Ullate Víctor

I met Sofia and Enrique many years ago, at the Roman Theater in Verona, and since then we were united by a deep and sincere friendship.

Throughout all these years we have shared very special moments. They always came to my shows and I have enjoyed the work of Sofia and their friendship. Sofia's paintings always touched my heart. She was a great artist, unique and independent, and left no one indifferent.

She also was a vindictive woman and a fighter, who understood the value of art in all its manifestations and stood for it and defended it in an independent and courageous way. I always felt valued and protected with her.

I feel very honored that Sofía included my portrait in this series, in which she painted important figures of art and culture, including my great master Maurice Béjart.

Coincidences of life, Béjart used to tell me that he wanted to craft a ballet about El Greco with me, a creation that never took place, and now I am portrayed as El Greco in this iconic work. I must have something of the artis, maybe my sharp features and thinness...

Conocí a Sofía y Enrique hace ya muchos años, en el Teatro Romano de Verona, y desde entonces nos ha unido una profunda y sincera amistad.

A lo largo del tiempo hemos compartido momentos muy especiales. Siempre han acudido a mis espectáculos y yo he disfrutado de la obra de Sofía y de la amistad de ambos. Las pinturas de Sofía siempre me llegaron al corazón, era una gran artista, única e independiente, que no dejaba indiferente a nadie.

Era, además, una mujer reivindicativa y luchadora, que entendía el valor del arte en todas sus manifestaciones y, de forma independiente y valiente, lo defendía y ponía en valor. Siempre me sentí valorado y protegido con ella.

Me siento muy honrado de que Sofía incluyese mi retrato dentro de esta serie, en la que retrató a personajes tan importantes del arte y al cultura, incluyendo a mi gran maestro Maurice Béjart.

Casualidades de la vida, Béjart solía decirme que quería crear un ballet conmigo sobre el Greco, creación que nunca se llevó a cabo, y ahora me veo retratado como el Greco en esta obra icónica, algo tendré, será por mis rasgos afilados y mi delgadez…

Víctor Ullate is a Spanish dancer, choreographer and spectacle director. He is the recipient of the National Dance Prize of Spain, and of the Spanish Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts, among others.

Víctor Ullate es un bailarín, coreógrafo y director de espectáculos de danza español. Recibió el Premio Nacional de Danza de España y Medalla de Oro al mérito en las Bellas Artes, entre otros.
