It is an unusual month of April. Somehow it seems like the plants are still sleeping, I guess the only certainty in nature is that one day or another we will wake up and the flowers that yesterday were just buds have come to full bloom.

What is a teachable question?

It’s a purposefully designed question that helps kids THINK better. It’s a teacher.

It serves as a model for how we want kids to ask questions of themselves about any and all subjects.

When we ask lots of teachable questions daily, we help kids express themselves because they have to think and reflect on what we are asking them before they share!

IN THE MALL

Do we want all kids to read, write, think, and speak well?

“Why can’t we run in the mall?”

Now there’s a teachable question!

“What would happen if we didn’t pay for something at the store?”

When we practice asking good questions that help kids think and express themselves, we get better at creating them spontaneously, no matter where we are with kids.

Here are a few examples of teachable questions that you can try with your kids:

“What does EXIT mean?”

“What would you do if you saw a person choking on their food in the food court?”

“What should mall owners do with birds that fly into the mall? How will they get them out?”

“Do you think that monkeys get cold at night? What makes you think so?”

“What can you do to go faster on the slide?”

Growth is wonderful.

I see our ability to experience, learn and adapt as our crowning human trait.

Although it is incredibly useful, growth cannot become an excuse for living in the future and being mindless.

At its best, growth can bring us to an inspiring, life-giving situation. At its worst, our hunger for growth can depress us into a constant cycle of yearning and rushing without real productivity.

We must be attentive to ourselves during periods of change, and resist the tendency to oversimplify the processes of growth in our rush to have them completed.

Growth will never be completed: when this period of growth is over, there will be another and another.

Growth is life, and if we live outside of growth, we live outside of life.

Have you ever said, “I’ll start writing my book once I’ve honed my writing skilled a little more” or “I’ll look for a relationship once I’ve figured out this generosity thing”?

The fact is your growth will never be complete and as a result, the factors in your life will constantly be in flux and change. It is a waste of time to wait for perfection.

I was talking with a friend the other day who was stressed about her schoolwork.

I asked her if she was doing okay and she said, “I’ll be happy when I finish this chapter.” I thought: “Why not just be happy now?”

She knows that she wants to finish the chapter for the knowledge and relief of stress it will bring her, and she knows that she is able and on the path to finishing the chapter, yet she decides that she won’t be happy until she finishes.

This strikes me - as our flaws are often clearer in other people - as a shame.

While you are developing your life, remember that the less-developed times are beautiful, too.

Look to your adolescence for an example of this: during that period of change you probably wished to be older and wished for your teenage years to pass.

Now you can see that there was beauty and enjoyment in those times, and that you did not need to rush through them to grow into an adult.

The wonderful realization is that growth happens on its own. Thich Nhat Hanh has a beautiful meditation to switch the mind from a doing to a being state. He says: “I do not have to walk. The Buddha is walking. I do not have to breathe.

The Buddha is breathing.”

Another variation is “the walking is walking” or “the breathing is breathing,” the point being that we not force things to happen; they will unfold on their own.

Nirmala says, “Spiritual seekers are often so busy digging for some imagined buried treasure that they don’t notice the shovel they’re digging with (awareness) is covered with large diamonds and rubies.”

Sometimes urgent growth seems necessary and our very drive to have things or ourselves be different than they are pulls us away from our gratitude and our natural sense that what we have is enough (even if we feel that we have nothing, our very awareness is enough).

It is the same paradox that keeps meditators out of the wonder of the present moment by yearning for a different state of being or perceiving.

Our ability to be mindful while we grow indicates growth towards a positive change. It differentiates growth from uncomfortable yearning in which our unconscious habit-action drives us.

Habit-action as a path to growth is wholly dependent on the past and is therefore a slow and problematic way to growth.

Habit-action is what we do on autopilot. It is essentially a state created by mindlessness, marketing propaganda, societal hypnosis, and inherited family customs.

Fortunately, our children teach us to slow down and be aware in the best ways.

When they take their first steps, we are on the cusps of our (held) breath and entirely here and now.

Our children regularly do adorable things that make us grind time to a halt and fully enter this moment.

On the other hand, raising a child bears many different moments that aren’t all sweet and rosy.

Sometimes the house will be filled with arguments and disrespect and confusion.

That is still, perhaps more importantly, a time for awareness.

Take out your trusty jewel-encrusted shovel and hesitate before acting out of fear or worse, reacting.

When we dwell in awareness, we are the buffer between actions and reactions; we are a crack through which enlightened action can outshine habit-action.

