Soccer
On Tuesday afternoon, the Tide JV and Varsity soccer teams traveled to Delaware County to take on Cardinal O’Hara in a huge PCL match up. The game was pretty evenly matched throughout the game but the Tide was able to edge the Lions by capturing a 3-2 victory late in the game. The Tide’s goals were scored by Scott Cunningham ‘28, Brendan Brady ‘28, and Drew Yusko ‘27.
Next up, was the JV game. The Tide also took on the Lions in a PCL match up. The game was pretty even throughout the game and the Tide had a few chances but couldn’t capitalize on any of them. The final score was a tie at 0-0. The big story on the day was the performance of Tommy Sack ‘26 in goal and strong defending by Chase Chapman ‘27 and Finlay Manifold ‘26. Tommy was able to make a huge save by punching a shot over the crossbar and made an incredible one handed save to keep a clean sheet.
On Thursday afternoon, the MS Tide traveled to St. Elizabeth on a beautiful sunny fall evening. The game began with both teams being evenly match until St. Elizabeth was able to sneak on in the back of the net on the Tide. Throughout the game, the Tide continued to hustle and put together some chances but struggled to get on the scoreboard. The Tide fell to St. Elizabeth 3-0 and plan to get back in the win column on Saturday as they take on St. Philip & James.
On Friday, both the JV and Varsity Tide soccer teams hosted Father Judge in a PCL match up. The Tide played one of their best games of the season as they put plenty of passes together to create offensive pressure on the Crusaders. The Crusaders struck first taking an early lead but the Tide never stopped fighting. In the second half, the Tide was able to level the game making it 2-2 with plenty of time to put away another to take the lead. Unfortunately, the Tide fell short and lost 3-2. Goals were provided by Brendan Brady ‘28 and Drew Yusko ‘27.
Next up, the JV team played a very strong Father Judge squad and had an excellent effort trying to keep them off the scoreboard. Devon did put enough pressure to get an own goal but the loss of having our leading scorer George ButoiTeodorescu ‘28 out due to injury, impacted our attack. In the end the squad could not stop the persistent offense of Father Judge and the match ended with Devon losing 4-1. The Tide will be on the road as they travel to Roman Catholic for the season finale next week.
On Saturday morning, the MS Tide hosted St. Philip & James on a beautiful morning for soccer. The game was a back and fourth affair, where each team had plenty of chances to strike first. Unfortunately, the Tide struggled to put away any goals and came away with a 0-0 draw. Overall, the Tide played very well and was able to move the ball well throughout the field. The Tide look to strike back and take the positive energy into next weeks games!

Crew
On Sunday, our varsity and junior varsity rowers tcompeted in its first race, the Head of the Christina in Wilmington, DE. With most rowers racing twice, the 4400 meter race course was a good test of our fitness after a month of training. With a young team, the results were mixed but show some potential for the remainder of the fall season and the spring.
In the Youth 2X, we entered three boats. Jason Bushra '27 and Nishan Shamlian '25 had our best finish, coming in 7th of 13, and Brendan Cuff '27 and Sal Albert '27 followed at 9th and Teddy Marvin '27 and Matt Norton '25 in 10th place.
Devon Prep fared better in the quads. Finishing second in the varsity quad were Matt Norton '25, Jason Bushra '27, Chris DeMaio '27, and Nishan Shamlian '25. In the JV Quad, Teddy Marvin '27, Sherwin Dsouza '27, Cameron Sacunas '28, and Sal Albert '27 finished in third place out of 11.
Brendan Cuff '27 held his own in the Youth Single. Racing primarily upperclassmen, Brendan finished 9th out 13th, 10 seconds out of fifth.
Next week, the entire team will have the opportunity to compete at the Navy Day Regatta in Philadelphia.
Hockey
On both Friday and Sunday, the Tide hockey team played in their first scrimmages of the fall season. The Tide came up victorious in both games against Springfield Delco and Kennett HS.
The Tide looked great in each of the games and is excited for the upcoming winter season! Along with the Tide playing well, it was great to see ‘The Pit” back in action and they didn’t disappoint!
WCU vs. Millersville
On Wednesday afternoon, the Tide Varsity soccer team took a day off from practice to attend the West Chester University vs. Millersville University soccer game. The Tide got to experience a solid PSAC soccer match up between two great DII squads. On top of it all, the Tide also had the opportunity to watch Coach Green’s son, Kehmar Green who is a freshmen at Millersvillle. This was a great opportunity for the Tide to take a break from the field to hangout as a team and to see the difference of game speed between high school and college soccer.
Athlete of the Week
Ryan Aufiero ‘30
The Athlete of the Week is middle school cross country runner Ryan Aufiero. Ryan set a new personal record in the Cadet Boys 4K race at this week’s CYO meet, finishing 19th with a time of 16:53. Every practice and every race, Ryan brings a new level of determination and competitiveness, challenging himself and his teammates in the process. With two more meets before the CYO championship on October 26th, we look forward to witnessing Ryan’s continued development.
