Yet another cemetery planned for Greendale Residents in Greendale, Wallacia and Bringelly were very concerned about the proposal to to build a multi denominational cemetery on Greendale Road with 70,000 graves, a flower shop and a cafe. Stage 2 includes a crematorium. However yet another application has been made for a crematorium on Greendale Road with a temple, facilities for meditation, and dormitary accomodation, with parking for 191 cars. The first application for a burial ground at the Bringelly end of Greendale Road is still being considered and there are two other outstanding applications for cemeteries at Rossmore, making 5 new cemeteries in the area. Local residents are concerned about the traffic, pollution of the environment and the change in lifestyle from rural living to commercial enterprise.

SRE is not Ethics I have taught Protestant or Anglican SRE (aka ‘Scripture’) in 5 public schools and 1 high school over the last 8 years. It is a vital, rewarding and challenging work. In each instance, SRE has been a great way for school and church to work together. I have had great working relationships with principals, school teachers, and other SRE volunteers. It is truly a community activity. I have studied undergraduate philosophy and ethics courses. Protestant SRE is not ethics. It is ‘Special Religious Education’. It teaches the bible and bible teaching on God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, how to be right with God through trusting Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection, and how to respond to God’s love by loving him with your whole heart and loving your neighbour as yourself. In short, it teaches a Christian worldview and Christian morality. Atheistic and Agnostic Ethical systems attempt to work out what is right or wrong without reference to God. So they simply give an imprimatur to the political or social values of the group that espouses them. But ethics without God can only ever be an opinion. It ex-
presses one preference. It amounts to saying, ‘I like this behaviour’ and ‘I dislike this behaviour’. If humans are just evolutionary accidents, the results of ‘slime + time’, and life is about ‘survival of the fittest’, and we’re all just dust in the end anyway, the only reason I will care for you is if it benefits me. This is called ‘enlightened self interest’. I feel good about myself by doing good. It will benefit me to live in a good society. That’s why I am good. But in the end, there is no absolute good. There is no right or wrong, because life is just an accident. Ultimately, might makes right. What is right is what I can get away with that will benefit me. Famous Atheist Richard Dawkins seems to have no answer to this: If somebody used my views to justify a completely self - centred lifestyle, which involved trampling all over other people in any way they chose roughly what, I suppose, at a sociological level social Darwinists did - I think I would be fairly hard put to it to argue on purely intellectual grounds. .. I couldn’t, ultimately, argue intellectually against somebody who did something I found obnoxious. I think I could finally only say, “Well, in this society you can’t get away with it” and call the police. (http://
www.damaris.org/content/content. php?type=5&id=102). Christian morality is different. Humans are made in the image of God. And God has revealed himself in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ gave himself for people’s sins. So the basis of Christian moral behaviour is that humans are dignified image bearers, and God himself loved his enemies in the person of Jesus Christ. So Christians should go and do likewise. Matt Olliffe Minister, Anglican Parish of Mulgoa 4774 0422 www.anglicanparishmulgoa.com.au

French design comes to Mulgoa You may be surprised to see a French chateau style home in The Straight Road in Mulgoa. It has been built in a traditional style from limestone by Michael Wentworth, a local plumber. His wife, Fiona, is a qualified interior designer specialising in the French style. Fiona used to have a showroom in Surry Hills, called ‘French on Surry’ selling French inspired home and giftware and is now able to reduce her prices and sell below retail. Fiona has used her talent to decorate their beautiful home and to transform a small cottage in the garden into a new showroom for her collection. Until it is completed, Fiona has a temporary showroom upstairs in the house with a selected variety of home and gift wares. It is only open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but appointments after hours are welcome. La Petite Maison, as the cottage at the back has been named, is a lovely little house in which Fiona is also planning to be used as the venue for an art exhibition in the future.

