FROM THE HEADMASTER
Dear Members of the Devon Prep Family, St. Joseph Calasanz wrote in the preamble to his constitutions, “if children are diligently imbued from their tender age in piety and letters, they will, without any doubt, have a happy course for the rest of their life. Every day I wake and have the opportunity to greet our boys as they make their way into Devon Prep. I am reminded of the special task Saint Joseph Calasanz has granted me, the looking over your boys and guiding them through their days as adolescents to become young men, educated in the light of God. I am thankful for our boys and thankful to be at Devon Prep. Now is the time for me to thank you. I thank our parents for entrusting us to lead your boys at this important time of their lives. I thank our entire family - parents, alumni, grandparents, and friends, for all of the support you provide us. Devon receives support in so many different ways, some financial, some in word and some in deed. We are grateful for all of your support and do our best to make the most of your generosity. The support you provide today, will be lasting. It will allow us to educate boys, of many different backgrounds, to make our world a better place. It will allow us to strengthen our foundation for growth and expansion to inspire school spirit. It will unite our past and present to create a legacy of brotherhood for years to come. I have more dreams, about what Devon Prep can be. The future of our institution is bright and a model of our Calasanctian values--Charity, Humility, Patience, Community and Honesty. This community is a special one, and I thank you for caring and giving so heartily to it. God Bless You! Gratefully,
Fr. Francisco J. Aisa, Sch.P. Headmaster

DEVON PREP STRATEGIC PLAN
PREPARIGN FOR THEFUTURE
THE FUTURE OF DEVON PREP For 60 years, Devon Preparatory School has been educating young men under the traditions and values of St. Joseph Calasanz and the Piarist Order. With over 2,400 Alumni throughout the world, our school has a rich and accomplished past. We are proud to say that Devon Prep lies in the hearts of our Alumni, wherever they land, which means Devon Prep is truly everywhere. In the fall of 2015, with encouragement and guidance from our Board of Trustees, we embarked on the process of taking a critical look at our school’s functions and prioritizing needs for Devon Prep to move forward into the 21st Century as the leading, private, all boys school in the Philadelphia area. Members of the Board of Trustees, Piarist community, alumni, faculty, staff, parents and alumni parents were given the opportunity to see the framework of the Strategic Plan, offer feedback on our progress and assist in creating a breathing document that would be used to pave the way for our future. We recognized many things during the process, but most importantly, we wanted to present a plan that will articulate a clear and transparent school vision while aligning, inspiring and energizing our entire community to be proud of our past and embrace our primary goal in educating young men, for life. We are excited to share with you our Strategic Plan for the future of Devon Prep.
DEVON PREP IDENTITY
THE MISSION OF
DEVON PREP Devon Prep is a private, Catholic, college prep school, grades six to twelve, focused on the holistic education of young men for life. The mission of the Piarist order is the holistic education of youth. Founded with the moto “Pietas et Litterae,” meaning “Piety and Learning,” the order continues to evolve at and with Devon Prep. Devon Prep serves as an important priority in enabling the Piarist mission of preparing young men for the rigors of 21st Century life by modeling, in word and deed, the Piarist values of charity, humility, patience, respect, and simplicity.
Devon Preparatory School is singularly focused on preparing young men not just for college, but for the entirety of their lives. By operating our school at the speed, intensity, and standards of real life, our young men are well positioned to succeed and be leaders for their lives and callings beyond Devon Prep. We educate and inspire our students by holding them accountable to the highest academic and moral standards. Through the support of the entire Devon Prep community, students learn how to demand high standards from themselves. At the same time, we understand the stresses a rigorous environment can create for our young men. The Devon Prep community is committed to the emotional well-being of our students. Through the teaching of coping skills, stress management, and creating a trusting environment where students can share concerns, students learn how to navigate the challenges of life in a constructive, healthy way.

