No Cemetery action group
Seniors Week
Still no answers from Penrith City Council about the Development Application for the creation of a cemetery and crematorium at Luddenham. The No Cemetery action group formed by residents of the Luddenham area have approached Penrith Council several times seeking detailed information about the cemetery DA and so far have been “fobbed off” with various excuses as to why council cannot or will not supply full details. I have met a number of times with members of this group and frankly I am astounded at what appears to be deliberate avoidance by Council Officers to supply information to residents who have a fundamental right to all the information. I hereby call on Councillors Tanya Davies and Prue Guillaume to bring this matter up before Council and urge Council to provide copies of all material relating to the Luddenham cemetery DA to the action group. They should remind Council, if it is necessary, that Penrith Council have a legal obligation to supply copies of all DA materials and related correspondence to affected residents. There is no question some members of the action group will be affected residents if this application is approved. Like Ms Davies and Ms Guillaume I am also a candidate for the seat of Mulgoa. Luddenham falls within this electorate and I am not prepared to tolerate rate payers and residents within the electorate being blatantly ignored. I’d like to hear back from either one or both of the two candidates within the next week or so that copies of all information and correspondence relating to DA10/1208 will be provided by Council as requested. Patrick Darley-Jones, NSW Greens candidate for Mulgoa.
2011 marks 53 years of Seniors Week celebrations in NSW.The theme, LIVE LIFE, aims to encourage seniors to actively participate in one of the 700 events taking place across NSW during Seniors Week each year. NSW Seniors Week will take place from Sunday 20 March to Sunday 27 March 2011. For information about the Wollondilly Seniors Week events please phone 4677 1105. Penrith Council are also running events: phone 4732 7836. There is not much happening locally except for the Baptist Church dinner in Warragamba which sounds wonderful. The Apron Strings Project is a fascinating event taking place at The Oaks. ‘Come and share your apron stories‘ Monday March 21 9.30am. See page 15 for details.

Judgmentalism or Right Judgment? “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. (Matthew 7:1) In recent years, this little verse has become perhaps the most quoted verse of all. It is often used by moral innovators or critics of Christianity against traditional Christian sexual ethics. The criticism comes: ‘How can you say sex outside of heterosexual monogamous marriage is wrong? You’re a homophobe! You are being judgmental! Jesus said ‘Do not judge!’ Caught off balance, many church people have accepted this argument. Understanding the bible’s teaching that ‘all have sinned’ (Romans 3:23), they reason. ‘Oh yes, I had better not say that anything displeases God. For I don’t want to be judged for my sins’. But simply reading the next 4 verses of Matthew chapter 7 will show the true meaning of the verse. ‘2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.’ (Matthew 7:2-5 NIV) Jesus is not saying here that all sexual practices are OK. Nor is he saying that no-one can ever say that something is wrong. Otherwise, no one can be a judge or a magistrate.
No one can serve on a jury. No one can make laws. No parent can discipline their child for misbehavior. In fact, no one can ever say that anything is ever wrong. Because that would be being ‘judgmental’. In that case, the only thing that is ever wrong is saying something is wrong. The one thing that is wrong is to say something is wrong. But no one can or does run their lives like this. In Matthew 7:1-5, Jesus is warning against hypocrisy. He is wanting his followers to get their lives in order before they correct and help others. The Apostle Paul said something similar: ‘Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.’ (Galatians 6:1-2 NIV) Someone caught in sin should be helped out of it with gentleness and love. Those doing this must be aware that they too are sinful and can fall. But none of this means that there is no such thing as ‘sin’ or that the ‘sin’ should not be called ‘sin’. Jesus spent much time and energy denouncing sin. Jesus pointed out that sin was not just the things people did, but also the things people thought. So it was not just the murderer, but the person angry with his brother, who was subject to judgment. Jesus said calling someone ‘fool’ put the name caller in danger of the fire of hell. (Matthew 5:22) Likewise, Jesus said the man who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery in his heart (Matthew 5:28). No room here for, ‘you can read the menu, but must always eat at home’. Again, Jesus said that the person who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another, commits adultery (Matthew 19:9). And shock horror,
Jesus considered adultery as sin. Jesus gave a long list of sins when he said that out of a person’s heart comes ‘evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside’ (Mark 7:21-23 NIV). How judgmental is all this? Jesus said ‘at the beginning the Creator “made them male and female”, and said, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh” (Matthew 19:4-5 NIV) Male and female is part of Jesus’ definition of marriage. This is not being judgmental. This is showing right judgment. All sin can be forgiven. That is why Jesus died and rose again for us. That is why we call him ‘Saviour’. And we are all sinners needing to be saved. But we still need to call sin ‘sin’. Jesus’ special envoy to the non-Jews, hand picked against all expectation by the risen Jesus Christ himself, the Apostle Paul, said this to the Corinthian church, whose membership in past times had committed all sorts of sins: 9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-12 NIV) Matt Olliffe Minister, Anglican Parish of Mulgoa

Clean Up Australia @ Norton’s Basin It was the second time round for Clean-Up Australia at beautiful Norton’s Basin. The water was running clear and the fish jumping. The good news was less rubbish overall but still 20 big bags. The bad news is plastic and glass bottles remain the number one culprit so please carry your bottles out and recycle. Illegal dumping also remains a local problem with electronic goods, green waste and tyres abandoned by people who clearly think it is somebody else’s problem when we all share the same backyard. This year we also extended to
Share a cuppa, some cake and craft (cost $5) whilst hearing a speaker on parenting and relationships from a Christian perspective. A separate kids fun time with experienced carers is available for children 0-5 years old.

