Paul Recupero (Director) has had the pleasure of directing several productions for Devon Prep, from Phantom of the Opera in 2012 (which doesn’t seem so long ago) to Harvey this past fall. Mattress marks his 15th directing experience at Devon. He thanks the school for the opportunity and all the hardworking production team members and crew, who devoted numerous hours behind the scenes to make this musical a success. He also thanks the entire cast for their enthusiasm, devotion, and talent. Paul occasionally directs elsewhere, including productions of Children of Eden and The Drowsy Chaperone with The Dramateurs at the Barn Playhouse. By day, he is a partner at a civil litigation law firm in Abington and is affiliated with the Pennsylvania Young Lawyer’s Association and High School Mock Trial Competition. He is also a published writer. In his (limited) free time, Paul enjoys acting, writing, travel, and of course relaxing at home in Malvern with his amazing wife Brittany. “Thanks for supporting our show!” Emily Byrne (Musical Director) In addition to her performance credits, Ms. Byrne is comfortable instructing students in a variety of musical genres. As a teacher, Ms. Byrne is passionate about helping students find their own unique voice through an understanding of basic vocal technique. Her students’ interests have included a variety of musical genres from pop to opera. In addition to her thriving private studio, Ms. Byrne is on faculty at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pa. as a vocal instructor. This year, Ms. Byrne is thrilled to join the faculty of Devon Prep in Devon. Pa. In addition to teaching middle school music, Ms. Byrne is the conductor for Choral Tide as well as music director for the musical. Originally from the Philadelphia suburbs, Ms. Byrne holds a degree from The University of North Carolina- Greensboro in Vocal Performance.

Gail Oldfield (Choreographer) In positions as dancer, teacher, and choreographer, she has been able to take pleasure in numerous unforgettable experiences. A few of these include, performing with the Rockettes at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, meetings with Cary Grant and Walt Disney, and Dance Directorship at Cabrini College. Additionally, last season at ‘Forge Theatre’, she choreographed the highly successful production of the musical “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” and this season has just completed a successful run of the musical “The 1940’s Radio Hour”. A veteran choreographer, Gail has designed dance numbers for over 90 musical productions across Pennsylvania and New York including “And the World Goes Round” at Salt in Chester Springs. Having worked with five high school districts in this area, she has particularly enjoyed choreographing Devon Prep School’s musicals for over the past 21 years. According to critics, Gail has become synonymous with theater dance excellence. Thanks Devon!

Seamus Slattery (Minstrel) has been attending Devon since sixth grade, and he is so grateful and proud for this to be his 13th show here! Last seen as Elwood P. Dowd in Harvey, Seamus has had a long run with Devon Theater and has also been participating in shows beyond Devon’s walls. He could be seen on stage with Upper Darby Summer Stage, as well as the Upper Darby Shooting Stars. Thanks to my Mom and Dad for the endless support (and rides), as well as Paul, Gail, Ms. Byrne and Ms. Haroun for teaching me all I know over the last 7 years, to Siobhan, Deaglan, Matt and Asha! Love you all! Jamie Barker (Jester) has been a part of the Devon Prep Musicals since 6 th grade, during the performance of The Scarlett Pimpernel. He loves playing music as a hobby and a job. You may see him playing at Mike’s Seafood in Sea Isle City in the summertime. He has been playing the guitar since sixth grade and loves to play in a band as well as a solo act. Next year he will be headed to Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University to Major in Marketing. Thanks to his parents and his three brothers who have been a great inspiration. Lindsay Galarneau (Lady Mabelle) attends Notre Dame and has been doing the musicals at Devon since freshman year. This past year she was in Devon’s production of Harvey, and has been in other plays and musicals outside of Devon. Lindsay is very excited for her last show at Devon and has many people to thank. She would like to thank her parents for driving her to many rehearsals, Paul, Gail, Ms. Jenks, and Ms. Byrne for putting together an amazing show, and especially the cast for being some of her best friends. Rose McDonald (Princess Winnifred) is excited to be performing on Devon Prep’s stage one last time. Rose has participated in Devon theatre for the past three years and has loved every moment of it! You may have seen her as Veta Louise in Harvey or as the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Offstage, Rose is an editor for ND’s newspaper, a writing fellow, and cantors for ND’s liturgical choir. Shout out to her fellow dance captains and all the seniors! Big thanks to Paul, Gail, Ms. Byrne, and the rest of the cast and crew for an amazing show!

Siobhan Slattery (Princess #12): My twin brother Seamus influenced me to take part in a Devon show my junior year! I had so much fun and made many friends, causing me to join this year too! Unlike many of the other extremely talented seniors, I have little to no experience in theatre, yet I still have so much fun participating in these shows. I think that represents the community that Devon theatre provides! I look up to the talents of the other seniors and I will definitely miss the gateway trips next year + I thank Seamus for introducing me into this amazing program! Catherine Conroy (Queen Aggravain) is a senior at Villa Maria academy who has been doing the Devon shows for the past four years. In total, including dramas and musicals, she has acted in seven Devon shows. Outside of Devon she participates theatrically at Villa, most recently playing the lead Ms Savage in Villa Maria’s The Curious Savage. Catherine also has directed three original productions at her school. She has enjoyed her time her immensely and thanks all the friends she has made in this community for this experience along with her family and grandparents for never missing a show. Colman Egan (King Sextimus/Ensemble) will unfortunately be making his second and last performance on the Devon stage this year. A four year soccer and tennis athlete, he originally auditioned for the show last year in an attempt to meet some girls, but he fell in love with performing and was eager to come back this year. When Bucky isn’t goofing around with the theater program he can be found representing the school with soccer, tennis, ACT, mathletes, and the chess team. He would like to thank: Mama Byrne, Papa Haas, Noah Mathew, and Jamie Barker for their endless support and for being great people. Andrew Mcgee (King Sextimus/Ensemble) has been attending Devon Prep since 9th grade, and since then has been in the yearly Spring Musical. While not on the stage, Drew is involved with a variety of other activities around Devon. Whether you see him hitting a strike on the Bowling team, frantically finishing up deadlines for the yearbook, or preparing for Science Olympiad. Thanks to everyone who helped him along the way, including, but certainly not limited to, Paul, Gail, Ms. Byrne, the entire Devon faculty, his parents, sister Katie, and his dog, Buster. Alex Leicht (Sir Luce) has participated in every Devon show (The Crucible, Guys and Dolls, The Dining Room, Bye Bye Birdie, Almost Maine, Joseph, Harvey, and Once Upon A Mattress) since coming to Devon Prep freshman year. Alex credits Donna Radu for exposing him to the beauty that is Devon theatre. He would also like to thank all of his fellow cast members for making these past four years some of the best so far, and he wishes the program success in the future. Finally, Alex would like to thank his parents and his sister for supporting his theatre ambitions.

When I moved into a new high school as a junior, I found my new friend group within the theatre. It captivated my every motivation, leading me to pursue it in college and travel to NH, NY, and even Ireland with performances. Now back in high school, I can’t help but to be proud of what we do here at Devon. When the curtain opens tonight, every single set piece, light change, and microphone mute was created by our boys. In January, we came in ready to work. There were stained pants, ruined paintbrushes, and a lot of smiles and laughter along the way. As the program continues to transform every year, I hope to have the boys’ journeys grow with it as they learn the different aspects of construction, lighting, and sound. This was the hardest working group of boys I’ve worked with yet and I hope they are as proud as I am.