ANNUAL REPORT OF GIFTS 2016-17
Our Catholic, Piarist-centered tradition ensures the highest priority is educating the total young man (intellectually, spiritually, physically, and emotionally). Devon Prep’s intimate, but diverse, student body population is a strength and an advantage. Faculty and staff get to know each student on an individual level, the school can make adjustments and adaptations more quickly than larger, slower institutions, and we can foster a deeper sense of school community. Devon Prep is a rigorous, world class academic institution. Our key differentiator is our focus on offering the highest quality education through a challenging, cutting edge curriculum taught by a well-credentialed faculty with a deep personal alignment to Devon Prep’s mission. We teach faculty and students to focus on the learning process, not just the outcomes. By focusing on the learning process, students increase attention, develop critical thinking skills, and practice true learning. Athletics and extra-curricular activities serve to supplement and complement academic learning by building a wellrounded person. We will use tools and technology to enable students and faculty access to the best learning and teaching vehicles. Tools and technology will be evaluated to ensure they serve our learning process and not replace the process.
STRENGTHEN THE ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE While Devon Prep makes a priority to stay anchored to and consistent with our core values and mission, we must also be flexible to stay relevant with the needs of our students today. D E V O N
P R E P A R A T O R Y
To ensure Devon Prep offers the most relevant and diverse curriculum, we want to do the following: 1. Differentiate and expand curriculum offerings that address the needs and interests of our diverse and talented student body. 2. Improve our Computer Science curriculum offerings with a focus on programming and graphic design. 3. Institute a qualification policy for students to gain entry into Advanced Placement courses. 4. Offer our faculty more quality In Service Programs that will help ensure our students’ academic preparedness. 5. Create a fair, but rigorous, faculty evaluation process to promote accountability and a commitment to excellence.
IMPLEMENT AN ENHANCED STUDENT LIFE EXPERIENCE We want an engaged and energized student body with a focus on guidance, spirituality, and school pride. We want to achieve this goal through: 1. Implementing an Advisory and Guidance program which assists our students with navigating their academic, social, and spiritual lives. 2. Offering more group social interaction opportunities during and after the school day to promote emotional wellbeing, camaraderie, and pride. 3. Re-designing the service program to align with the Piarist values of charity, humility, patience, respect, and simplicity. 4. Strengthening our Calasanctian identity by participating in activities promoted by the Piarist USA-PR Province.
S C H O O L
ENSURE A DYNAMIC AND DIVERSE STUDENT BODY Devon Prep wants to ensure we are drawing from a large body of students who can enrich the entire community with different perspectives and experiences. To promote the growth and expansion of our student body, we want to: 1. Implement a three-year strategy to raise and maintain enrollment at 300 students. 2. Create coordinated and unified marketing and communication efforts throughout the Devon Prep community and external community with a specific focus on the holistic education of our young men for life. 3. Strengthen marketing to a wider family demographic through stronger, more targeted campaigns. 4. Develop long-term relationships with other Piarist schools internationally and explore an Exchange and International Program that would bring more students to Devon Prep.
STRATEGIC GOALS
THE KEY PRINCIPLES THAT FULFILL THE DEVON PREP IDENTITY:
INCREASE THE SIZE AND INFLUENCE OF EXTERNAL OPERATIONS The Office of External Operations has an opportunity to work as one to promote Devon Prep to the entire community. To maximize the Office’s impact, we will: 1. Create coordinated and unified marketing and communication efforts throughout the Devon Prep community and external community with a specific focus on the holistic education of our young men for life. 2. Cultivate interaction with current students and parents and increase the engagements with our Alumni community. 3. Expand the Devon Prep Fund (formerly the Annual Fund) to reach $1 million. Achieve this expansion with clear, tangible initiatives and more ways for the community to give to our school. 4. Establish a Financial Aid Fund and increase our scholarship offerings to create long-term stability.