Sue Johnson
7th November 1947 to 1 March 2011 Sue has lived in Silverdale with her husband Bob “the Painter” and her three daughters “Miss” Shelley, Trisha and Cherie for nearly thirty years. You would often see her up the shops with a friendly smile and always ready to chat or sell you Foxtel. If you had been to Penrith Plaza and walked past the Foxtel Kiosk, there is a good chance you may have chatted to her or just a smile as you walked by. Sue was also known for her love of Poker, which she would attend every week at numerous places. She loved her Poker nights and the friends she made there. She was much loved by her family and she loved her family with all her being, it was everything to her. Her family were her sunshine and she was ours. As the years went by and the girls grew up she welcomed their partners Greg, Scott and Elyse into her family and she loved them just the same. She was the most “epic” nanny and loved by her three grandchildren, Josh, Livvi and Sabrina. She couldn’t do enough
for them and only wanted to see them smile. You will be missed by all A sunbeam to warm you, A moonbeam to charm you, A sheltering angel, so nothing can harm you.
Bull riding Champion Dillon Harvey-Smith is only 15 years old but he won the Open ‘Bull ride' event at the recent Luddenham Show. Dillon has a real affinity with animals and has won quite a few events at country shows in the past year. He won the buckle at the Orange Stampede Junior Bronc and Steer event and the Junior Bareback Rider event at Mend o o r a n , amongst o t h e r placements. Dillon’s family breed horses in Luddenham, as well training them and
racing them for harness racing. Dillon wanted to try something a bit more adventurous and started with the bull and horse events less than a year ago. He is planning on going to Canada later in the year for bull riding on the pro circuit. Dillon uses a special rope with a bell to hold on and try and control the bull, but it doesn’t look that easy! Dillon also rides different horses every week and is finding a talent for being able to break them in. Dillon’s younger sister Paula is only 7 and in year 2 at Luddenham school. She came 2nd in the 'poddy calf ride' at the show and managed to stay on for the full time. She is already determined to be a champion horse and bull rider!

Official Opening of Warragamba Preschool Monday 21st March Warragamba Preschool Inc. was awarded capital works funding of $355,000 early 2010 through the NSW Preschool Growth Program. This funding enabled us to expand our building and upgrade some of the older sections of the preschool to meet the communities growing need for quality early childhood care. Building works were delayed by wet weather, however we finally made it to commence operation Term 1, 2011. We are now able to cater for 60 children per day and have three age specific rooms catering for children 2-6 years old. The room names have also changed to reflect our community, environment and Australian culture. We have the Akuna room catering for 4-5 year old; Akuna is the aboriginal word for flowing water. The Broula room caters for 3-4 year olds; Broula is the aboriginal word for trickling water. The Corrong room caters for 2-3 year olds; Corrong is the aboriginal word for cold water. Limited vacancies still exist within the preschool however
contact us as soon as possible if you require enrolment for your child during 2011 or 2012. To commemorate this achievement we invite members of the community as well as local politicians and stake holders in the project to our Afternoon Tea Celebration on Monday 21st March 2011 at 4.30pm. Please contact the preschool office on 4774-1249 for further details.
