Cross Country

This past Saturday, the Tide Varsity Cross Country Team participated in the PIAA State XC Championships in Hershey, PA! The Tide Varsity Team consisted of Sam Kleiner ‘25, Charlie Krug ’25, Pierce Rohlfing ‘25, Arie Van Turnhout ‘28, Manny Strid ’28, Andres Garcia ’28and Caleb Garecht ’27. It was a crisp, sunny day, and the competition was tough!! The Tide ran well on the challenging Hershey course; and it was a great way to cap off a fantastic season!

Crew

On Sunday, the Devon Prep Rowing Team finished their fall season at the Hidden River Chase on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. The theme for this season has been putting in work and gaining experience for the future; a team with 3 seniors, 10 sophomores, and 2 freshmen will struggle to compete against programs full of juniors and seniors.

Brendan Cuff '27 excelled in the single, finishing 10th of 20 in the varsity single. Every rower ahead of him was a junior or senior, and had he been eligible to race in the JV single, he would have won that event.

Teddy Marvin '27 and Sal Albert '27 also competed well in a varsity event, taking 12th out of 20 in the varsity double. Building on their success at the Head of the Schuylkill, they laid it all on the line and made the team proud.

The novice quad faced some steering issues and caught a crab during their race, slowing the boat down and resulting in a disappointing finish of 7th out of 8 in their event. Cameron Sacunas '28, Zaven Saveg '28, Levon Placido '27, and Darian Williams '27 looked solid on the course, and will have the spring season to iron out their technique and form.

Our JV quad, made up of three novices (Andrew Rockich '27, Drew Buzbee '27, David Vickers '27) and one sophomore rower (Sherwin Dsouza ‘27) punched above their weight, finishing 9th out of 12 in a field of shells composed of veteran oarsmen.

Finally, the Varsity quad (Jason Bushra '27, Chris DeMaio '25, Matt Norton '25, Nishan Shamlian '25) finished 12th out of 16, rowing a strong race and highlighting their gains from the fall season.

Winter conditioning begins Monday, November 11th, and is open to all interested in rowing, new or experienced, in order to prepare for the spring season.

Hockey

On Monday night, the Frozen Tide had their first game of the 2024-2025 season against Owen J. Roberts at Oaks Center Ice Rink. The stands were packed by both schools and ‘The Pit’ didn’t disappoint. It was hard to tell if it was a match up between both student sections or if it was against the Tide and Wildcats. All said and done, this game didn’t disappoint and was one for the ages. The game was a back and forth affair during the first two periods. The game really got fun in the third period. With the Tide losing 5-2, the Tide took advantage of power plays early on which helped them knot the game back up to 5-5. In the closing minutes, the Tide moved up the ice and took a 6-5 lead with a little time left. The Tide added another before the horn with an empty netter to give them a hard fought 7-5 victory. Kieran Crossan ‘25 recorded his first hat trick of the season!

On Friday night, the Frozen Tide took on Great Valley-Phoenixville at Oaks Center Ice Rink. This was routine game for the Tide as they made it look easy as they put away GVP fairly early. The Tide flew down the ice and made it look effortless as they won 10-0. The big contributors in this game was Kieran Crossan ‘25 with 4 goals and 3 assists, Logan Reaney ‘26 with 2 goals and 2 assists, and Braydon Russo ‘27 with 1 goal and 5 assists. As the Tide makes it look easy early on, they have some huge games coming up that will really put them to the test and see where they stand in the league!