THE CAMPAIGN FOR DEVON PREP
Strategic Goals, continued
UPDATE AND EXPAND OUR CAMPUS We want Devon Prep to have a first-class campus with facilities and amenities conducive to the all-around educational development needs of our students. We will achieve this in the following ways: 1. Complete the current Capital Campaign by refurbishing the 1960’s wing of Devon Prep, move the middle school to the building, re-locate the administrative offices to Calasanctius Hall and upgrade the baseball field for better play and include stadium-style seating. 2. Upgrade Devon Prep’s IT network with state of the art technology that will be used for academic and administrative needs.
PROUD OF OUR PAST… FOCUSED ON OUR FUTURE The Campaign for Devon Prep marks a milestone in the history of Devon Prep. This important campaign will allow us to build upon our proud Piarist heritage as we prepare for the future. It will advance the mission and values we all share—a top quality holistic education for our students in first rate facilities. With the generous support of the entire Devon Prep Community, the campaign provides a transformational opportunity for the school, one that is allowing us to vastly improve our facilities and to strengthen our financial position for the future.
i. Design and build a Center for the Arts that includes a 300-person auditorium for performing arts, and additional classrooms and space for student clubs and activities.
The Campaign is well underway, and through the leadership of Very Rev. Fernando Negro, Sch.P., Provincial, Rev. Francisco Aisa, Sch.P., Headmaster, Rev. James J. Shea, Sch.P., the Board of Trustees and a dedicated group of volunteers, we have made much progress toward our ambitious $5M goal. The Campaign will fund the complete renovation and modernization of the 1960s classroom building and the Chemistry Lab, athletic field seating and scoreboard upgrades and growth of the school’s endowment fund.
ii. Build a quality Physical Fitness Center for the physical training needs of the entire Devon Prep community. The center will include team rooms and restrooms.
The following donors have contributed or pledged their support to the Campaign for Devon Prep since its inception. Gifts and pledges made after June 30, 2017 are not reflected in this year’s report.
iii. Establish a campus Events Room which would provide students with additional meeting space during free periods, and dining space during lunch. We would also use this location for high-end Development programs and Alumni reunion gatherings.
iv. Incorporate a new Piarist Father’s Residence separate from functions of the school that will be the heart of the Province in America.
v. Constructions of Tennis Courts for the Tennis team and also to incorporate into the Physical Education curriculum and for neighborhood use.
3. Introduce and consistently evaluate a schoolwide Campus Master Plan for campus growth. Some initial initiatives Include:
4. Openly evaluate opportunities for land expansion to increase the footprint of our campus.

ANNUAL REPORT OF GIFTS 2016-17
IN SEPTEMBER OF 1962 FRANCIS “SKIP” GENUARDI ENTERED DEVON PREPARATORY SCHOOL AS ONE OF 90 FRESHMEN. COMING FROM VISITATION PARISH IN TROOPER, HE FOUND DEVON PREP “HAD A COMFORTABLE CAMPUS, IT WAS MANAGEABLE AND HAD A REPUTATION FOR BEING A GOOD SCHOOL.” Four years later he graduated with 59 remaining classmates. But it wasn’t until a few years after that, he began to really understand the value of his Devon Prep education. “About five years later, you look back after you’ve got your bachelor’s degree and you’re dealing with the real world, and you think, ‘I got a pretty good education at Devon Prep’,” he said. “It got me through college and it’s given me a basis for where I am now. And that’s one of the things that I reflected on through most of my life – why do I care about Devon Prep? Why do I come back here? I was appreciative in my later life, more than my time here, how much I actually learned at Devon.”
THE SKIP AND CATHY
GENUARDI
Because of his Devon Prep past Skip Genuardi and his wife Cathy have been loyal supporters of the school. His philanthropic philosophy is that you should give to something you are passionate about and that warrants your personal support and attention. Devon Prep is among his many passions.
CHALLENGE
He encourages any alumni or alumni parents who have not visited the school recently to do so. He believes the changes that have taken place to date and the improvements to come because of the latest Capital will make the community proud. According to Skip, the singularity of the programs, the small class sizes, the teacher student ratio and the community spirit of the school are all reasons to support Devon Prep.
