The difference Jesus makes...
1440
On the weekend of 15-17 July, more than 60 plus High School students and their leaders from our Church headed off to the Anglican Church Campsite at Deer Park on beautiful Port Hacking. Why go to so much trouble to plan and organise such a weekend? Craig Hamilton, the Minister at our Church responsible for Youth, told me how he was really keen for the students to see that “the Bible is not irrelevant to their life.”

The group enjoying the Weekend Away
The theme of the weekend was “A whole new normal” and Craig, with the leadership team from our Church, in the talks and discussion groups over the weekend, had the aim of helping the students see that “the Christian life is best life.” While so many people tend to think that God is anti fun, the Bible reveals that God is not keeping good, fun things from us, but in fact he wants to help us get the very best from life! Craig’s big hope is that not only will this wonderful truth transform the life of the students, but also that the students will return from camp to “live well in their community and impact their community for good!” The annual Youth Camp is just a taste of the regular Youth events held at Glenmore Park Anglican Church. On Friday Nights there is “Velocity” which is divided into “Pulse” at 6pm for Years 7-8 at School and then “Ham” (Years 9-10) and “Lounge” (Years 11-12) at 8pm. Also throughout the week there are various small groups meeting in people’s homes which give students the opportunity to ask questions and to explore more deeply what the Bible has to say about life. Are you in High School? Do you know a High School Student? Why not take the plunge – you’ll be surprised to discover that getting to know Jesus really does a make a difference in your life! If you’d like to know more give me a call on 4733 1635 or check out the brand new “Velocity” website www.gpacvelocity.com.au Rev John Lavender Glenmore Park Anglican Church Cnr William Howell Dr & Pritchard Pl Ph 4733 1635 www.glenmorepark.anglican.asn.au Sundays @ 8.30 & 10.15am, 5 & 7pm plus activities for adults & young people right throughout the week www.glenmoregazette.com.au

We are what we eat….. and absorb….. and eliminate By Michelle Beech, Naturopath It is really common for patients to complain to me about their gut symptoms. Patients often complain of a variety of symptoms such as reflux, heartburn, bloating, colicky wind pain, candida and either constipation or diarrhea, or a combo of the both – in severe cases the patient may suffer gastritis or diverticulitis and allergies, ranging from mild to severe. Most of the time they have been diagnosed by their doctor with Irritable Bowel Syndrome which is a generalized term meaning idiopathic gut problems. Many of these patients have felt so bad, they have been compelled to take anti-reflux medications, antacids, painkillers, laxatives, anti-histamines, and possibly antibiotics to get some relief. Not only does this inform me that they have poor gut function, but the whole problem is profoundly impacted by the medications that suppress the acid reflux they are experiencing. Also anti-inflammatory meds, painkillers or the use of antibiotics can often kill off healthy gut flora as well as the ‘baddies in the gut’ they were meant to target. So in cases like this, what else
can a sufferer do to get relief? There is much that can be done. Often with good case-taking and the use of a fabulous clinical tool – iridology – I can determine that the patient has low digestive enzymes and a possible leaky gut. This problem is often exacerbated if I suspect they also have unfriendly bacteria residing in their guts. If we suppress our hydrochloric acid with anti-reflux and anti-inflammatory meds, we kill off our gut’s ability to properly digest food. This is compounded by poor dietary choices. In the worst-case scenario, this could lead to peptic ulceration or even worse. Antibiotics use can lead to poor nutrient absorption and elimination, and lead to symptoms of candida or thrush and/or diarrhea and mouth ulcers. “Dead processed foods” and inefficient metabolism of nutrients can also result in irondeficiency and fatigue. This does not need to be the case! Our digestive tract can be compared to a garden, with a synergistic arrangement of healthy gut flora which ideally helps us to digest and absorb our food. This gut flora also helps us to extract the nutrients the body requires for assimilation, and the subsequent elimination of waste products. Your garden may need some serious tending as it may be over-run with weeds. If you are suffering any of these
symptoms, I sympathise with you. It can make your life miserable. But take heart, as a Naturopath I specialise in dealing with the many and varied aspects of poor gut health. With the right herbs, nutrients and appropriate dietary interventions, your gut health can be restored and your overall wellbeing greatly improved. I would love to be able to assist you to feel better. My clinic is located at Penrith Osteopathy, 30 The Crescent, Penrith. You can call 4721 0101 to make an appointment.

Kev’s Korner In the not too distant future, YouTube, Twitter & FaceBook will merge to form one giant, idiotic, super, time-wasting website called ...
It seems everyone is on the social networking sites telling everything they are doing to everyone who cares to read. Some are pretty mundane and boring things like: “I’m having a café latte at Gloria Jeans” or boasting that they are out of the house “at such-and-such a restaurant with my man”. I try to write witty things that might bring a smile to the faces of my 518 “friends” while at the same time trying to have something that others might be prompted to “Like”. But some are attempting to use this media to make political statements, advertise their products or just plain meet new people. Either way, this invention is a means which can be used for good. On the other hand, some have sought
to use it for evil: to offend, defame or defile or straight out hurt the fragile stability of others. These are the ones who give anything a bad name. As soon as I mention to people that I am on Facebook many frown, either because they are avoiding this apparent internet evil because of misconception or ignorance. But I am convinced it is a good way of staying connected and spreading a positive message. Jesus said, “The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.” (Luke 6:45) Jesus used the effective methods of communication in His time to convey timeless wisdom. He taught: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. These thoughts should influence all our actions. Standing on mountain tops or from the shores of a lake He would tell the crowds gathering around Him of the secret Kingdom awaiting those who bothered to try to get there. He used parables and metaphors to make people seek out the truth. Jesus’ words are messages of hope and give peace and consolation and maybe they need a new
medium to cut through the negativity in the world. Each day I get copious amounts of spammed information about things I don’t need. But I rarely get a spammed message about anything good. Maybe you can use the internet to spread messages of love, peace and hope to counteract the evil intents of spammers and hackers. Come along and hear positive messages of hope every day at Padre Pio Parish! Blessings on your month!

