> Carbon Footprint The bachelor final shoes project of Fontys student Vane shows that de carbon footprint of a Nimco OSA is equal to that ready-made shoes.

> Cindy Cendryllon - Testemonial

With his research ‘What is the carbon footprint of the manufacturing and the distribuon of orthopaedic shoes? For his final project of his Bachelor study at the Fontys Hogeschool Rogier Vane proved that the carbon footprint of the manufacturing and distribuon of OSA shoes of Nimco and ready-made shoes is equal. That is good news. Beer news is that Nimco connues to search for ways to decrease the carbon footprint of their shoes.

A few weeks ago NM4Y received a first Christmas present. Cindy Cendryllon visited our facebook page and le this image of the fully custom made model ‘Star’ from our collecon for girls. With this photo she wrote this most complimentary comment: “Thank you for your amazing work, I was really pleased.”

Unl now there no one has ever done research about the carbon footprint of the manufacturing and distribuon of orthopaedic shoes. As you well know Nimco cares about the environment and is therefore highly interested in the footprint of the manufacturing and distribuon of OSA. COO Olav Toornend asked the Fontys Hogeschool to do research about this issue. Because of the increasing cases of welfare diseases and more and more people reach a high age the demand of OSA is sll growing. Above that many consumers are increasingly interested in the carbon footprint they leave behind. Nimco and Fontys student Rogier Vane met and started working together. This September Vane finished his research of the carbon footprint of a pair of orthopaedic manufactured and distributed shoes by Nimco. Vane obtained informaon from literature search, data from Nimco and calculaons from producon and research of shoes made by Nimco..

Cindy is the mother of three boys and a lile girl. She was very commied on geng her lile princess beauful shoes. She went to her orthopaedic shoe store, Cap Le Mans, in France, and the team suggested to look at the Nimco collecon for girls because of the wide range of choices in colour and models. Cindy was pleased and pleasantly surprised this was her first reacon when she saw the girls collecon of Nimco: “Lots of different models, custom made, great quality. It is all customized: the leathers, laces, soles, welts, decoraons, etc.“ Cindy’s testemonial is very important to us. It proves that our works changes lives. It inspires us to approve our collecon and to develop new models.

Research Especially the CO2 emission of distribuon the OSA seems a typical problem of a company that manufactures outside the Netherlands for many Dutch companies. Aer all the lasts are being sent to Portugal and the shoes must be sent back to the Netherlands. This is one of the reasons why Nimco chooses to work with mainly local manufactures. Companies which produce in the Netherlands must obtain their products from abroad. To get a beer picture from the total CO2 emission of the manufacturing and distribuon of a pair of OSA it is necessary that research must also be done at in the Netherlands manufacturing companies. This would create a gigant awareness in the line of OSA producing companies about its carbon footprint.

Ready-made shoes Vane made the calculaons of the total carbon footprint of a OSA by Nimco with the manual PAS 2050. The data of the producon parts, distribuon of materials, lasts, supplements and the manufacturing and distribuon of the orthopaedic shoes from literature search were completed with informaon of the Econinvent database 2.2. and data

So that you keep your interest up, we show you some shoes with a surprise. These new models will be available next year as they are part of the new collecon!

from Nimco. From this Vane concluded that the carbon footprint of the manufacturing and distribuon of a pair of OSA made by Nimco and a pair of ready-made shoes was equal. The manufacturing of materials and the distribuon of OSA are the biggest part of the total carbon footprint. .
