Family Centre Ready To Open The long awaited new family centre at Blue Hills is finally ready and Penrith Council is holding an Open Day there on the 28th March, 2010.

I grew up in the Blue Mountains and after graduating from Sydney University with first class honors I worked in the Campbelltown region, the Blue Mountains, and Liverpool in general practice. For the last year and a half I have been working as an emergency

veterinarian at the Veterinary Specialist Centre, which was exciting and challenging. I recently completed a 4 year Master of Veterinary Science in Small Animals and I have a strong interest in surgery and internal medicine.

My pets include Bella the kelpie, 3 cats (Tigger, Blossom and Baby) and 2 pet sheep (Mister Handsome and Lucy). The sheep actually think they are dogs and love a back rub. My aim as a veterinarian is to provide an accurate diagnoses allowing the correct treatment to be provided. Prevention is better than the cure.

I am fortunate to have retained the same friendly staff including Teresa, Justine and Trent. Liz has also returned after a break and Belinda is our newest nurse employee.

Dedication of Padre Pio Catholic Church On February 14, 2010 more than 1300 worshippers, some of whom had travelled long distances, attended the dedication of Padre Pio Catholic Church. After more than 15 years of commitment by the parishioners of Glenmore Park their vision of having a Catholic Church finally became a reality. It is the first parish in Australia to have their church dedicated to Padre Pio, the 20th century miracle-working stigmatic priest.

Bishop Kevin Manning, the outgoing Bishop of the Parramatta Diocese, presided over the concelebrated Mass with 14 priests from the diocese. This was his last official rite as he retires on March 4. Father Andrew Bass guided acolytes, servers and parishioners throughout the 2 hour ceremony.

Parish priest, Fr Kevin Lee, and the community were praised by Bishop Manning for their work in preparing the church for the dedication ceremony. The work and planning was done by numerous volunteers who gave up their time.

Event coordinator, Lynn Young, a member of the parish from the beginning, was supported by a dedicated team for the past 12 months. Cecilia Zammit (liturgy), Gilbert Grech and Mary Kelly (music), Frank Zammit (landscaping) and John Gately (Parish Council chairperson) all worked tirelessly to prepare the parish for this wonderful day. The stunning floral arrangements were provided by Nada Jajo and Priscilla Clements.

The church is not entirely complete due to the lack of funds but the basic needs are in place. The parishioners are overjoyed to have a permanent space that is large enough for the whole parish to celebrate weekend Masses without having to convert halls or classrooms into a sacred space every Saturday afternoon. February 14 was a day of rejoicing for the people of Glenmore Park. They count their blessings daily and give thanks to God for being members of Padre Pio Parish.

7th Annual Anzac Day Jazz Night Once again held at the Settlers Restaurant, Mulgoa on Sunday 25th April, at 7pm.

The Mulgoa Road Jazz Band, a 7 piece dixieland band will be playing a wide variety of jazz from 1920’s and 30’s through to the 70’s.Each year, the Mulgoa Idol competition will feature many local talents, singing, dancing, all in the spirit of fun and competing for the title of Mulgoa Idol 2009.

Anglican Church Extension At Glenmore Park Anglican Church, we are firmly convinced that there is “More to Life”! We believe that this “Real Life” is found in Jesus. Because knowing Jesus is so good, we want to share this amazing life, this “fresh start” with God, with everyone in Glenmore Park.

When our family first moved here to take on the Ministry position at Glenmore Park, it was before the current building existed and the Church met in our garage with around 40 people. Our current Church building is just over 10 years old and in that time we have been encouraged to see it grow so much & see many people from Glenmore Park come to know Jesus & join us either on Sunday or at many of our activities throughout the week. We are fast running out of room now that we have

around 600 coming on a Sunday. Because of this exciting problem, we have been planning extensions to the current building. Now that the final plans have been approved by Penrith Council, we’re hoping that building work will commence by June this year! We will have an auditorium to seat around 400 with a much larger Creche Room, ‘Crying Room’ (Parents’ Room) and many other meeting rooms and expanded space for all our special events and kids, youth, women’s, men’s, young adults’ and family activities and groups. With these extensions, we will be able to more effectively serve the community of Glenmore Park.

Help Council Implement Three Bin System Changes Penrith City Council is calling on residents interested in the changes to the three bin residential waste service to consider applying for a position on Council’s newly formed Waste Services Committee.

Penrith City Mayor Kevin Crameri OAM said joining the committee was an opportunity for community representatives to oversee one of the most important environmental initiatives undertaken in the City’s history.

“This is a chance to participate in concrete discussion on the recommendations adopted by Council to enhance the three bin service,” Councillor Crameri said.

“Committee members will also help Council deliver tangible benefits on the broader sustainability issues of waste management including commercial and industrial waste, e-waste disposal and reuse and the introduction of recycling services in public places.

“Community involvement will help to ensure Penrith City Council’s actions reflect the community’s needs.

“Don’t leave it to someone else to let us know your needs. Consider putting your hand up and getting involved in leading our great City into the future.

Caroline Chisholm Students at ARTEXPRESS A record seven Visual Arts students from the class of 2009 have had their HSC Bodies of Work selected for this year’s ARTEXPRESS exhibitions. ARTEXPRESS is a series of prestigious exhibitions that featured a selection of the best works submitted for the Visual Arts HSC examination in the previous year.

Five students were featured in ARTEXPRESS openings at the Rocks and at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery at Gymea. Francine Buttigieg, Caitlin Holmes and Brooke Mackay have their works in the new Rocks ‘walking trail’ exhibition where the works are featured in shop windows or in hotel foyers at the Rocks in Sydney. Christine Looyschelder and Michelle Piccirilli have their works on show at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery at Gymea. From March 1st till April 25th, Rosemaree Dinaro and Rachel Heaslip

Family Centre The Glenmore Park Child and Family Centre, built and managed by Penrith City Council, provides a range of services for families in Glenmore Park. The centre at 31 Blue Hills Drive contains a children’s centre offering long day care, two community meeting rooms available for hire, a café with seating in an open forecourt and an all abilities playground with secure fencing for families to relax and enjoy the space.

The 50 place Centre is currently taking enrolments for children from ages 06 years. The Centre offers a preschool program for 3-5 year olds, a hot meal during the day and morning and afternoon tea. Nappies and food are included

in the daily price and all staff are trained in contemporary practice including the Early Years Learning Framework.

The two community rooms are currently available for hire for community meetings. Two community professional rooms have been leased to a number of service providers including psychology services, play therapy, diabetic services and podiatry services.

The Family Fun Day will have a free sausage sizzle run by the Penrith Valley Rotary Club, free activities including a jumping castle, face painting, story telling and play dough modelling.

GLENMORE PARK STAGE 2 RELEASE AREA Community Update by Stockland

DEVELOPMENT UPDATE Stockland is excited to be a part of the Glenmore Park Stage 2 Release Area. It is proposed the new master planned community will be developed over 5 years, will comprise approximately 500 residential allotments, as well as new parklands, playing fields and other community facilities. The Concept Plans and early stage Development Applications have been lodged with Council and at this stage we forecast construction to commence in the first half of 2010.

JACARANDA PARK One of the first areas of construction will be the extension of the existing Jacaranda Park currently located on Jacaranda Terrace. The park will more than double in size and will take full advantage of it’s elevated position and outlook.