As Leonard Cohen said, “There’s a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”

Take risks and seize opportunities - watch as they refract into countless other options that you didn’t see before.

As you walk your own path and guide your children along theirs, take off your shoes and feel the grains of dirt between your toes.

You may be further along your path one day, but for now you are here.

As parents, the physical and mental growth and development of our children is important.

Equally important, but often neglected, is our own personal growth and development. When we give ourselves the freedom to grow and change, we give our children the same.

Children learn best by example.

Here are some tips that will help you lead by example.

Read Even if it is 5 - 10 minutes a day, reading will make a big impact on you. You could even spend a few minutes reading a chapter of Proverbs.

Regardless of your spiritual beliefs, Proverbs shares wisdom that will accelerate you and your families growth.

Kid Tip: Children don’t have to read only children’s books. We are adults a lot longer than we are children.

It is never to early to start reading books by authors like Jim Rohn, Zig Ziglar, and Brian Tracy to your children.

Plus, you can count that time towards your own personal reading time.

Listen Listening is about more than what you listen to externally. It is also about listening to what is happening on the inside of you.

If you have more negative than uplifting thoughts, take time to consider what you hear throughout the day.

Consider what you hear from others around you, what you listen to on the radio, and the words you speak.

Watch TedTalks, documentaries, nature, and people watching provide great mental stimulation. Mental stimulation gives us the brain exercise we need to develop a stronger and healthier mind.

Kid Tip: Encourage your children to be observers. Actively observing allows us to see something in a way that we might not have looked at it before. Asks questions about what they see and encourage them to share their thoughts and feelings.

What comes out of you is a reflection of what goes in.

Kid Tip: Teach your children to take time to listen. It is one of the most useful and the most neglected skills.

Since children are a mirror it is vital that we make our own personal development a priority. The more you grow the stronger you and your family will become.

Brainstorming Parenting Create Your Vision Board Today

Do you want to have an adventure that relaxes and inspires at no cost?

The vision/dream board process is a visualization and brainstorming tool that manifests your desires and goals.

Visualization is one of the most powerful tools you have at your fingertips to create your dream life and manifest your goals.

It’s free and fires your brain cells (fire the brain to wire the brain) each time you see it.

This visioning process is one of my favorite tools for self-growth and transformation because it always takes me on an exciting adventure - a voyage to unknown territory - my subconscious and super conscious.

The vision board process guides us through our conscious thoughts and feelings to a deeper, less reactive level than when we come from our emotions of anxiety, anger, or fear.

We access our true desires and goals on a subconscious level. We can also bypass our negative thought patterns and outwit our negativity (cheat our dark, subconscious shadow) when we have the correct tools. Our shadow can be negative or positive. Sometimes, it loves to tease us and sabotage our dreams and goals.

Yes, you can vision without a vision board. However, research shows that brainstorming and hand-to-board action creates a more potent tool to manifest your vision.

Your imagination works best when it becomes active in the physical world, rather than only an idea.

The ancients and pre-historic Paleolithic people 30,000 years ago, made 3-dimensional vision and dream images on cave walls for sacred purposes. These “primitive” hunters and gatherers knew the ‘Secret’ to the book and video The Secret. They knew how to contact their subconscious to create their visions.

But, what is a Dream Board or a Vision Board anyway?

Simply put, a Vision Board is a visual representation of our desires.

It’s a map that helps us access, chart, and focus on ourgoals and understand our motives on a deeper, more instinctive level. It is a process and tool we can use to reframe our values and intents, our motivation and goals throughout the life process why we are at this particular place in our life history and what we have to share with our planet.

They were connected to the universe in a way modern man is just learning to understand.

This magical process is a fun adventure for any age, from a young child to a centenarian.

Modern scientists and psychologists, such as Freud and Jung, have taught us that the subconscious part of the brain is very different than the conscious brain - it doesn’t discriminate. It soaks up all of our experiences, which often emerge later in our conscious thoughts and patterns in the form of both positive and negative actions and reactions.

Everything on our planet is created by Mother Nature’s electromagnetic energy, as Einstein discovered in his theory of relativity.

When we flood our subconscious with attractive and positive images and feelings, we activate the visioning process and map the path to manifest our dreams and goals, just as primitive man did thousands of years ago. This intuitive, strategizing tool assists us to identify opportunities in a new light or create possibilities we hadn't seen before because they were submerged in our subconscious.

When we are educated by our parents, teachers, and society to fit in rather than stand out, our creativity and selfexpression got buried under a chaotic reactive patterns.

We fit into society and lose our essence.

