“Fresh Start”
T
he door has closed on yet another year and just as you may have resolved to make changed in your life so has Denovo. We have turned the page and moved our Dallas office back to our humble beginning in beautiful Miami Beach. I’ve always had a deep love for the beauty and history from this area, and in that inspiration I hope it will provide you the reader with as may wonderful memories as it has for me. Two key thing you will see from us this year is Bimonthly printing, and more locations in which you may pick up your copy of Denovo. We have also brought back the Noise section, which is a key part of bringing you new and amazing talent. This year has a lot in store for you from our team of extremely talented photographers, so make sure you never miss a single issue. Issue 7 starts out with “Noise” from not so new comer Daley, who has been building a great reputation for himself with his new release “Those Who Wait” We fall in love down under with a fantastic editorial from Sydney photographer Nick Torres. Kauwuane Burton traveled far and wide to bring you his editorial Nomad which is sure to inspire the wonderer in you. What would we do without Natasha Kertez, she was kind enough to keep the fragile plastic wrapped and shipped it direct to our front door. Don’t worry about taking off that hat of yours and neither did the lovely model featured by Heinz Weidmann in Hats Of Plenty. We welcomed photographer Philip’e to the team in our last issue and he decided to give us a glimpse of his new Vicious Couture line. The line features wonderful hand made chrome bustier and is featured as this months cover story “Colors and Chrome”. As always we hope you enjoy, and welcome to 2012!

’m sure all you makeup junkies have already noticed that lashes are a big and ongoing trend in beauty. Today’s lashes are about different styles, thickness, and different materials. Eyelashes now include paper lashes, feather lashes, glitter lashes, you name it and they’re making it. Since lashes are more frequently becoming a part of some ladies beauty regiment, I thought it would be a good idea to give some pointers to make application easier and more efficient

A lot of my clients request and adore lashes but I always hear the same story. “I don’t know how to apply them” or “I can never apply them on my own face.” If this sound familiar here are some tips to make lash application easier for you: •
•
•
•
•
Place your strip lash against your lash line, if any part of the lash falls before or behind your lash line, trim your lashes down to fit your lash line perfectly. Any trimmings you take off, save them. They can be added to the end of your lash line for a more defined look, or they can be added to your bottom lashes. Some lashes are very stiff after you take them out of their case. If your lashes are stiff bend them until they fit the natural curve of your eyelid making application much easier. If your own lashes aren’t naturally curly, curl your own lashes before applying false lashes. This prevents the lashes from looking fake and blends the two together for a more realistic look. When applying glue to the lashes, less is more. Squeeze a little out of the tube on one end of the lash and drag it all the way across the entire strip. The layer of glue should cover the top and be a thin layer.
• •
• • •
Let the glue dry for about 30 seconds until tacky so if you need to move and position the lash, it is possible. Always tack down the lashes in the front corner and end corner. These are the most common areas to lift up, if not glued properly. To tack them down, take a tiny amount of glue with an orange stick and place it over the end and front corners and let dry. Always reline any eyeliner on top of your lid to redefine your eyes after the glue has dried. Take your favorite mascara and sweep through your natural lashes into your false lashes for a more natural look. If you want more definition you can always apply any trimmings from other lashes , corner lashes, or even another pair of lashes right on top of your current pair.
Try out these tips, and flutter those lashes!