The Touch for Health model does not treat or diagnose symptoms, but works with the energy, lifestyle and aspirations of the client while aiming to bring the client in a state of homeostasis (complete balance). How To Avoid Winter Weight Gain Hopewood Health Retreat has put together its top nine tips for warding off those extra kilos that tend to creep up on us during Winter. Tip 1 - Exercise is your best weapon against winter weight gain. By adding strength training, you will burn more calories. If the gym is not your thing, take advantage of your local parks or get familiar with your neighbourhood by walking. Try focusing on your legs; because they hold the largest muscles in the body, they can burn more calories than any other part of your body, so walk fast! You can add a little extra oomph to your walk by carrying a water bottle in each hand filled with sand, or wear wrist weights and swing your arms while walking. Tip 2 - Taking up a new sport is great for the body and mind – there’s something new to learn and dormant muscles to be used. Swimming is a great way to burn energy; it consumes more calories per hour than running, bicycling or weightlifting. Or take up a new winter sport and make that midyear holiday a ski trip! Tip 3 - Eat well. Try plenty of winter vegetables that are low in fat and calo-
ries but high in nutrients, like squash, onions, broccoli and cauliflower. Avoid lathering them in butter and try sprinkling on some herbs or pour over a small amount of good oil like avocado, walnut or pumpkin. A good tip is to fill half or three quarters of your plate with salad, steamed vegetables or braised greens. If you find yourself craving something sweet, try drinking a hot drink and eat a few raisins, dried apple or prunes. Be prepared and carry healthy snacks in your bag. Tip 4 - Reduce or eliminate alcohol Alcohol contains loads of empty calories; it slows down your metabolism and, in turn, can lead to weight gain. You could try a wine spritzer instead of a full glass of wine or stick to good old water; squeeze in a wedge or two of fresh lemon to add flavour. Tip 5 - Drink plenty of water Even though the temperature has dropped and it’s no longer hot and sweaty weather, you still need to drink water. Drinking water can also help to keep you feeling full so you’re less prone to snacking. Try adding a touch of hot water to your glass to warm it up, or a slice of lemon to make the water more palatable. Tip 6 - Supplement Take a good multivitamin, fish oil and probiot-
ics. This will help to keep your body healthy and energetic and may also stop you from craving sugars and fats. Tip 7 - Eat Breakfast Include some additional fibre (e.g. psyllium or LSA) or lean protein if possible. This very important meal kickstarts your metabolism and provides your body with fuel to create the energy you need to get you going. Tip 8 - Skip the Coffee and opt for Green Tea instead. Caffeine causes a temporary surge in blood sugar levels which causes the pancreas to secrete excessive amounts of insulin, which is used to regulate blood sugar levels. What happens next is a blood sugar crash as your body calls out for more glucose, which the brain requires in order to function. The result is that you experience carbohydrate cravings and blood sugar swings. Instead try drinking Green Tea as the health benefits far outweigh the detriments of the small amount of caffeine that it contains. Tip 9 - Avoid artificial sweeteners Current research shows that regular use of artificial sweeteners can actually make you gain weight. Try natural sweeteners like Xylitol or Stevia (available from any good health food store) to replace sugar and artificial sweeteners.

Emergency Services Minister Steve Whan has announced that the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) is launching the official RFS iPhone™ application designed to alert people to bush fire activity in NSW. ‘Fires near Me’ will be available to download free of charge from Apple’s Application store The Minister said that the RFS has been working closely with Apple™ to ensure that the Application is an efficient and useable tool that will benefit NSW communities.“As well as giving residents the ability to monitor when and where Total Fire Bans are in place, Fires near Me also allows people to identify bush fire activity as it is happening,” said Mr Whan. “This Application is another strategy implemented by the RFS to heighten community awareness and deliver effective communication. “Fires near Me will complement the suite of tools available to the public including the recently upgraded RFS website and 1800 Information Line,” said Mr Whan. RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said that the need for the public to have access to accurate and timely information on fires was one of the most important lessons learned from last year’s tragic Victorian bush fires. “With more and more people using mobile phone technology to access instant information, Fires near Me provides people with an opportunity to retrieve important updates. “We’re urging people across the State to download Fires near Me and familiarise themselves with its capabilities before the start of the next bush fire season,” said Commissioner Fitzsimmons.

