Originally designed by two future legends Jack Neville and William Watson — who individually went on to create Pebble Beach and Olympic Club. Diablo Country Club is the proud home to a pure golf course, still classic in many ways, and updated to incorporate fully modern enhancements.
a course unlike any other Diablo at first gently weaves players through scenic East Bay parkland, before opening into a vast natural area. Breathtaking views and vantage points abound, overseen by Mount Diablo. All 18 holes blend together as a unified approach that evokes both the links-style play of the Scottish coast and Northern California’s own unique environment.
THE NATION’S BEST COURSE RENOVATION…AND MORE
Our recent course update was awarded the national “2021 Renovation Of The Year” award from Golf Inc., capturing the top spot for private clubs in the magazine’s annual competition. An independent panel of industry experts highlighted the Club’s success in restoring the look and feel of the 100-plus-year-old golf course, while also increasing sustainability and surpassing the expectations of modern golfers.
This is just the start, however. Based on our impeccable restoration, Diablo’s golf course has been ranked #18 in the “Best Courses In California” list and one of the “50 Best In The West” by GOLF Magazine.

significant tennis tradition
As a Northern California tennis prodigy, Kristy Pigeon honed her game at Diablo Country Club before winning the Girls Singles title at Wimbledon in 1968. And the long list of California State Amateur Champions from Diablo is just the start of our impressive array of achievers.
Diablo now serves up both tennis and pickleball courts hosting league play, tournaments, mixers, and camps with USPTA instruction — offering a variety of programs for those just starting out to highly experienced club competitors. Recent enhancements to the Tennis Pavilion and Childcare Center feature even more Member-focused offerings.

Our pool facility is open year-round and is a popular gathering spot for recreational swimmers, fitnessfocused lap devotees, and families who enjoy our youth programs. Our competitive teams reflect the swimming program’s rich history, with the Diablo Sharks Swim Team often winning top prizes in Bay Area competition.

Club Members take part in recreational activities including an incredibly social and pleasantly competitive Bocce Ball culture, pickleball programs that highlight the racquet sport gaining popularity across the nation, along with year-round programs to make being active with family and friends truly fun and enjoyable.
A new state-of-the-art Fitness Center is found in the Clubhouse first floor, while across the lawn an enhanced Tennis Pavilion hosts an updated Tennis Pro Shop, both companions to a Childcare Center with outdoor play area. Permanent Bocce Ball courts blend sports and social engagement, while our showcase Pickleball Court highlights good times and friendly competition.

This commitment to fresh local food is only part of Diablo’s new culinary culture — our wine program emphasizes boutique and smallvolume producers with limited or exclusive distribution as part of DCC’s extensive and select inventory.

The historic Red Horse might just be the best “new” restaurant in the region where you haven’t dined…until now. The Terrace is ideal for postcard-worthy weekend brunches, while the new Mt. Diablo Pub is the place for post-round recovery and friendly toasting.
Outdoor activities are nourished at the Pool Snack Shack, where summer afternoon ice cream selections are all the rage with the younger swim set, while the Jack Neville Snack Shack tees up mid-round drinks and eats.

The Clubhouse’s breathtaking exterior is now complemented by inventive interior updates that create warmer environments throughout. This and many other enhancements benefit from years of thoughtful planning and careful renovation, retaining cherished Diablo traditions and features that have endured for more than a century.

Our Mount Diablo location was chosen by Robert Noble Burgess, an early San Francisco Bay Area leader, as a deliberate private sanctuary. Patrons arrived via rail to enjoy cool mountain breezes, time luxuriating by the lake, and all the other benefits of a relaxing, casually refined village-in-the-making. This was, and is, a casually refined escape from the noise and bustle of day-to-day life.
diablo’s distinctive history
Along the way to the 21st Century, Diablo served as the gathering place for California and American history. Presidents Ronald Reagan, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Herbert Hoover enjoyed time here, as did William Randolph Hearst, legendary entertainer Bing Crosby…and any number of golfing greats and PGA stars.