Recognizing the value of a Devon Prep education and the importance of the campaign to the future of Devon Prep, Skip and Cathy Genuardi have offered a unique opportunity for Devon Prep. They have challenged Devon to seek new gifts to the Campaign, and they will match—up to $300,000—all new Campaign gifts and payments on new pledges that are received before March 31, 2018.
For their part Skip and Cathy Genuardi have generously issued a $300,000 Challenge Grant. From April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018 they will match all gifts donated to the Capital Campaign up to $300,000 – making it a potential $600,000 donation. This is a first for Skip and he hopes the Challenge will be a stepping stone for others to give. “The big thing about a Challenge Grant is to stretch and find new donors,” Skip explained. “There are donors out there who are prepared to give, they’re just not sure if they are ready to give yet. This also gives them an incentive. I sincerely hope that we go through $300,000 in matching funds within six months. That would be a great thing.”
Through the Skip and Cathy Genuardi Challenge, you can double the impact of your gifts made within the challenge period. For more information, please visit www.devonprep.com, or contact the Development Office.

As of June 30, 2017 Devon had raised over $75,000 toward the challenge. If you would like to help Devon Prep meet the Challenge please visit www.devonprep.com/support, or contact the Development Office at 610-688-7337.

WAYS OF GIVING TO DEVON PREP 10
DEVON PREP ANNUAL FUND
WORKPLACE GIVING
Gifts to the Annual Fund are the cornerstone of the School’s development program. These gifts, from trustees, parents, alumni, alumni parents, grandparents and friends, support the current operations of the school, providing additional resources to enrich the educational experiences of our students. It is easy and convenient to set up monthly contributions so that you can spread your gift throughout the year. Please contact the Development Office for more information.
Many companies and government agencies offer their employees the opportunity to make charitable gifts through payroll deduction. Such workplace giving programs provide an easy and efficient way to make tax-deductible donations, and to spread your gift over an entire year. Please check with your employer to see if this is an option for you, and ask how you can designate your gift to Devon Prep.
CAPITAL GIVING Devon Prep will occasionally conduct a capital campaign to raise funds for specific projects and strategic goals. During a Capital campaign, volunteers will ask everyone to make pledges above and beyond their regular annual giving. The ongoing capital campaign created The Fund for Devon Prep to provide resources for the total renovation of our classroom building and other campus improvements, as well as to fund an endowment for Devon’s future needs. Gifts to the Fund for Devon Prep allow us to meet the long-term goals identified in our strategic plan. You may make a one-time gift, or schedule your gift over several years. Please contact the Development Office to discuss a capital fund gift.
MATCHING GIFTS The easiest way to make your gift to Devon Prep grow is through matching gifts. Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by their employees. If you work for a company that matches gifts, you can double or triple the value of your contribution! Contact your Human Resources Department for eligibility information and to obtain a matching gift form, and follow your employer’s matching gift procedures.
UNITED WAY Devon Prep is eligible to participate in the Donor Choice/Specific Care Program of the United Way Program of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey. During the United Way’s annual campaign, donors may designate a gift to Devon Prep on the Donor Choice pledge/designation form through Specific Care. Devon Prep is classified as a “non-member agency,” and recorded as DEVON PREP, 363 Valley Forge Road, Devon, PA 19333, with I.D. #04636. The assigned identification number is consistent from year to year.
MEMORIAL AND TRIBUTE GIFTS Donors can further educational opportunities at Devon Prep by honoring or memorializing a special person or event. Acknowledgment of the gift is made directly to the family or designated individual.
GIFTS OF APPRECIATED PROPERTY A gift of stock, real estate or other appreciated property can provide vital support to Devon Prep as well as tax advantages to the donor. The full value of the securities is usually deductible, and you may avoid the capital gains tax on the profit.
ANNUAL REPORT OF GIFTS 2016-17

Through careful planning you can protect your family and also contribute to the financial security of Devon Prep. If you have already considered Devon Prep in your estate plans, please let us know, so that we may count you among the members of The Calasanctian Society.
