and much more! Key Club is an international, student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership. There are thousands of clubs in more than 38 countries. High school student members of Key Club perform acts of service in their communities, such as cleaning up parks, fundraising for charities and organizing food drives. They also learn leadership skills by running meetings, planning projects and holding elected leadership positions at the club, district and international levels.

08

Key Club exists on many different levels in an inverted pyramid shape. The first level is the club level, which is within local high schools. A bit higher than this is the division level which groups clubs by location under one division, led by the Lieutenant Governor. Our division is D37E, led by Irma Zacharias. Clubs from then on are grouped by regions, which are led then by the districts grouped by states. The region we are in is 2, and the division is CA-NEV-HA, beng California, Nevada, Hawaii. Then, we are under the international level which encompasses America, However at the top of this pyramid, are you, our amazing members who make Key Club possible in the first place.

Why join Key Club? Key Club provides memorable service, by not working for a better cause and a better community, but we also provide memorable new experiences to carry on with you throughout your years in high school but also wherever you go in life. We work to provide back to our home, schools, and communities, but also back to you, our amazing members who are the ones who get us to this extent, and are the ones who make our goals possible to reach!

what does service mean to you?

Justine Escolano DLA Junior

For me service means more than just serving people in community, it also helps us connect and develop relationships. People from any organization will recognize your achievement based on your exhibited behavior and give you positive feedback. As your journey continues, a future awaits to guide you in your passions.

Hi! My name is Michelle Luna and I'm a 10th grade scholar at DLA. To me, service means more than the literal work one does for the community. It means the impact even one person can make for another. Being able to make a difference with events leaves a mark in so many ways. It makes you realize the amount go things you can do to help those around you. Clubs such as Key Club make you realize the true impact a high school scholar can make ;')
