Soccer

On Monday, the JV Tide were on the road and played a strong Episcopal Academy team in a non-league game. The Tide had two excellent chances in the first half but couldn't find the back of the Episcopal net. Tommy Sack ‘26 had a strong performance in net to keep the Tide close while Jason Kleiner ‘26 and George Butol-Teodorescu ‘28 applied lots of pressure after an own goal at the other end.

To round out the day on Monday, the Varsity team also played Episcopal Academy, and the final score did not represent their effort and play on the field. The Tide struggled to put the ball in the back of net in the 3-0. loss, but strong play was given by Ryan Samms ‘25, Braeden Fisher ‘26, Matt Pascale ‘25, and Drew Yusko ‘27.

On Thursday, the Tide were again on the road, this time at Malvern Prep. In years past, the Tide struggled against the Friars, but in the JV match up the Tide played all around great game. Even though the Tide lost 2-0, they applied plenty of pressure on the Friars with five chances on net in the 1st half, and continued to move the ball well throughout the game.

In the Varsity game, the Tide played extremely well and controlled majority of the game with lots of pressure and opportunities. While the Tide fell to the Friars 3-1., the score of this game didn’t reflect what played out on the field. The Friars were definitely on their heels and struggled to keep the Tide at bay. The Tide’s lone goal was provided off a beautiful free kick from Blake Hostetter, which came off the cross bar and was then put away by Nate Palermo. The Tide were led by a strong performances by Blake Hostetter, Nate Palermo, AJ Galietta ‘27, and all-around solid play from Joey Hamill ‘28.

Golf

On Tuesday, the JV Tide Golf team hosted a tri-meet with Holy Ghost Prep and La Salle at Linfield National. The Tide fell to Holy Ghost 223-284 and to La Salle 217-284. It was not the Tide’s best day, but the heat played a huge factor. The Tide plans to bounce back in their next match up!

On Wednesday, the Varsity Tide Golf team hosted a tri-meet against Roman Catholic and Nazareth Academy at Linfield National. On this day, it was the best example of why Coach Ball and Coach Duffy love coaching the Devon Prep golf team: everyone showed up with a great attitude about playing a match in the hot weather! The Tide came away with two wins, outscoring Roman Catholic 230-304 and Nazareth Academy 230-313. The team was led by John Curran ‘25 (33), Chris Pullano ‘26 (36), and Andrew Carroccio ‘27 (37).

Phil Martelli Visit!

On Monday evening the Athletic Department had the opportunity to host legendary basketball coach, Phil Martelli at their head coaches meeting. Coach Martelli was able to speak with all of the coaches about his career in coaching, and also focused on the importance of mental health in studentathletes. The Athletic Department appreciated Coach Martelli for coming to Devon to motivate our coaches as they head into the new school year!

Athlete of the Week

John Savage ‘26

Each week we acknowledge one of our student-athletes as ‘Athlete of the Week’. The athlete has either demonstrated extraordinary skill on the field or demonstrated our core values. This week our Athlete of the Week is John Savage. During the offseason John built a prayer garden on campus. This prayer garden is visible and available to all campus visitors and students. Located in front of the Calasanctius mansion, it displays a beautiful statue of the Holy Family surrounded by lovely plants and greenery. A pleasant walkway of stone and two benches adds to this garden's welcoming atmosphere. John is living out our core value of community.