Ok. All set! Now to the fun part!

Who knows who or what you will discover buried beneath the years of your past life! Here’s the tools you will need to excavate your treasures with joy and awareness: 1. Collect any and all images and words that call to you.

I collect images and words a few times a week from magazines, junk mail, photographs, greeting cards, stock photos and websites.

I put them in a medium-size, beautiful and unique box that I have decorated and use for this purpose only. I just clip and tear from magazines and junk mail as I read and imagine the images coming through in my dreams at night. Sometimes, I ask for old magazines from friends and at my doctor and dental appointments.

I lead vision board workshops and keep images for my vision board students that are appealing and of general interest to save for my clients.

No interesting and attractive words or images are ever wasted, because we are all unique and the symbols that appeal to us are both universal and unique.

Advertising artists who use collages and vision boards are commercial visualizers who brainstorm to create their product ads. Film directors and scriptwriters use storyboards to visualize their ideas and share with others at the brainstorming stage.

This visual brainstorming results in a powerful influence on our culture and self-image.

2. Do a vision board ritual alone.

Create your private personal workspace. It is essential that it be quiet. This is an important and valuable, fun adventure that works best when you take this private moment in time to produce your own magic and manifest your dreams and goals. You will manifest your essence with this magical process.

If you choose to create design your vision board without a vision board guide, arrange the optimal setting for the visioning process You are going on an exotic and unique voyage.

If you don’t want to focus on a specific topic, open your dream box or magazines and select the images and words that appeal to you.

Don’t analyze them - let the feelings flow. You will always choose the perfect images because your subconscious and super conscious knows how to spark what you need most at any moment.

3. Do a Family Dream board to put together common wishes.

All your family members must be present to do it together.

Don’t use a computer.

You can create dream boards and vision board on the computer, but your dreams may not manifest as well, because the electromagnetic energy that transfers your passion moves through your hands.

The computer technology can hinder the hands-on energy. Use your intuition and instinct, not technology for your creative process.

Play with your inner child - be curious and open to surprises. In your childlike, playful, curious, open state of being you may experience joy, surprise, fear, or anxiety as you choose your images and create your board.

Listen to your body, be open, and explore all your feelings and emotions.

Choose the words and images from your vision box that speak to you.

It's not about how good the board looks - the value of the dream board is in the focus during the time you took to collect the images that called to you.

The value is also about the trust you have that you will learn something thanks to your curiosity to access a place that is always an adventure to visit - your subconscious and superconscious mind.

The more you focus and select the perfect images that symbolize your passions and desires, the more you activate and grow your creativity and brain cells. Have FUN!

Where the Beliefs are Empowering The Growth is Flowering

The saying goes, “if you’re not growing, you are dying.” Life is about growth. One cannot remain stagnant for long. Even if you were to make an attempt, life has a way of forcing change eventually.

Children have no choice but to grow. I’m not talking physically - though as I celebrate my third child’s first birthday, I can attest they certainly do grow physically by leaps and bounds. Mentally and emotionally children amass growth on a daily basis.

From the very beginning, even in utero, they are learning. As babies they observe others faces for responses to their behavior. “If I cry, they look at me and come. If I smile, they smile. If I stand up in my high chair, mom looks at me sternly but my big brother laughs.

Hmmm, what to do there?”

As they get older they continue to watch and copy us, whether it’s pretending to talk on the phone or following dad mowing the lawn step for step with their own pretend lawn mower or slamming a door when they are mad because that’s what mom does. Or worse.

One of the myriad responsibilities we have as parents - you know besides all the feeding, clothing, and generally keeping alive and safe we have to do - is instilling empowering beliefs for them to carry with them throughout their lives. There is perhaps no greater notion that will affect their mental and emotional growth throughout their lives than their beliefs.

What are some life beliefs you would want your children to live with? Are those the beliefs they are observing in you? We typically have very different actions and words if we believe “people are loving and kind” versus “people are untrustworthy.”

One feels better just to write.

There are many beliefs that can serve our children throughout their education years and beyond. Beliefs like “anything is possible, if only you put your mind to it” can serve our children well. I imagine great inventors and people searching for cures carry that belief within them.

There also are many beliefs that can be detrimental to our children as they grow into adults.

Take this one as an example, “money is the root of all evil.” Do you think your children could be financially successful if this is one of their core beliefs? From my personal observations of people who hold this belief, it is highly unlikely.

There are times when seemingly good beliefs can actually hold one back. Take for instance, a belief I grew up with, “hard work pays off.”

