Fragile? Fragile is something that can be easily broken, fragile is something to take care of, fragile is… is glass fragile? Sometimes it is, but sometimes not. Let’s find out together how many things you can do with glass! Glass is a well-known material, made of natural elements (fire, sand, soda). The hands of man can create artistic glass, while a machine repetitively produces everyday objects such as the ones you see at home: glasses, vases, bottles, window panes… The artists you will encounter in this exhibition through their artworks on display come from distant places, some of them are young, some others are old or are no longer alive. What do they share? They have shaped an idea by putting together objects and materials they had around them: glass, but also soil, wood, iron, rags… 1 Look at this artwork: the glass panes look like veils! Depending on whether you stand in front of or next to it, you will see your image reflected in a different way!

5 Here is glass presented in three different ways: real, photographed and described by words.

8 Here you are cut in two: on one side the mirror, on the other side the glass pane.

6 These glass panes have arrived intact and the artist has asked us to break them into pieces for his artwork to be as you see it now!

9 This skull is desperate… its eyes pop out of their sockets!

7 Let’s play Bingo!… These numbers can also be found in nature: five are the petals of a violet, three are the leaves of a clover, four is missing… the four-leaved clover is indeed rare but it brings good luck to those who find it!

10 In the bottles you can put messages to send far away… amazing, isn’t it? 11 Many hearts that beat and talk together. If you pay attention, you will hear many voices. 12 In an antique vial there is new air, in a new vase there is antique dust. 13 Pippilotti is a very creative girl. She imagines breaking glass with a flower… Is it possible? Perhaps the smile of the policewoman tells us that it is just fantasy!

2 An earthquake brings fear and destruction and glass is the first to shatter! 3 This cube has travelled a lot, and it is now damaged due to all the rough handling it has been subjected to.

14 Someone has left the bottles after the party!

4 In this vase there is the heart of a comet pointing northwards. PROGETTO DIDATTICO ARTSYSTEM - 05/2013 GRAFICA L+L AD3.it
