Planning Your Building Project Building designers will ask the client questions regarding the family lifestyle and needs, to live comfortable in their proposed new surroundings. We will ask the client if they have any sketches or drawing ideas of what they propose the new structure will look like, from a floor plan to a front elevation. The idea of the first consultation is to obtain a lot of information. We would like to see existing building plans, site plans and other relevant documentation that the client has, so that we can provide a proper quotation for them. Proposed design sketches are not provided during the initial consultation. We don’t provide drawn ideas or sketches until we have a legal agreement/contract and where money for the deposit has been exchanged. After visiting the client, we start preparing the design quotation. Designers will go over the documentation that the client has provided like existing construction drawings, site plans, structural engineering details and surveyors certificate. From this information and their brief, we can determine the scale of the proposed project. It is important to apply to your local council for a 149 Certificate. This certificate will state what the zoning is for the client’s property and what can and cannot be constructed on their site. The 149 Certificate also states if the property is in a flood zone, bushfire zone, mining subsidence area or heritage and environmental sensitive areas. Building designers quote the architectural design, building specifications, structural engineering design and certification, documentation such as Basix, statement of environmental effect, sediment control plan, waste management plan, safety notes; as well as the printing of drawings, documentation and GST for the design project. ARE YOU A SMALL BUSINESS? DO YOU NEED ASSISTANCE WITH YOUR BACK-OFFICE OBLIGATIONS? Carol at Odyssey Bookkeeping is a registered bookkeeper and BAS agent located in Luddenham.

The local community is proud to have one of their own sporting champions reach the highest level recently, with Luddenham raised Jake Stein pulling on the orange and charcoal jersey to make his AFL debut for the GWS Giants against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. What makes this achievement even more incredible is that 25-year-old Stein only began playing Australian Rules Football for the Giants in the NEAFL just two years ago, after a successful career in athletics competing in the decathlon. “Making my AFL debut for the Giants was unbelievable. I was nervous and excited from finding out to the build-up before the game and the game itself. The support I received from everyone was great. Playing with the Giants boys at that level was amazing” Jake told the Mulgoa Valley Gazette. Growing up in Luddenham, Jake has many fond memories of his time there, “I started school at Holy Family Catholic Primary School and went there from kindergarten to year six. I lived in the area for 15 to 20 years. The people in the community are nice and easy going. I have two brothers and we all learnt how to play sport there, whether it was soccer or cricket”. Jake’s rise to play in the AFL came after he represented Australia at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in the Decathlon. A junior athlete with Warradale LAC, he was the first life member who was an athlete with the club. Jake also played soccer with St Marys Convent Soccer Club and Marconi. “As a kid, I was always playing sport. Running around or just kicking balls, I wanted to keep busy. My parents have been very supportive and encouraged me with whatever I was playing or competing in. They sacrificed a lot for my brothers and I with sport and everyday life” he said. Jake is now focused on cementing a place in the Giants AFL team, “I’ve reset my goals. I’d love to break into the AFL team. If I play well, my confidence and self-belief with follow. It’s a hard team to get into and I’m determined to get there”. U Feature Article [Cover + Above] GWS Giant’s Jake Stein | Image: GWS Giants Media

Pastor’s Corner Recently, I spent a couple of days with three of my grandchildren. The eldest is a boy aged 11, and his two sisters are 8 and 6. I was minding them at their place, planning to take them to the movies. The girls asked me if they could put on some makeup? I said no, because we were going out. About half an hour later, I noticed that they both ignored my instructions and their faces were covered with makeup. Why had they disobeyed me? I was annoyed with them, maybe angry, and I told them to wash it off their faces. A few minutes later, still annoyed by their actions, I told them to cover their faces with as much makeup as they like as we were not going to the movies. Why was I angry? After all, little girls will experiment with makeup because they see older girls and women using makeup. My anger was about them disobeying what I had told them and that was what hurt me the most in this situation. The Bible says: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for a man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.” (James 1:19 -20). When I think about my approach to this problem, I had reversed the order. I was angry, then I spoke long before I had listened. I am sure that I am not the only person who finds themselves making such mistakes. Later, I went and spoke to both girls and I explained why I didn’t want them to wear makeup as we were going out to the movies. I listened as they told me what the young woman, who lives next door, had told them about makeup and skincare. Later that day, we went to the movies and they certainly enjoyed themselves. Being a parent or a grandparent is never easy. There is so much still to learn, but there is something wonderful about these opportunities. My prayer for each of you is that you will be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. God bless. FAITH – GLENMORE PARK ANGLICAN CHURCH

