Over spring break, Peyton had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Nicaragua and help patients in need. She was able to tour the wonderful country and get accustomed to the wonderful food, assist doctors preform vital signs such as heart rate and blood pressure, and also got the chance to connect with the residents there. Near the end of her time there, she helped make a rural clinic in a local church. She said, “It was a great experience that was extremely eye opening. I definitely learned a lot and the people of Nicaragua are some of the sweetest and toughest people I have ever met”.

KAPPA ALPHA THETA a day at the lake

We went to Lake Harris to take a break from studying for midterms and relax. The weather cleared up after a week filled with rain, and the sky was clear and sunny. It was the perfect day to eat donuts, listen to music, and explore the many great hiking trails Tuscaloosa has to offer.

Skating event

We had a sisterhood skating event to celebrate the initiation of our spring new members at the local skating rink and all our sisters dressed up like we were from another galaxy. It was fun to see who was able to stay on their feet, and all in all, it was a fun night of bonding!

Greek Week

For greek week this year, Theta was partnered with other Greek organizatins in friendly competitions. Throughout the week we participated in bowling, dodgeball, basketball and a dance competition. It was a dual to be the overall winner of the week based on performance and spirit!

KAPPA ALPHA THETA

Join us in raising $10,000 for CASa The members of the University of Alabama’s Kappa Alpha Theta chapter are excited to announce the launch of a month-long fundraising campaign to be held throughout April benefitting our national philanthropy, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). The month of April is nationally recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the money we raise during this campaign will support Birmingham CASA’s efforts to work with state and local member programs to support and promote advocacy for abused and neglected children. These children, often lost in the overburdened legal and foster care systems, are assigned CASA volunteers by judges to be advocates, friends, and support systems for these children. Throughout April, Theta’s Delta Omicron chapter at UA will be sharing informative messages and statistics, personal stories, and videos touching on our partnership with CASA throughout the past twenty-six years. Although awareness and funding for CASA volunteers has grown during our 26 year partnership, so has the number of children in need of a CASA. An estimated 1,200 cases in Alabama have been influenced by the compassionate, observant efforts of a CASA; however, an approximated 10,000 children in this state alone are moving through the foster care and legal systems without a CASA. In light of this alarming statistic, our chapter has pledged to raise $10,000 for the Alabama CASA Network this year during the month of April. We welcome everyone to join us in our fundraising efforts, which will include a percentage night at Fuzzy’s Taco Shop on 4/20, Silent Auction on 4/21, and 2nd Annual Crawfish for CASA on 4/22. If you would like to donate to help us reach our goal of $10,000, your contribution to CASA can be deducted under the tax code 501(c)(3) and will help to serve CASA’s mission that every abused or neglected child in the United States can be safe, have a permanent home, and the opportunity to thrive. To donate electronically, follow the link http://donate.billhighway.com/dothetacasa. If you would prefer to donate with a check, please make checks payable to ‘Alabama CASA’ and mail it to the Delta Omicron chapter at the address below.
