School Land Sales
Pollies at School
Member for Mulgoa, Diane Beamer MP said a Daily Telegraph story relating to the Glenmore Park school land sell off was misleading. “The facts surrounding the sale of land at Glenmore Park were that the 7430 square metres of land sold at auction for $1.1 million in February 2009 was declared surplus to requirements in 1994 by the then Coalition Government Education Minister Virginia Chadwick,” said Ms Beamer. “The Land was not part of the school grounds and it had been approved for sale 15 years ago with the money from the sale being allocated for use by the Department on other infrastructure.” Minister for Education and Training Verity Firth said Government policy is that the Department only sells land where it is deemed it is not needed for educational use; and no school land can be sold without extensive community consultation.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education Julia Gillard and Federal Member for Lindsay, David Bradbury, met with local school principals at Glenmore Park Public School recently to discuss the roll-out of the Building the Education Revolution program in the local community. Glenmore Park Public School is receiving $3 million for new classroom facilities.
