Soccer

On Monday evening, the Tide MS team hosted their neighbors down the road, St. Aloysius. The Tide had their hands full immediately as St. Al’s scored early in the game. The Tide eventually settled in but struggled to create any big offensive opportunities to get onto the scoreboard. The St. Al’s squad had plenty of offensive skill and power where they took over the game and beat the Tide by the score of 4-0. Jackson Fisher ‘29 made several incredible saves throughout the entire game.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Varsity and JV Tide hosted the Archbishop Carroll Patriots in a big PCL match up that had huge playoff implications. From the first whistle, the Tide smothers the Patriots and created plenty of pressure that would continue throughout the entire game. The Tide played some of their best soccer of the season. The took an early lead, thanks to Drew Yusko ‘ 27 (3), who ended up having a hat-trick in the game. Jason Kleiner ‘26 and Blake Hostetter ‘27 also added a goal each to lift the Tide to a 5-1 victory over the Patriots. After the Varsity game, the JV squad was ready to take on the Patriots. Again, the Tide came out sorrowing by creating immediate pressure to the Patriots. This was some of the best soccer the JV team has produce this season. The team was lifted with goals by Jason Kleiner ‘26, Calan Gibson ‘28, and Prasad Nunez ‘28 to give the Tide a 3-1 win over the Patriots.

On Friday, both the JV and Varsity Tide soccer teams traveled to the City of Brotherly Love to take on St. Joe’s Prep. The JV team played in the late afternoon in Fairmont Park where the team played very well. The Tide found themselves down 2-0 but never gave up one another and was able to battle back to end the game in a 2-2 tie. Both goals were scored by George Butoi-Teodorescu ‘28. There was also stellar play by Dean Huey ‘28 and Kyle McDougall ‘28.

The Varsity played an evening game at Penn Park on University of Pennsylvania's campus under the lights to take on St. Joe’s Prep. The Tide battled throughout the entire game but had only a few offensive chances due to the solid play by the Hawks. The Tide played well but unfortunately couldn’t create any pressure and in the second half the Hawks were able to sneak a goal past the Tide to steal a 1-0 victory. Even though the result wasn’t what the Tide expected, the overall play of the game was positive step in the right direction!

Golf

On Tuesday, the Varsity Tide golf team traveled to Jeffersonville Golf Club for the 2024 PCL Championship, where they knew they had a chance to make a huge impact in the league. Overall, the Tide as team didn’t play their best round of the season but they still captured the 3rd place team trophy. Another big highlight of the day was due to the play of John Curran ‘25. Congrats to John for earning first place among the young men in regular season PCL scoring. John also placed 2nd overall in the tournament, coming up on stroke away from taking home the first place crown. The Tide will now start to prepare for Districts, which will take place on October 8th at Philmont Country Club.
