Create The Image Local residents might not recognise the new look salon at 89 Great Western Highway, just next to Jimmy’s Steak House. A recent change in ownership and a salon upgrade means Create The Image can now add new services and new staff. You will still find Jade and Sue in Hair Dressing, Karlie in Nails and Beauty, Donna in Laser Hair Removal and Zoe who help out on Saturdays. The flash new salon (complete with cappuccino machine) looks amazing thanks to Darren from Westside Carpentry & Maintenance based in Emu Plains. The services now include Hair Dressing, Acrylic Nails, Spray Tanning (with the magic of Naked Tan 2 hour tan), Laser Hair Removal, Microdermabrasion, Microhydrabrasion (Don’t know what it is? Come in and find out!) and Massage, Facials Waxing and Make-up all under one roof. The team at Create The Image will happily design a package for weddings, school formals or other special occasions. Whether you’re an old client who has not been in for a while, or you’re really keen to see what the salon has to offer now, the team would love to meet you to discuss what they can offer you.

Gnome Rescue The Lower Blue Gnome Rescue team recently raced to the rescue of 1000 gnomes, imprisoned in a garden in Cootamundra and under sentence of a one way trip to the local tip! Once owned and loved, the gnomes were now ‘carer-less’ and desperate for new homes. As luck would have it for these poor gnomes, Ray Luff, the solicitor dealing with the deceased estate had heard of the Gnome Convention in the Blue Mountains- and so, via www. AustralianGnomeconvention.com.au website, contacted David Cook, Lower Blue gnome-master to ask if they could mount a rescue. Could they? They could. In 24 hours plans were made and suitably attired in the new ‘Gnome Rescue’ uniform of white jumpsuits labeled ‘Gnome Rescue Team’ and red Gnome hats, Trevor Lloyd, David Cook (pictured below), John Dawson, and Karalyn Brown, took off at dawn on the long long road to Cootamundra. There, aided by Cootamundrian Rotarians, the gnomes were loaded into Utes, trailers, cardboard boxes and the back of 4WDs. (Except four who found homes with the children across the road). Gnome-master David already maintains an ‘ome for lost gnomes’ where other orphans are cared for. To find out more, visit www.AustralianGnomeconvention.com.au and http://rotarnet. com.au/lowerbluemountains.

Glenbrook Markets

Are you interested in finding an old fashioned village markets with lots of handcraft, hobbies and food stalls and without having to travel far from home? The Glenbrook Rotary Markets were founded 5 years ago by the Rotary Club of Lower Blue Mountains, and have 80 to 90 stallholders each month. They present a very colourful picture

as the brightly decorated market stalls, bursting with goods for sale are scattered throughout the playground and garden areas of Glenbrook Infants School. Some of the goods on offer include fresh fruit and vegetables direct from growers in Nashdale in central NSW, freshly baked home made cakes and cookies, hot cappuccinos brewed on the spot, jams, honey, candy and nuts, chocolate, fudge, mini pancakes, lollies, a whole stall making Turkish Gozleme to your order. And in recent months, we have had regular supplies of fresh fish direct from the Sydney Fish markets. But it’s not only foodstuffs to entice you. Children’s toys, party packs and books, handmade clothing for youngsters and their mums, designer handbags, tapestry and fabric goods, linens and quilts, hand knitted woolen jumpers, picture frames, handmade lamps, heat packs, furniture and a wide variety of designer jewelery all add to the variety. Enquiries from potential stallholders are always welcome and can be made to Markets Co-ordinator, Ken Linfoot at 0419 725302. Anyone interested in Rotary are also welcome to call. The Rotary Club of Lower Blue Mountains, meets at the Emu Plains S p o r t s Club each Tuesday evening. You can also “Adopt a Gnome” at the market – the Cootamundra gnomes will be on display and hoping for new owners!

Good Sports At Emu Primary children at Emu Plains Public School were running, jumping and throwing to their heart’s content at their annual athletics carnival held on Tuesday 18th August. On a beautiful, warm, sunny win-

in the various track and field activities. The level of support and encouragement was fantastic, not just from the children, but the parents and family members as well. Congratulations to Mitchell House which won the day in a close points countback, but it was clear that everyone had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of representing their team and friends. The participants, supporters and organizers are to be congratulated on another fine Emu Plains sporting event.

Canberra for the 8th Piano Pedagogy Conference and at Sydney Conservatorium of Music for the Winter Piano Teachers’ Festival. Kinship care

Vivo Creations Suzanne Cooper, pianist and teacher, has for many years been actively engaged in developing young people’s potential and expanding the appreciation of classical piano music within her community. Her wide experience as a classroom and studio teacher, as well as a performer, has provided her with unique insights into the music and an ability to connect her listeners to the emotional and creative qualities of the music. Her business, Vivo Creations is underpinned by a motivational and inspirational message. In May 2009, Suzanne was invited to the World Piano Conference in Serbia, For her presentation, Suzanne performed several great works from the classical piano canon and demonstrated her teaching and interpretative techniques. Families come in all shapes and sizes today. One that is growing faster than many others is the kinship care family. This is a family where the children are cared for by relatives because the parents are unable to care for their children. More children are in kinship care than foster care in NSW. Often the carers are grandparents. Others may be uncles, aunts, siblings or more distant relatives. More than 30 people from kinship care families across the Penrith, Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains areas recently met for a combined family barbecue. The carers had a chance to share experiences and relax while the children played, painted, made craft and ate their way through a mountain of food including one boy’s 12th birthday cake. The family barbecue was organised by the Kinship Care Regional Project which provides resources, information and support for carers plus activities for children to give carers a break. The Kinship Care Regional Project is at Springwood Neighbourhood Centre. Phone 4751 3033.