150th Anniversary for Luddenham Public School 14th and 15th August 2010 Preparations are well underway for a weekend of nostalgia and fun for both past and present students, their families and the citizens of Luddenham. Vicary’s Woolshed Dinner and Bush Dance will commence our celebrations. Tickets are $52 per head. Bookings can be made at school or contact Lenka Nikesitch on 0418 622 752. Buying a commemorative paver for your child or family is a wonderful way of ensuring that your family will be part of the history of Luddenham Public School forever. The pavers will be laid outside the school library and surround the school emblem. There will still be some available during the weekend A time capsule will be buried in the school grounds during our big day of celebration on the 15th August. If you have suggestions of what you would like to see buried in the capsule please contact the school. The 150th Cookbook is ready for sale and a book, detailing 150 years of Luddenham Public School is well un-
derway but it is not too late to provide information to the office. Mrs Cooper has been very busy scanning old photos and letters. Class photos, pre 1960, and interesting stories would be much appreciated. The school will be running a white elephant stall as part of the celebration. Old school furniture will be sold as well as goods that the students bring in. Old furniture and wares are being encouraged to help set the theme of the day. Do you need to clean out the shed at the back of the yard? Perhaps we can help by taking unwanted memorabilia. If you need more information please see Mrs Mendham at school. After our very successful Games Day last term, part of the afternoon on the 15th August will be dedicated to “old fashioned” games. The games will be open to everyone. Grandfathers might like to start brushing up on their marble skills. There will be an interesting teddy bear display in the K/1 classroom on our celebration day. For the Street Parade, Jamison St will be closed off at 9.30. Olden day vehicles and many more moving items of interest will be parading. All students will be asked to wear “olden day” clothes for the parade.
The official opening is 10.00am on the 15th August followed by a skipping display. Our school playground will be filled with special events on the day including: barbecue, devonshire teas, an old tractor display, sheep shearing, cow milking and butter churning, market stalls, wood chopping, duck and chook pen, pony rides, face painting If you have any information or are seeking more information please speak to Mrs Cooper at the office and she will direct you to a committee member.

Harry Camplin 23.12.1918 - 23.5.2010
Family and friends joined together on the 26th May 2010 to celebrate the life of Harry Camplin. Harry’s life had seen many hardships as a young boy, having to live through the Depression, which meant that he had to leave school and find work to help support his family. This gave Harry strength for the years to come, giving him a caring heart for all whose paths he crossed. Harry was involved in both Wallacia Golf Club for about 35 years and also Wallacia Bowling Club for the last 15 year of his life. He enjoyed playing competitive sport and the comradeship that this brought into his life. A number of years after losing his first wife June, Harry married his second wife Fay and took on the raising of her three children. They were married for 34 years. The last 12 months of Harry’s life were a struggle for him and he lost the battle to live on the evening of the 23rd May. Harry left his family with a legacy to carry on. We can truly say that we were the luckiest people in the world,
to have him as a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Who needs help in our community? Wollondilly’s annual Charity Paintball Tournament will be held at Ultimate Paintball at Camden South on Sunday, July 4, and organisers are looking for someone to benefit. All the money raised will go to individuals, families or organisations in the community who need financial help. Ultimate Paintball in Cawdor has partnered with Mount Annan Church Community Services for the event and have asked residents to nominate someone who needs financial support. Ultimate Paintball owner Peter Moss said his business would donate all the paint and expenses to ensure every dollar was put back into the community. ‘‘The event will start at 8am and there will be lots going on to keep everyone entertained, as well as medals and prizes for the teams at the end of the day,’’ he said. ‘‘We encourage all players to come in fancy dress. ‘‘Last year we raised $5000 so my hope is that we can double that.’’ Mount Annan Church Commu-

Holy Family School On 27th May the students of Holy Family school were treated to a wonderful cultural experience when the Watoto Children’s Choir visited. The Watoto Choir is from Uganda in Eastern Africa and is made up of children who have been orphaned through war, poverty and disease.
The motto for Watoto is Rescue, Raise and Rebuild which refers to the way the child’s lives are rescued, they are raised in a loving family and then they can go on to rebuild their lives and ultimately their country. The children from the choir per-
formed two songs for the students of Holy Family and our school choir sang a song of welcome to the choir. The Watoto group performed a spectacularly colourful and very memorable concert for an enthusiastic audience during the evening in the Holy Family Catholic Church. The concert was a message of hope for all people and a triumph of the human spirit. Many of the children spent the Thursday night with sponsor families from the school community, which further added to the cultural experience for these families.
Environmental Success Holy Family School has been recognized in a local environmental project run by the Penrith Lakes Development Corporation. Our student led Environment Team submitted a project on the various en-
vironmentally friendly practices we have at Holy Family School. These include the collection and use of rainwater for toilet flushing and hand washing, low energy lights, solar panels and our water recycling plant. The competitions judges awarded Holy Family School one of the top prizes for its entry. Congratulations go to the members of our Stage 3 Environment Team Brenden Chetcuti, Mitchell Jennings, Luisa Barillaro, Biance Mammone, Bradley Bell, Daniel McCall, Cooper Fuz and Adam Gasparovic for the work they do and environment ambassadors of our school and for the quality of their project.