I took on that belief and have a great work ethic because of it. Great, right? Well, yes and what if it doesn’t have too? I began to see other people not working so hard and still getting the pay off.

It made me question my belief and all the hard work I was putting in.

Is it possible that because of that belief I made things harder than they had to be because I had to “work hard” to get the pay off?

I ask you again what are some life beliefs you would want your children to live with? Now look at your life. What are some of your core beliefs?

Do they match? In other words are you living, acting and saying the same beliefs you want your child to live with for their entire lives?

Take for instance a belief I held until just a few years back until I decided to grow some more and learn new more empowering beliefs for myself. I used to believe that my happiness or how I felt was dependent on what others did to or for me. I couldn’t feel loved unless so and so did such and such.

Because your children are observing and as I’ve found being a parent, they often observe better than they listen.

When I changed that to I am loved and I can feel love whenever I shared my love with another or with nature or just appreciate the love I observe around me.

Now while that’s a great method to start, unfortunately making sure our children grow with empowering beliefs is not that easy.

I began to have very different experiences in my life. I am appreciative that I learned how to change my beliefs and rules about my beliefs so that I can teach my children a happier and more effective way to live.

They do have minds and imaginations of their own.

I often hear parents say they want their children to have better lives then they had. That can mean many things: more financial success, more loving marriage, more happiness, etc.

In any case to have a better life your children may need better core beliefs.

So I’m going to ask you a tough question.

When it comes to instilling core beliefs are you a “do as I say, not as I do” kind of parent?

What does that mean?

That means you need to start building the empowering core beliefs within yourself if you want your children to have them too.

And they do have other people in their lives. The best we can do on that front is communicate with our children.

We need to find out what is going on with them, find out what they believe about it and ask questions that can lead to better beliefs if they first picked disempowering ones.

We need to offer a different perspective that can lead to more empowering alternatives.

This way as they grow their core beliefs will empower them to lead the wonderful lives we all wish them to have.

And what could be more a satisfying feeling of a job well-done than happy, fulfilled grown up children?

The Power within You! Energy Responds to Your Desires

Have you ever seen an electrical storm?

It is very powerful, intense, and a sight to see. Coming from a space of knowing that all the "stuff" in life is energy take a deep look into this picture.

Look at the orange for our creativity, the purple for our higher consciousness, the deep red representing our Conscious Power with, the pink hue mingled in shows the deep love Mother Earth has for us. The white reminds you of our Guardian Angels, and the dark clouds in the sky reflecting down on the earth in its fullness reminds you that Life can only be a reflection of what is within.

Now, if the Creator of the universe is able to create such beauty, with the reminder that we are never alone, What do you think the Creator can create in your life?

Anything you chose!

Yes, anything you choose consciously, and how it manifests, or comes to be is completely up to YOU by the energy that you attach to that request, idea, thought, whatever it is. Example: If your doing your best to create a relationship with a significant other and underneath you

truly feel that relationships are a waste of time and no good, then that is the energy the universe will respond too because that is your truth!

I know for me, I have had to take a deep look at my life and my requests, I am saying I desire this and yet in Truth over here I am complaining, asking the whys and how comes, being impatient, not really believing that what I am asking for will manifest, and guess what truly manifests... You got it... the feelings that I am most attached to, which is of a lower vibration and it is the vibration that you have the opportunity to raise up anytime you choose.

You can change in a twinkling of an eye, You can change the entire vibration of whatever you may be asking for.

Example: with Awareness comes a change in the entire direction of the Universe so instead of sugar coating something, identify the root of the thought and change that, and from that point on the Universe can only respond to that Truth.

For me, now that I became aware of my true feelings I have worked with those feelings which came from Fear. That's right, Fear that what I am asking for will not manifest, and that is what I change by reminding myself that everything I desire is already here now and I can be a Conscious Co-Creator with this magnificent Universe!

Like this beautiful picture of an electrical storm, Mother Nature can only respond to that what it is given which is why the earth is reflecting the Sky, knowing that Truth can only be the same way.

This means your life can and will only reflect what it is that you carry within yourself whether conscious of it or not.

So, if your life is not giving you what your requesting, or desiring remind yourself that the universe is no-thing except your Consciousness reflecting back to you.

I suggest you look again at your requests, and choose to do some honest Soul searching and identify with the energy you have may have attached to whatever it is you are asking for.

This Electrical storm is beautiful.

It reminds us all of the power of this Universe and the power that, if we are Conscious of, we will remember we carry within ourselves and that this power is what the Universe can, does, and always in all-ways will respond too which is The Power within You!