The End of an Era
Six and half years ago Warragamba Preschool Inc (a not for profit Preschool) was fortunate to have the knowledge and skills of Cathy Moon join as Director. At the time the preschool was at 32% capacity and operating one room only. Warragamba Preschool reached full capacity a couple of years later, with 2 rooms working, and a waiting list. This would not have happened without the determination and vision of Cathy Moon. She built the centre to cater to the needs of the local community, always getting involved in local events to promote the centre and making others aware of what it offers for young children and their families. She applied for a water grant with
the Federal Government in 2006/2007 to improve the water efficiency inside and outside the Preschool. This was the first Preschool to be accepted in NSW for this grant and the Preschool and the local community got together to celebrate with a festival in July 2007 and managed to raise $10,000. This meant better equipment for the children and greater learning opportunities. As a result of her efforts to date she was recognised in 2007 as NSW Director of the Year by Community Child Care Cooperative. She continued to take the Preschool further into the future after such an award, building its reputation where families flocked to the area purely to have their children attend the Preschool and benefit from the educational expertise of the Director. Then last year Cathy Moon applied and received a one off grant from the NSW Preschool Growth Program of almost $400,000. This was given to preschools that were proving to be growing and moving forward. The Preschool and the community were in awe at such a gift and decided to build a school readiness room bringing the places available from 39 to 60 each

day. The room that is known as Akuna (meaning flowing water) opened up this year at full capacity. As exciting as the year began it is now with much sadness that Cathy Moon will not be there to see this room and preschool flourish even further. She has decided to move on focusing on other aspects of her life. I know Cathy Moon will be greatly missed as she was an asset to the local community believing in doing her best for the children and their families. Farewell Cathy we wish you all the best for the future and I know many children that will talk about the difference you have made to their lives for many years to come. The Wollondilly Electorate Phil Costa is the current sitting MP for the seat of Wollondilly. He is also Water Minister and Corrective Services Minister. Phil won the seat in the 2007 election by a 4.6% margin. There are 47,409 voters (2007 election) covering a small part of Campbelltown and the whole of Wollondilly Shire. The polling stations are Silverdale Child
Care Centre (Taylors Rd) and Warragamba Public School (Weir Rd) We will also be voting for the Upper House on the 26th March. Darren Marton, the drugs campaigner, has visited Warragamba in the past talking to young people. He has created The No-Way Campaign after finally turning his life around in 2004 and is standing as an Independent for the Upper House. www.darrenmarton.com
Phil Costa - Australian Labor Party Phil Costa MP is the current member for the State seat of Wollondilly and is also Water Minister and Corrective Services Minister. He was elected in the 2007 Election, after being an independent Councillor for Wollondilly Shire from 1985-2008 he was Deputy Mayor 1999-2005 and Mayor 20052007. He is an active community member and was awarded Citizen of the Year in 1984. He has lived in Wollondilly for the past 35 years and is married to Christine with two adult children. To contact Phil wollondilly@parliament.nsw.gov.au or 4683 2622 Chris Dalton - Christian Democratic Party See: www.cdp.org.au If elected, Chris will fight to :•Focus on families, single parents, disabled and youth. •Provide proper care of our ageing population. •Support small business and the local economy. •Preserve our natural environment by good use of water resources, waste management & recycling. •Keep SRE classes in our local schools. •Preserve our Australian Christian heritage. Judy Hannan a councillor and previous Mayor of Wollondilly said that the people of Warragamba and Silverdale deserve better than politicians that are good at “the numbers”. Most of us are sick to the stomach of the back room deals of the major parties – many times for their personal benefit - and not for the people they serve. More and more independents are leading the way - they want to serve the people who voted for them are not the party who tells them what to do. She was a member of the Liberal and National parties and has now chosen to run as an independent. Judy is committed to high standards of honesty, accountability and evidence based decision making and will fight for this community. She will not back down when the Government wants to make decisions that do not favour this electorate Judy Hannan - Independent To contact Judy judy@judyhannan.com or 0414 557 799
Jai says “I understand the issues that are important to our community. As a father of two boys, one just a few months old, I have a genuine interest in making sure they grow up in a strong, safe and caring community. At the moment, I don’t think that’s happening. We’ve been let down by our Labor Member of Parliament. I’m going to change that. I will be fighting hard to increase tourism opportunities for Warragamba and Silverdale, improve the quality of our roads and transport options for our community.Wollondilly needs a Local Liberal MP to ensure we receive the funding we deserve.” Jai Rowell - Liberal Party To contact Jai jai@jairowell.com 0450 410 104

The Mulgoa Electorate Diane Beamer has been the local MP for 12 years for the ALP and is retiring. The seat was held with a margin of 11.1% at the last election. There are 49,254 voters in the area stretching from Bringelly to Colyton to the Nepean River. It is compulsory to vote and there is a Election Reminder Facility which allows
you to register for an email and/or SMS to be sent whenever a Local Government or State Parliamentary (not Federal Government) election event for which you are enrolled is pending. More details at www. elections.nsw.gov.au The polling stations in Glenmore Park are Glenmore Park High School, Glenmore Parkway and Glenmore Park Public School, The Lakes Drive.