New Funding for Neighbourhood Centre The Warragamba Silverdale Neighbourhood Centre coordinator, Leanne Franklin, has welcomed the NSW Government’s announcement of increased funding for community strengthening programs in the Community Services Grants Program. The Minister for Community Services Linda Burney has fought very hard for this sector and has achieved something we have been seeking for over 20 years, says Leanne. “Services like ours, local and at the heart of the community, offer community based services and are often the foundation on which the rest of the service system stands. Our neighbourhood centre provides information, support and referral. We have a large variety of groups and classes to cater for ages and interest in the the community. Some of our groups include: Sewcraft, Line Dancing, Gentle exercise, Walking group, Tai Chi, Art, Playgroup, Playlinks, Warrayites Youth Activities, School Holiday craft groups, Men’s Shed, computer courses, Parenting workshops. The Warragamba Silverdale Neighbourhood Centre forms one part of the Warragamba Silverdale Neighbourhood Centre Inc, our other services include Teddy Bear Cottage Occasional Care, Warradale Wigwam Out of School Hours Care Service and Warragamba Silverdale Family Support. For more information on the many services provided by The Warragamba Silverdale Neighbourhood Centre please call Leanne on 47741273 or check out our website www. wsnc.org.au

THANKYOU to our neighbours The West family living in Bents Basin Road in Wallacia had their home robbed recently. They want to thank their neighbours as they said “In that time of crisis we had the police, dog squad and polar helicopter to help find the criminals concerned. They were disturbed by our neighbour who noticed our dog carrying on and decided to investigate. He placed his tractor so the car could not leave. They fled the scene on foot Police were called, we were informed and everyone gave their best to help So we wish to say THANKYOU to the neighbours of Bents Basin Road. (Unforturnately there has been a few robberies in this area so hopefully these criminals will be caught.) Our daughter arrived home 10 minutes after the neighbour disturbed these criminals and she would have been the one walking in on them so we are forever grateful for our own neighbour hood watch and our community” As a follow up to that, the offenders escaped by swimming across the river. A kind hearted resident looked
after them, gave them towels to get dry after believing their lies as to why they were wet. Maybe it made them feel bad about committing a crime in such a nice friendly community!

This initiative has been suggested by members of the new Warradale Community Action Association Inc. to cut down on crime and anti social behaviour. It is a program to be run by the community which means YOU. YOU have to call the police Emergency 000 St Marys police 9677 7499 YOU have to watch and gather information and descriptions of vehicles, offender, and the offence. YOU have to write the information down and give to the police. This can lead to the arrest and charging of people responsible for crime and anti social behaviour. The group will support you if you are a witness, victim or informant. This means being with you during police interviews, going to court with you if it gets that far, talking or visiting you if you are afraid and just helping,

This is not a vigilante group – it is a Community Watch Group The group needs ideas and suggestions to make it work. If you are interested in helping to cut down on crime and anti social behaviour, please contact 0407 674 478 or 0414 868 535 The Workers Club is celebrating 49 years since it opened as a wet canteen for the workers on the dam. It was burnt down in 2001 and the new club was opened across the road on February 2005. The club is a great supporter of the community and provides annual scholarships to local students and supports all the local sporting and community groups. They provide facilities and meeting rooms and support charity fundraising such as ‘Shave for a Cure.’ Anzac Day is also well supported. There are 7 Directors with the present President Tim Maybury. The club employs 11 staff and the manager is Lauren Heydon. They cater for bus tours and provide a special 2 course meal for $12 for them. There are sub-clubs for fishing, golf, darts and the Dam Riders. The website has plenty of information - see more details below.

Can you match the position of each hen (A, B, C) with its name and the number of eggs it laid?
1. Scratchy laid twice as many eggs as the hen at C. 2. The hen at B laid three more eggs than Chooky. 3. One of the hens is called Pecky. 4. One hen laid 2 eggs, one laid 4 eggs and one laid 5 eggs.
Chicken and Egg solution Scratchy laid 4 eggs and hen C laid 2 eggs (clues 1 and 4). Hen B laid 5 eggs and Chooky laid 2 eggs (clues 2 and 4). By elimination, hen A laid 4 eggs and Pecky (clue 3), is hen B.
