FAITH – ST DAVIDS CHURCH LLANDILO Article Written + Submitted by: Rev John Hebblewhite A: Lot 257A Seventh Ave, Llandilo P: 4736 3592 Service Times: 10am each Sunday, with additional services held: 2pm on the Third Sunday + 8am on the Fourth Sunday
When certain periods of history are considered, they always provide data - particularly how their legacy exists in the world today. For example, the French Revolution which dramatically changed European life. The French Revolution, which gradually emerged and came to the fore after the capture of the bastille in Paris, has its classic summary in liberty, equality and fraternity. Now, to what extent was it understood by society at the time? It is certain that in our time, liberty has come to mean the freedom to do what I like and possess what I can pay for; equality seen as each person has the right to vote in parliamentary elections (one man one vote which has often been defined as the plenary inspiration of the odd man) and fraternity which is often expressed in racial and religious ‘superiority’. For the Christian, freedom is better understood as the ability to constrain from deprecating the good in life. In Christ we have the perfect freedom to be and to give to society the realisation that freedom requires giving not to gain for oneself, but rather to create a society which can be at peace with itself. What a challenge! Equality does not allow us to say that there is no such thing as race, class or sex. This is what makes the world a wonderful mystery requiring the recognition that each and every one of us are but a part of the total whole. Fraternity is in many situations a forgotten concept yet is forgotten at a cost. Corruptions in the body politic, lifestyle that breaks down health and joy, wastage and environment destruction all present challenges. So, Christ’s call for repentance (‘think anew’) leads us to reflect and to enter the freedom ‘to be’. This call remains a constant until such time as liberty, equality and fraternity reign supreme.

Jordan Springs Probus Club
One of the issues with retirement is what do you do with your time? Some of us find renewed vigour for old hobbies, like gardening or crafts, both things we could do on our own and in our own homes. But what if that’s not enough? Well, over the years around 125,000 retirees have taken to Probus Clubs with absolute gusto and have been spending much of their retirement time simply socialising and having fun with friends. They’re always happy to tell you how much Probus has brightened their lives and rekindled their zest for fun and friendship in retirement, and they’re equally happy to welcome new members into their Clubs. Members can look forward to an exciting program; featuring interesting guest speakers, monthly meetings, the opportunity to travel locally or around the world and enjoy exclusive discounts through the Probus Member Benefits Scheme. This includes access to exclusive Probus Travel Insurance, developing new interests and staying active. Upcoming events include a coach trip to Floriade in Canberra with an overnight stay with evening meal, a family picnic day at the Australiana Pioneer Village at Wilberforce, a Queen tribute show at Panthers and a Christmas party at Camden Valley Inn. Planning is continuing towards an interstate trip - probably to Tasmania. Come along and join in the fun. The Jordan Springs Probus Club meets at the Jordan Springs Community Hub on the 4th Tuesday of every month, 9:30am for a 10:00am start. Car Rego and Insurance Due? School Fees Looming? Fridge on the Fritz? Don't call a payday lender, call 1800 509 994 about a No Interest Loan. This year marks a memorable and exciting time for cricket in the local community, with the Jordan Springs Cricket Club beginning it’s first official season in the Penrith junior and senior competitions this month. The club already has 35 active juniors and more than 50 active seniors registered for the upcoming season. There will be two junior teams, Under 10’s and Under 11’s, in the Penrith Junior Cricket Association (PJCA) competition, whilst there will be two senior teams, the first in 3rd or 4th grade and the second in 5th or 6th grade, in the Nepean District Cricket Association (NDCA) competition. They also play in two forms of games for seniors which include Sunday fun games, where their team plays T20 matches against other club teams that is not in a competition. The other form is a team that they have that participates in grade level one day match tournaments and competitions. “When forming the Jordan Springs Cricket Club, my first goal was to start with the junior teams first. However, what I did was to gather their Dads first, so the senior teams were started in December last year. In February, we then started the junior teams, from the age groups of 5-11 years in Jordan Springs and Ropes Crossing” said Jordan Springs Cricket Club’s Sunil Chhabra. “This club is for everyone. We are a not-for-profit organisation and are fully affiliated for both our junior and senior teams. The club is run by donations and sponsorships we get. We have volunteers working with me from Jordan Springs and Ropes Crossing and we work for the club and the community and not for money” explained Sunil. The cricket club hope to have a home ground in Jordan Springs within a year. For now, the junior players (from ages 5-13) practice at Village Oval in Jordan Springs on a temporary pitch every Sunday from 4:00pm till 5:00pm. The senior players practice at Jamison Park in Penrith every Saturday from 8:00am. Future plans for the club include expanding the age group from 5-13 years to 5-16 years and to appoint a Level 2 Coach. They also hope to play softball in local competitions as well. “What I’m looking forward to the most about our first season is watching our teams practice hard as they prepare for their upcoming district competitions. We can’t wait to see what our teams will bring home for Jordan Springs and Ropes Crossing” smiled Sunil. If you are interested in registering or would like more information about the Jordan Springs Cricket Club, you can visit their website at https://jordanspringscricketclub.com.au/. Volunteers are also welcome.