udolph Gernreich was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1922. His father was a hosiery manufacturer and his aunt kept a dress shop in which Gernreich worked as a teenager. In 1938 with numerous other refugees, Gernreich fled to the USA and settled in California. He attended the Los Angeles City College from 1938 to 1941 and then spent a year at the Lose Angeles Art Centre School. From 1942 to 1948 he worked with a dance troupe as a dancer and costume designer. In 1948, he became a freelance fashion designer. He toiled for a 7th Avenue firm making copies of Paris couture garments but really hated it. In 1951, he formed a partnership with manufacturer Walter Bass to supply clothes to Jax, a Los Angeles boutique. Some years later, he opened his own company G.R. Designs Inc. which became named Rudi Gernreich Inc in 1964. In the early 1960s Gernreich opened a Seventh Avenue showroom in New York where he showed his popular designs for Harmon knitwear and his own more expensive line of experimental garments. During the decade he acquired a reputation for being the most radical designer in America. He was quite creative, he did leggings, designed furniture, stockings, even gourmet soups, as well as clothing for children and menswear. Rudolph Gernreich is perhaps most noted for his design of the first topless swimsuit, or monokini, as well as the pubikini—a bikini with a window in front to reveal the woman’s pubic hair—and later the thong swimsuit. He was a strong advocate of unisex clothing, dressing male and female models in identical clothing and shaving their heads and bodies completely bald. He was noted for the use of vinyl and plastic in clothes, and he designed the Moonbase Alpha uniforms on the television series Space: 1999 and designed for Ebony Fashion Fair, the worlds largest traveling fashion show.
SIGNS
JANUARY AQUARIUS (Jan 20 - Feb 18)
You are philosophical this month or drawn to a new line of spiritual thinking. There may also be an urge to acquire more education, possibly through night classes. Take this time and do just that. Pursue new interests of a higher order until the 24th of the month. It will be to your advantage. Saturn is in your Sixth House of Employment and Health for the next two and a half years. You must pay attention to health issues during this time. Avoid stress. Eat right. Exercise. Get plenty of rest. There could also be some very demanding situations arise for your job during this period. Just remember to take those demands seriously and follow through in good fashion, and don’t obsess over them. PISCES (Feb 19-Mar 20) With the Sun, Venus and Mercury moving through your Eighth House of Jointly Held Assets you could find yourself chasing down insurance, tax, or the joint checking account problems this month. It’s an excellent time to start a new savings account, and start planning for the holiday season ahead at year’s end. Creative endeavors may seem cramped and stalled with Saturn moving into your Fifth House of Romance and Creative efforts, but the lesson here is form and structure. For the next two and a half years that is what you will be learning. This can be a very productive time for you if you’re willing to put in the work. ARIES (Mar 21-Apr 19) Your Seventh House of Partnerships is aglow with the Sun, Venus and Mercury this month, shining new and bright light in that area of your life. Time for a Second honeymoon if you’re married. If could bring a partnership opportunity your way if you’re not. If you’re in business with a partner, listen carefully to suggestions they may have. Saturn has moved into your Fourth House of Home and will be there for the next two and a half years. During this time you may be asking yourself if where you’re living is too small, too big, or does it meet you needs. Many a new home is purchased under this transit, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself changing your base of operations.
TAURUS (Apr 20-May 20) The Sun, Venus and Mercury are moving through your Sixth House of Employment and Health this month and you’ll probably feel a little like a Super Hero with extra powers. Just try not to go over board with work or health issues. Jupiter has moved into your Fifth House of Romance and Creative Efforts and will be there for the next year, attracting new love and new ideas along artistic lines. It could also bring about an addition to the family. Just a little “heads-up” for you in that department. GEMINI (May 21-June 21) The Sun, Venus and Mercury are all in your Fifth House of Romance this month. It could attract the attentions of a new romance. You could also find a new and interesting hobby to pursue. Children will seem extra important to you at this time. Saturn has started a two and a half year travel through your Second House of Cash and Values. You could be feeling the pinch of the “Task Master” as he teaches you how to do more with much less during this period. CANCER (June 22-July 22) The Sun, Venus and Mercury are passing through your Forth House of Home this month urging you to make some possible decorating changes or home improvements. Try to have them completed by the 24th of the month before the Sun moves into Scorpio and your Fifth House of Romance.
You should be feeling the weight of Saturn on you to make personal changes about yourself by now, as he moves through your First House of Self. During this time it should be remembered to avoid depression and if you feel low at any time, stop and ask yourself why it is that you feel this way, and make changes for the better. LEO (July 23-Aug 22) The Sun, Venus and Mercury are passing through your Third House of Communications and Short Trips this month, You could be getting a lot of emails, and phone calls from loved ones and siblings during this time. Remember to return those communications in a timely manner. Jupiter is passing through your Second House of Cash for the next year. It’s a great time to reap the benefits of the hard work you’ve been putting in for the last twelve years. Hard as it is for you to do, save some of that cash for a rainy day. VIRGO (Aug 23-Sept 22 This is a lucky month for you Virgo. The Sun, Venus and Mercury are passing through your Second House of Cash and they will most likely bring an increase of money your way this month. Jupiter is now moving through your First House of Self and he can also bring an increase your way, as in, around the waistline if you’re not careful. He’ll be there for the next year. Saturn has moved into your Eleventh House of Hopes, Dreams and Wishes. Some would say this would damp-
en your spirits, but I say you will find yourself seeking those things that are reasonable and reachable for the next two and a half years. Pay particular attention to those matters regarding your home and your loved ones under that roof. LIBRA (Sept 23-Oct 22) You have three planets moving through your First House of Self this month. Sun, Venus and Mercury will light up your life with some happy times. With Venus there you may attract the attentions of a new romance, especially while Uranus has moved back into your Fifth House of Romance until the end of the year. The focus shifts to money matters after the 24th, when the Sun enters your Second house of Cash, and you have Saturn in your Tenth House of Career, and Mars in your Sixth House of employment. There could be some changes for the better regarding your income. SCORPIO (Oct 23-Nov 21) September may feel like you’re trying to wade through molasses until the 24th. Your energy level is low and you’ll need extra sleep and rest. Don’t let people push you too hard and try to say “NO” with a little more meaning until the 24th. There could be some sudden changes in plans, including a move in your residence before month’s end. Try to eat this elephant one bite at a time and remain calm this month. If you must travel, be extra careful.
SAGITARIUS (Nov 22- Dec 21) This is your time of year to re-new or find new paths to follow for the coming year with the Sun, Venus and Mercury passing through your Eleventh House of Hopes, Dreams and Wishes. Plan well in the financial areas in your life, as Saturn is in your Eighth House of Joint Finances. You may find that your partner’s income cannot be trusted for the next two and a half years; you will have to develop means to offset this unreliable situation. Mars is in your Fourth House of Home, and this can cause problems with where you live. There may be home repairs that are needed, or discord with your happy home. CAPRICORN (Dec 22-Jan 19) Your career is alive and well this month, as the Sun, Venus, and Mercury pass through this sector of your life. There could be a promotion, or a raise in store for you or a new job assignment, with a trip out of town, as well. Finances can be tricky through the rest of the year, so be thrifty with all you do. You will have to pay very close attention to any committed relationships you have for the next two and a half years, as Saturn is moving through your Seventh House of Partnerships. If you’re married this could bring some testing times your way. Be prepared for some bumpy roads ahead.