Prue Guillaume, the Labour candidate, lives in Glenmore Park . Prue has lived in Nepean Valley all her life, and was school captain of Caroline Chisholm Catholic College in Glenmore Park. She works for the MS Society of NSW. As a local councillor on Penrith City Council, Prue has spoken up for her area and fought hard to deliver results on issues such as: • Forcing the State Government to reject the proposed tip at Orchard Hills; • Forcing the State Government to back down on a plan to dump toxic waste at Kemps Creek; • Improving local sporting fields; • Cleaning up the Blue Hills Wetlands; and • Winning a commitment for a fenced off-leash dog park. Prue wants to speak up for her community in NSW Parliament. Telephone Prue: 0401 678 520
Tanya Davies, the Liberal candidate says “Serving our local community has always been important to me. For the last 11 years I’ve worked in higher education, including the University of Western Sydney and Western Sydney TAFE, supporting the training and development of young people. Prior to this I worked as a Physiotherapist in our public health system and learnt first hand what we need for better health care for our community. As a local councillor, I have successfully fought for local road safety improvements and, most recently, secured a commitment from Council to upgrade local playgrounds. I’m passionate about our area. My husband, Mark, and I are raising our three year old daughter, Laura, in Glenmore Park. As a mother, I have a genuine interest in making sure my daughter grows up in a strong, safe and caring community. That’s why I’m campaigning for more frontline police, improved public transport, the Erskine Park Link Road to the M7 to take trucks off our streets and muchneeded resources for Nepean Hospital. I know that by becoming your local member in a government led by Barry O’Farrell, we can make a real difference in our community and work towards Making NSW Number One Again”. Telephone Tanya: 0435 874 850 Patrick Darley-Jones, local business owner from Luddenham is the Greens candidate “I joined the Greens because I saw in them a progressive, grassroots, truly democratic party, a party that listens to people and is not biased by vested interests,” Patrick said. Patrick has been in manufacturing all his working life and is passionate about keeping manufacturing jobs in Australia; he has watched with dismay successive governments of both major parties turn a blind eye to the export of jobs to China and elsewhere. “Manufacturing is a true wealth creation industry where people add value to materials and items and so contribute to the economy of the nation,” Patrick says. “More than ever we need clean industry jobs in the Nepean region that focus on sustainability and technology, jobs that benefit both society and the environment.” Patrick believes there are fantastic opportunities for trades people, professionals and small businesses in building a ‘Clean Energy and Technology Hub’ here in western Sydney. “The long neglected Badgerys Creek airport site in particular, currently owned by the Federal government, would be the perfect site,” said Patrick. Patrick is helping the Luddenham community with their opposition to the cemetery. He says ‘above all else the Greens stand for grass roots democracy and consultation with people about their needs and wishes’. “The Greens will provide leadership for the future, jobs for our children, security for our way of life, indeed for the health of our planet,” said Patrick and he urged the community to “vote for change, REAL Change in 2011.” You can contact Patrick on 0416 528 455. Tony Robinson is standing as an Independent. Candidate. He is a 41 year old delivery driver from Penrith. He is married with 2 adult children. He says “‘I am running for the seat of Mulgoa as an Independent because I am tired of the way the government is treating the people. Both major parties are to blame. They release promise after promise and I am not sure which ones they have honoured. Australians are way overtaxed. The government should stop giving so much money overseas. I was always told charity begins at home - what about our homeless and the people in trouble here?” Amongst other issues he believes the health system needs more nurses and hospitals upgraded, roads need major work, better public transport, tax reduction for farmers, better public facilities for rural NSW, reduce the import of food in half, Reduce the time people come to Australia to work with a work visa by half, abolish the point system for driver licences and reduce the length of stop over time on truck drivers.