KOBHI'S KITCHEN
Hi everyone! My name is Kobhi and I am 9 years old. I love to help my Mum and Dad cook yummy food in the kitchen. Each month, I will share with you some of my favourite recipes. Oh yeah, make sure you always have an adult helping you cook. P.S I hope you enjoy making this. Kobhi
dad's green chicken pasta
Ingredients
One packet of spinach fettuccine (500g) 500g of boneless chicken breast One cup of cream Three tablespoons of fresh basil pesto One tablespoon of olive oil Method
1. Your adult helper needs to boil a pot of water. Once the pot is hot, they can add the packet of spinach fettuccine. 2. My Mum does the next step too. She cuts up the chicken breast into strips. Next, she adds the olive oil to a pan and then cooks the chicken breast. The chicken breast is cooked until it is brown or as Mum says ‘golden’ 3. Add three tablespoons of fresh basil pesto to the chicken in the pan. Make sure the chicken is covered all over with the pesto. I love the smell of pesto! 4. Pour one cup of cream into the pan and mix it with the pesto and the chicken. Let it bubble for a bit. I think they call that simmering. 5. The spinach fettuccine should be ready now. Drain the water. Mum puts it in one of those things with holes in it to help it drain. 6. Add the spinach fettuccine to the chicken and mix it. 7. Ready to Serve

The Braes is returning after a break and offers an extensive display of trees and shrubs, some approaching 100 years old, and a rich diversity of perennials and annuals. Also, a rose garden has been established as well as an orchard with over 20 varieties of fruit and nut trees and thousands of bulbs. Other Festival attractions include the Music in the Gardens program held on each of the six days, the popular Art Show featuring works painted in the Festival gardens, and a wide range of wonderful plants and garden accessories at the Festival Plant Sales Centre. The Art Show and the Plant Sales are open for nine days from Saturday, 5 October. Festival proceeds go to the Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital and other local health-related organisations. Ropes Crossing Community Garden
The Ropes Crossing Community Group is a collective of community minded gardeners who are looking to come together and create a space for our local residents to share. Their aim is to enable community members to tend to a garden, whilst learning and sharing their knowledge of horticulture and permaculture. They are hoping to break ground in Spring for a garden within the grounds of the Ropes Crossing Community Hub, near Ropes Crossing Village Shopping Centre. The group intends to create an edible garden that reflects our local food culture as well as the food cultures of the ethnic groups found in Ropes Crossing. For example, they may grow chillies so that they can make their curries spicy or they may grow tomatoes so that they can make their own pasta sauce. This could also include Australian natives such as plums and bush tomatoes, so that they can help educate their children on how
people lived on this land before Ropes Crossing existed. “We hope to bring people together through gardening, so that we can get to know our neighbours better, learn their stories and to understand them more to foster a sense of community and pride in our suburb. We want people to teach each other about managing a garden, composting, harvesting and show them techniques and tips which they can use in their own gardens. We would like to help children understand where their veggies come from and what it takes to turn a seed into something harvestable. If this sounds interesting or fun to you, we’d love to hear from you” said Julian Munford, Ropes Crossing Community Group member. They meet each month, normally around the middle of the month on a Thursday at the Ropes Crossing Community Hub. You can find out more information about them on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/2241128489474993/ or by emailing them at ropescrossingcommunitygarden@gmail.com. r The grounds at Ropes Crossing Community Hub showing the intended site of the new community garden | Article+Image Julian Munford