Zumba Fitness with Shereen My name is Shereen Oliver and I am a Glenmore Park resident and a Zumba Instructor celebrating a year of Zumba Fitness in Western Sydney! Each week I get lots of Glenmore Park residents dancing, sweating, laughing and living longer! Regular exercise has so many benefits...it will reduce blood pressure, reduce the chances of diabetes, heart attack, stroke, benefit your immune system and leave you feeling wonderful and on a natural high. I’ve also had some great weight loss results from my regular Zumberers - anything from 2 – 20kgs have been lost....all whilst smiling!! It’s exercise in disguise!!!! Work up a Zumba sweat with me on a regular basis and you’ll not only build strong bones, a healthy heart and toned muscles but you’ll also experience a huge mood boost. The best mood-elevating effects come from starting and sticking with a regular exercise program. I’m a Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer registered with Fitness Australia and I also have 3 children so I know how hard it can be to make time for yourself. Most of us hold down a job, have a household to run and family to bring up which leaves very little time for ourselves. However, it must be done for your health and your soul! Taking positive time out for yourself makes you more tolerant, healthier, happier, a better parent, a better employee, a better boss and better in your relationships! Come along and join in the fun of Zumba with me every Wednesday 7:30pm at Glenmore Park Public School.

Follow the link below and make a donation under Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital. http://www.fundraise.rspcacupcakeday.com.au/orchard_hills__ veterinary_hospital
The RSPCA is the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a non-profit, community based charity that works to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection. The RSPCA is not an agency of the Australian Government and therefore relies on the generosity of the community – through animal adoptions, volunteering, event participation, donations, fundraising, corporate partnerships, corporate support, bequests and grants – to support its vital daily work. Please feel free to pop in anytime and meet the team at Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital. Call 4736 2027 to make an appointment.
Pupcake Recipe
Animals should not eat cupcakes unless they are specially made with safe, animal friendly ingredients. Chocolate is especially toxic to many animals! Remember, Pupcakes are special treats and shouldn’t be fed to your dog regularly! This recipe makes around 12-14 Pupcakes. Ingredients 2 ¾ cups water ¼ cup unsweetened apple sauce ¼ cup oats 4 cups wholemeal flour 1 cup fresh diced apple 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 cage free egg, beaten slightly 4 tablespoons honey Method - Preheat oven to 175 degrees Celsius. Spray muffin tins with cooking oil. Mix all wet ingredients thoroughly. Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients slowly and mix well. Pour into muffin tins and bake for 25-30 minutes. Once the Pupcakes have cooled, you can ice the Pupcakes with smooth peanut butter.

National Missing Persons Week Missing persons week runs from 31 July, 2011 to 6 August, 2011. National Missing Persons Week is an annual event organised by the National Missing Persons Coordination Centre to raise awareness of the issues and impacts associated with missing persons. Every year 11,000 people will be reported missing to police in NSW. 35,000 people are reported missing each year in Australia – one person every 15 minutes. While in Australia 95 per cent of missing persons are found within a short period of time, the lasting impact, particularly on families, is devastating. Detective Inspector JOBSON said, “For persons thinking about going missing, there is support available to work through your issues. Speak with a trusted family member or friend. Support is also available through Lifeline. For every missing person reported, at least 12 other people are affected whether it is emotionally, physically, psychologically or financially. Those affected can be family, friends, work colleagues and the wider community. As a result, each year almost half a million people in Australia feel the impact when someone goes missing”. Such a partnership can only be positive for the community.” Ms Davies said I am proud to be a part of a government that responds to the needs of local communities. I have met lots of families who need more support services for themselves and their children? and this partnership is a step towards meeting these needs. I am? keen to stay involved in the project and watch first-hand the positive changes the program brings. Glenmore Park Girl Guide District SEEK ENTHUSIASTIC GIRLS AGED 10 - 14
Girl Guides last year celebrated their Centenary of 100 years of changing lives. The Commonwealth Government designated 2010 as the Year of the Girl Guide, and issued commemorative postage stamps and minted $1 gold coins to acknowledge the contribution Girl Guides has given to the Australian community. Our World Flag was flown across Australia on 10 October and Guides were invited to participate in many special centenary events. Girls are offered the opportunity to join in interesting activities while learning life skills and having fun. Their parents know they will learn leadership and teamwork, be safe and make new friends. Adult volunteers with Girl Guides NSW and ACT share a common goal: to give back to the community and to inspire girls and young women to be their best. They believe in helping them achieve a sense of equality by participating in a range of purposive activities.
