THE PANSY PATCH AUGUST 2017

THE PANSY PATCH

letter from our president I am so excited to welcome 192 new members in to our sisterhood. Although recruitment may have been long it was worth it to see all our new members run to our front porch. This semester is full of new and exciting things as you start your college experience. Remember to enjoy it all. The first football game, homecoming, initiation, and big/little reveal is just around the corner. It can be overwhelming these first few months as you adapt to college. Realize that you are not alone and there is someone going through the same thing. When I was a freshmen I had no idea how much Theta would impact my life. Theta has given me the best memories and friends I could ask for you. I hope you experience the same. If you ever need anything my door is always open. keep reading : PAGE 2: LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT PAGE 3: RECRUITMENT PAGE 4: RETREAT PAGE 5: GRADES & NEW HOUSE PAGE 6: LEADING WOMAN & SAVE THE DATES AUGUST 2017 | 2

sisterhood week

Sisterhood week was held in preparation for the Fall 2017 Primary Recruitment. It began with themed practice days, where our members dressed up in outfits consisting of a Jungle KATs theme, throw-down for your hometown, and Tie-Dye to make practicing door songs more enjoyable. The local popsicle store, Steel City Pops, came for a surprise visit. Members also enjoyed a pool party at a nearby apartment complex to relax and have fun.

Recruitment 2017

Fall primary recruitment began on August 12th, 2017 with introducing all 2,647 PNMs to our Theta charm in the open house round. We were very excited to share our national philanthopy, CASA, and our involvement with the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation with the PNMs during philanthropy round. Sisterhood round was fun and upbeat with Theta inspired jerseys and quirky songs. To conclude the week, we welcomed 192 new members to our house on bid day. “Congratulations on an awesome recruitment. We’re so excited to welcome our 192 new members. Thanks for everyone’s hard work and dedication throughout the week!” - Jaycie Finch, Chief Recruiting Officer

THE PANSY PATCH

new member retreat

As we welcomed the new members into our home on Bid Day, they were quickly swooped up and headed out to their retreat! We spent our first night bonding at the hotel watching movies and having dinner together. On Sunday morning, we had breakfast together and started to play fun ice breaker games to get to know each other. The new members’ favorite game of the retreat was Bingo, because they were able to learn new things about their new sisters. The best part of the retreat was the Birmingham Barons baseball game! Affinity leaders began to teach their new sisters how to do the Theta hand sign and helped take pictures of everyone. All around, the retreat was a huge success and all the new members are excited to start the next chapter in their lives as members of Kappa Alpha Theta.

grades, grades, grades With scholarship being our highest aim at Kappa Alpha Theta, we are pleased to announce that for the past Spring semester our house ranked 6th place for grades with our overall semester GPA of 3.51. We were above the All Sorority and All Greek averages. We are so proud of our members for having another great semester with their grades.

Our new house In August the rendering of our new house was posted on our front lawn! Delta Omicron is excited to expand while keeping the same location by the stadium. Our new house will be 36,000 square feet and sleep 70 people. We are looking forward to a unique addition of a multi-purpose chapter room with a balcony on the second floor.