We work in partnership with our parish, families and local secondary schools, Xavier College Llandilo, Caroline Chisholm College (girls) Glenmore Park, to provide quality Catholic schooling from Kindergarten to Year 12.
Are you an Angry Parent? It seems that every day, we are reminded of how people are becoming more intolerant, aggressive, and unkind. The other day, a young fella in a car behind me was becoming impatient at my persistence to stick to the speed limit. He sped around me, ran a red light, and nearly collected a pedestrian on the bonnet of his car. I caught up with him at the next traffic light. Was it really necessary to become so aggressive and impatient? Anger is a normal human emotion. It is not ‘bad’. However, sometimes we make poor choices when we are angry. Sustained anger is no good for you or anybody else. The stress and strain that anger causes in your brain and body affects your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, and it damages relationships. Children learn from our example. When we yell or hit, children learn that yelling or hitting is the way to manage conflict. Children are not born with conflict resolution skills. They learn them from us, which means we have to teach conflict resolution skills to our kids and more importantly we have to role model them. Most child behaviour does not require an immediate response from you. You can take the time to centre yourself by breathing and grounding yourself before you choose to respond (rather than react). If your child is about to walk in front of a car or hit her brother on the head with a truck, feel free to react quickly, but this doesn't need to be done in a mean or aggressive way either. The skills that all humans need to learn to get along better with others includes: managing strong emotions; calming down; assertiveness; and problem solving. If you are really struggling with strong emotions, I have started a Mindful Parenting series on the blog https:// handshear tsminds.wordpress.com/categor y/mindfulparenting/

Gift Wrapping Sydney’s West
Transport for NSW has collaborated with local Sydney artists to give a new look to traffic signal boxes across several suburbs in western Sydney. Transport for NSW Director of Sydney Maintenance, David Fishburn said in Parramatta, Liverpool, Blacktown, Penrith and Albury newly designed artwork has been created and printed onto vinyl wraps to spruce up the traffic signal boxes at key intersections and beautify the area. “In partnership with local councils, we have successfully installed 150 wraps on traffic signal boxes across western Sydney,” Mr Fishburn said. “It was a team effort from all involved and Transport for NSW is proud to have played an integral part in the initiative’s success. “The wraps have been designed to celebrate the unique characteristics of each local area for community members and commuters to admire.” Mr Fishburn said historical photographs, aboriginal art and aerial land shots are some of the designs featured on these wraps. “The project serves a dual purpose; it is a unique platform for local artists to display their art and aims to reduce the level of graffiti at these recurring vandalised intersections. Nepean Rotary Donates $5,000 to the Panthers on the Prowl
“Footy Doubles!” Anyone who has ever attended a game at Panthers Stadium is sure to have heard this familiar catchcry from the team at the Nepean Rotary Club. Their familiar faces are found at all the home games – enticing the fans to try their luck in picking the winning ticket for the first try scorers for either side. As a thank you to Panthers for allowing them to fundraise at the home games, the Nepean Rotary Club handed a $5,000 cheque to Brad Waugh, General Manager of Panthers on the Prowl to help with their suite of programs aimed at improving the young lives in the Penrith Community. ONLINE: Brad attended their morning meeting and provided a comprehensiveENTER presentationCODE of the Programs that the “Prowl” offers students ONLINEBDGAZ from Year 3 to young adults. The meeting was very well received by those in attendance. The Nepean Rotary Club has donated over $40,000 in the past financial year to many organisations both in the local community, and overseas. Over $10,000 was given to the Drought Relief Program (Buy a Bale). If you would like to find more about Rotary and maybe even join, please contact Aaron Tyers on 0418 226679. The club meets on Monday mornings, 7:00am to 8:30am at the Penrith RSL Club and is always looking for like-minded volunteers to join their ranks. It’s a great way to start the week!
