YALI Murano Glass Design was founded in 2008 by Marie-Rose Kahane. Although a qualified psychologist, Marie-Rose has a background in design and worked for many years in fashion, eventually establishing her own label. She is, however, passionate about all areas of design and is greatly inspired by her surroundings. Therefore, when she and her family relocated to Venice from London in 2008, Murano glass was the obvious medium by which to express her boundless creativity. Marie-Rose has had a long association with Venice, visiting regularly as a child and acquiring a new piece of Murano glass on each
visit. As her collection grew, so did her knowledge of the glass, and the next logical step was to create her own works. The YALI collection began on a very small scale and was originally created simply to use at home by the family. Gradually, however, guests began to enquire as to where they could purchase the beautiful pieces, and so began the organic expansion of YALI Murano Glass Design. Simplicity and functionality are key elements in Marie-Rose’s design aesthetic. Clean, simple lines ensure that the YALI collection is both elegant and understated, functional yet tactile. Working closely with master glass blowers, or
maestros, on the island of Murano, Marie-Rose triumphantly marries modern design elements with centuries-old techniques. Each piece in the YALI Murano glass collection is blown by Maestro Roberto Finotto and his team of craftsmen at the Abate Zanetti furnace on Murano. As well as being a working furnace, Abate Zanetti is also home to the island’s glass blowing school. Here, traditional techniques and expert knowledge are taught to students and artists from all over the world, ensuring that this precious and ancient art form continues to flourish and grow.