GIFTS IN KIND Devon Prep gratefully accepts gifts of supplies, books, and equipment. Tax deductions are available for firms and individuals contributing gifts in kind to educational institutions.
SCHOLARSHIP GIFTS While unrestricted gifts to the Annual Giving Fund provide Devon Prep with operating funds to help maintain the quality of its academic programs, scholarship gifts enable the school to award scholarship aid to deserving students. Scholarship gifts can be made to the General Scholarship Fund, or to one of the named Scholarship Funds. You can also give or gain a little immortality while making a lasting impact on future generations by establishing an endowed scholarship in your name or in the name of someone you would like to honor.
EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT TAX CREDIT PROGRAM (EITC) OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP TAX CREDIT PROGRAM (OSTC) You can can redirect your corporate or personal PA tax dollars to Devon Prep with your contributions through two programs offered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The EITC Program and the OSTC Program, which benefits students who reside in under-performing school districts, each provide a wonderful opportunity for Devon Preparatory School, for our donors, and for the students who receive access to a quality education. For more information on these programs, please visit www.newpa.com or contact the Development Office at Devon Prep.

CALASANCTION SOCIETY
The Calasanctian Society recognizes the generosity of those who provide for Devon through deferred gifts or bequests. Members of the Calasanctian Society are special people who have shown their commitment to Devon Prep through a very meaningful and important form of financial support. These members of the Devon Prep family have named the school as the ultimate beneficiary of a planned gift by including Devon Prep in their estate plans. If you wish you could do more to continue our mission, you can! By including the Devon in your estate planning, you can provide ongoing support. You can make a gift commitment to Devon Prep but delay delivery of the gift until a later time. Planned gifts help to guarantee our future financial strength without affecting your current asset balance or cash flow. Your bequest will assure that Devon continues to educate young men in the Piarist tradition. We direct gifts made through bequests to Devon Prep’s permanent endowment, but they can be directed to another use if you wish. Endowment is a particularly effective way to leave a lasting legacy, since the earnings accrued on your gift will help to support the school in perpetuity. Endowment income can help relieve pressure on the annual budgeting process, help attract and retain the best teachers and administrators, help sustain the economic diversity of our student body, and enrich our educational program. If you have any questions about making a planned gift to Devon Prep, please contact your financial advisor or you may contact the school. We are especially grateful to the following members of the Calasanctian Society, whose thoughtful generosity helps to insure Devon Prep’s future. If you have included Devon Prep in your will and your name is not listed below, please contact the Development Office so that we may honor your intentions. Mr. George R. Bruening ’62+ Mr. John A. ANNUAL REPORT OF GIFTS 2016-17
Collectively the 43 members of Devon’s 58th graduating class earned nearly $7 million in college scholarships. In addition they received more than 250 acceptances to nearly 120 colleges and universities, including University of Pennsylvania, Fordham, Wake Forest, Boston College, Lehigh, Villanova, Drexel, Temple and Penn State. More than 60% (27) of Devon Prep’s Class of 2017 are AP Scholars. Seven are AP Scholars with Distinction and one is a National AP Scholar. The National Merit Scholarship Program recognized two graduates as Commended Students. Four of these young men are Eagle Scouts, and two will go on to participate in collegiate athletics at Division III schools.
CLASS OF 2017
Devon Prep’s Class of 2017 includes AP Scholars, musicians, actors, artists, Eagle Scouts, athletes, and more. They live in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties and will attend colleges all over the US. Twelve of the graduates are members of Devon Prep’s Seven Year Club, having attended the school since the sixth grade.
In addition, this senior class performed over 1500 hours of community service doing such things as collecting and distributing food and clothing to needy families and raising more than $25,000 for St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital. According to Headmaster Rev. Francisco Aisa, “Devon Prep’s Class of 2017 is a superb group of young men who excel in so many wonderful areas in and out of the classroom. I know that they will be very successful in college and beyond. I will miss them and wish them well in the future.” DEVON PREPARATORY D E V O N P R E PSCHOOL A R A T
