The goal of this project is to make orthopaedic shoes look more modern for the sole is an important part of the shoe’s final look. With 3D prinng it will be possible for soles of orthopaedic shoes to have the design details that fashionable shoes have.

Although it is a hard task, mainly due to the difficulty in finding a suitable material which is flexible enough, Nimco has not given up. Last year, for example, Nimco has worked together with SLEM. From that partnership arose the project ’Shoe of the future’. Early this year Nimco has printed its first 3D sole and has assembled it to a shoe. Although it is just a prototype, that is sll having to go through some tests and adjustments processes, we believe this is another important step in the process to produce 3D-printed soles.

We are Nimco!

The new Mission, Vision and Values

^

Mission

The concern about the employees’ quality of life is a major part of Nimco’s philosophy. That is why we have rewrien our Mission, Vision and Values and launched the project WE ARE. The Project WE ARE is an internal brand created by Nimco for the health and wellbeing of all employees. This brand is branched in 6 intervenon areas: respect for people; communicaon; mutual trust; care for quality of life; sustainability; and investment on people. Each of these areas results from each of our 6 values.

Respect for the people

Sustainability of our activities

In order to reduce the amount of injuries one recommends exercise before starng the daily tasks. Aware of that need and the benefits thereof, the employees of Nimco have started the work day with a workplace exercise for two years now. Therapist Inês Rodrigues visits Nimco every two weeks.

How important is it to pracce morning exercise?

Values

“It is pour mission to be partners, first with our Team and then with the orthopaedic shoe professionals to make the most innovave, eco-friendly and affordable orthopaedic footwear soluons. By doing so, we respect ourselves, our partners and the environment.”

Working at Nimco requires repeated movements throughout the work day. Those constant repeons could generate pain and muscle discomfort.

“We want to be the leading company in innovave, eco-friendly orthopaedic footwear, in strict respect for the future generaons.”

Workplace exercise fits into the care for quality of life, along with acvies to promote a healthy diet so we have introduced a fruit day. On this day fruit from local producers is served to employees. Within the promoon of a healthy lifestyle, Nimco is currently developing a partnership with a local gym.

We wear the Nimco values with pride!

“This morning exercise aims to improve the health of employees and reduce injuries caused by repeated movements and workplace postures. These exercises are intended to posture re-education, stress relieve, increasing social integration among employees, improvement of work performance, prevention of injuries and diseases by cumulative traumas such as injuries by repeated effort and some musculoskeletal disturbances.” How have the employees evolved since? “In Nimco’s particular case, the most common injuries are injuries of the elbow, bicep, flexors in the wrist and fingers, carpal and finger extensors, musculus supraspinatus and ‘De Quervain’ tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, muscle shortenings, scoliosis, hyper lordosis and neck strain. Because morning exercise was implemented almost at the same time as weekly therapy, I can’t say that one had more results than the other. Nonetheless, in the last two years and four months we can observe that the absenteeism was reduced, as well as the gravity of injuries and how long they endure. This morning exercise is essential to improve the organizational environment and the adaptation to the workplace, to reduce absenteeism and painful complaints and specially to improve the employees’ physical condition.”

Fontys’ Visit:

always a pleasure to meet new passionate students Last January Nimco welcomed Fontys’ students one more me. This year the visit and workshop were aended by eight students and four teachers. For the three days they spent at the factory students were geng acquainted with the producon process of orthopaedic shoes, from modelling to finishing.

Along with a more praccal approach, the students also aended a presentaon about Nimco’s history in the last 114 years given by Olav Toornend At the end there was also room for a debate about the future of orthopaedic footwear and Nimco’s plans to keep leading the market. Nimco thanks Fontys for vising and is looking forward to the next group of students passionate about footwear producon that will visit the company next year.
