Soccer

On Tuesday afternoon, both the Varsity and JV soccer teams traveled to La Salle for another PCL showdown. The Tide already knew that their backs were against the wall, going against a well-experienced and solid La Salle lineup. The Explorers didn’t disappoint as they jumped all over the Tide. The Tide did their best to keep the ball moving and create their own opportunities, but the Varsity Tide fell to the Explorers 8-0 and the JV Tide fell 7-0. Both teams plan to use lessons learned from this game to prepare for their next game!

On Wednesday evening, the Middle School soccer team hosted St. Simon & Jude. In years past, the Tide had no issues taking down SSJ, but this year the Tide fell 3-0 to a very strong SSJ squad. We played well and had plenty of opportunities to get on the scoreboard, but struggled to put our shots away. Even though the outcome was not what the Tide wanted, there were plenty of positives to be taken from the game.

On Thursday afternoon, both the Varsity and JV teams hosted Archbishop Wood. The Varsity match was a hard fought game, and very evenly played. The Tide played extremely well, taking a 1-0 lead going into half thanks to a beautiful assist from Brendan Brady ‘28 to Drew Yusko ‘27! In the second half, the Vikings had a quick response, tying the game at 1-1. The rest of the second half was back and fourth, with the Tide having several chances to regain the lead. But the Vikings broke down the Tide defense in the last two minutes of regulation, scoring a late goal to secure a 2-1 victory. Braeden Fisher ’26 made several key saves throughout the game to keep the game close. In the JV match, the Tide played hard but struggled to bury any of the chances they generated. The game was evenly played, but the Vikings capitalized on their opportunities, handing the JV team a 2-0 loss.

On Saturday morning the Varsity Tide traveled to Cardinal O’Hara to take on Lansdale Catholic in this years PCL Play Day. The Tide and the Crusaders were in a back and fourth affair throughout the game. The Tide weren’t able to capitalize on any of their offensive opportunities, though, and fell to the Crusaders 1-0.

On Saturday morning, the Middle School team had an away game against St. Peter & Paul in West Chester. The Tide played very well on this warm morning, especially considering they only had one sub available for the game. The team came up short, losing 4-3, but both teams played well, and they showed a lot of heart while battling the entire game. Goals were scored by Pat O’Leary ‘30, Connor Monteleone ‘29, and Nat Barron ‘31!

Golf

On Monday, it was a beautiful day to be on the course, but the JV Tide suffered a tough loss to Radnor 286-253. The low score of the day was Tad Manion ‘28 with a round of 45. Tad started the day with a great drive on the first hole and played consistent golf for the rest of the round. Liam Ferrise ‘28 had great shot on 4th hole, sticking it on the green from 170 yards out. Desmond Mault ‘28 also had a great recovery from an errant drive on the 7th hole. The Tide plans to recover from this outing for their next match up.

Meanwhile, the Varsity Tide were on the road Monday, taking on Delco Christian School at Applebrook Country Club. The Tide came out ready to play and it showed on the course, taking down the Knights with a score of 213276. The Tide was led by John Curran ‘25 (38) and Andrew Carroccio ‘27 (40). The team planned to take the momentum from a great victory into their next match at Five Ponds against Archbishop Wood.

On Tuesday, the Varsity Tide was at it again as they traveled to Five Ponds Country Club to take on Archbishop Wood. The Tide made sure to rally off the previous day and carried momentum into this match, coming up with another league win by taking down the Vikings 234-269. The team was led by John Curran (36) , Chris Pullano ‘26 (37), Dan Dowling ‘27 (39), Andrew Carraccio (40), and Gappy Ciocca ‘25 (40).

On Thursday afternoon the Varsity Tide hosted Cardinal O’Hara in a PCL match up at Linfield. The Tide knew that this match was a big one in the league standings, but even with that pressure they came away with a 234-245 victory over the Lions. The team was led by Andrew Carroccio with an amazing score of 33. The Tide also had solid contributions from Danny Dowling (38), John Curran (39), Gavin Schraegle ‘28 (40), Jude McCann ‘26 (42), Chris Pullano (44), Pat Manion ‘26 (44), and Gappy Ciocca (45). This finishes up a solid week of golf for the Tide as they rest over the weekend and prepare for the week ahead!

Cross Country

The Tide competed in two Cross Country meets this week. On Wednesday they ran in their first PCL meet of the season at Belmont Plateau. The weather was sunny and hot, but the boys pushed through the heat and finished strong. Sam Kleiner '25, Charlie Krug '25, and Pierce Rohlfing '25 were the first three Tide runners to cross the finish line. On Saturday, the Tide traveled to Newtown, PA to compete in the George School Invitational. The boys ran well, with Sam Kleiner, Arie Van Turnhout '28, Manny Strid '28, AJ Adams '28, and Conor Whomsley '28 finishing with personal bests! This week will be another busy one with their 2nd PCL meet on Wednesday and the Whippet Invitational on Saturday in Downingtown.

On Sunday, the Middle School Cross Country runners braved the heat to compete in their first meet of the season at Bishop Shanahan High School! In their first-ever cross country races, Jack Bourdow ‘30 and Hayden Barbera ’29 fought hard and hung on to finish their race. Evan Martin ‘29 battled through his first 4K race. And Ryan Aufiero ‘30 and Hugo Derval ‘31 each turned in top 30 finishes in the 4K Cadet and 3K Minor races, respectively. The Tide will be back in action at Bishop Shanahan next Sunday at 1:00 pm for their second race!

Athlete of the Week

Sam Kleiner ‘25

This week's athlete of the week goes to Sam Kleiner. Sam comes to practice every day ready to work, and as one of the captains of the Cross Country Team he sets a great example to all of the younger runners. He helps Coach keep the team in check, motivated to work hard, and more importantly, support each other. This past Saturday the Tide competed in the George School Invitational and Sam ended up running an 18:16 5K, which is almost a minute faster than his personal best! We are looking forward to watching Sam build on his accomplishments this fall as a runner and also as a leader on the team! Roll Tide!