God’s Megaphone Well known author C.S. Lewis, creator of the Narnia series, did more than write children’s books, he also wrestled with the big issues of suffering and disappointment. Lewis himself experienced pain as he watched his cherished wife die of cancer. This caused him much grief, but he was able to persevere because he never lost his confidence in God. One of his best known quotes was; “Pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers in our pleasures, speaks to us in our conscience, and shouts to us in our pain. It is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” Lewis was explaining that pain is God in his kindness, “shouting” to us that things are not right; the pain we suffer is the consequence of a world gone wrong. Pain and hardship was never God’s plan, but the consequence of a world out of step with God, the result of the fact that each of us has turned our back on the God who loves us, who wants the best for us. Pain is God’s megaphone rousing us to come back him, calling us to Jesus, to follow him, even drawing strength from him in tough times. The Apostle Paul in the Bible’s book of Romans speaks of our world being subject to the “bondage to decay...groaning as in the pains of childbirth.” Paul says how we too “groan inwardly” as we experience this hardship. Paul says to his readers, the answer is not to put our hope in the things of this world which are passing away, but to put our confidence in Jesus, who will keep us with him for eternity. This confident hope, along with prayer to God will enable you to stand firm in all things. Throughout August in our Sunday Church services, as well as our regular weekly events, we’ll be focusing on God’s kindness, and the difference you can experience as you put your confidence in Jesus, knowing that he cares for you. We’d love to see you!

Independent Planning Commission Reject CMCT Cemetery Proposal for Wallacia Golf Club Tanya Davies MP, Member for Mulgoa, would like to thank the IPC for rejecting CMCT’s cemetery application for Wallacia Golf Club. She said from the beginning of the fight that the CMCT’s proposal would destroy the local character and social infrastructure of the Wallacia village. She congratulates the local residents and the Wallacia Progress Association for their commitment and unwavering determination to stop the cemetery proposal. This is the end of the first stage in the process. Tanya is working with all stakeholders to ensure they get a final outcome that will preserve the site in perpetuity for the people of Wallacia. She will continue fighting for the Wallacia community to ensure they protect this land.

The Wollondilly Library has welcomed an additional $53,000 in funding for the new Financial Year as part of an increase in NSW Government subsidies for public libraries. This will bring the total amount of State funding for 2018/19 to close to $185,000 for the Picton based library, enabling improvements to the library collections and services. Wollondilly Library Services Team Leader, Gail Dunn said, “The extra funding will make a huge difference in helping our library to better meet the changing demands of our readers and communities”. “We are currently looking at a strategy for the future of our library service, so this will help support us to develop and implement the strategy to meet the needs of our growing population”. PARENTS CORNER

Article Written + Submitted by: Narelle Smith (Family Worker) Nepean Community + Neighbourhood Services P: 47218520 E: narelle@nepeancommunity.org.au FaceBook: Parenting in Penrith Blog: handsheartsminds.wordpress.com Escalation traps are one of the most common types of parent traps, and involve ‘child escalation’ and ‘parent escalation’. Child Escalation When children want something and don’t get it, they can learn that by escalating in their behaviour or emotions (hitting, crying, whining, nagging) they can get what they want. For example, a child wants a lolly in the supermarket. Although you say ‘no’ the child gets louder and more demanding, and you give in to avoid the fuss and judgement from other people in the store. What is your child learning from this? Parent Escalation When parents want something from their children they can escalate (nagging, shouting) to get the child to complete the task. For example, you want the child to switch off the computer and come to dinner. You ask several times and each time gets louder. You get to the point where you are screaming at your child, counting, or making threats and demands. This is where the parent says “my child never listens to me”. What is your child learning from this? Combination Of Parent And Child Escalation You can have a combination of child and parent escalation. The parent escalates in response to the child’s escalation, and fairly soon tempers are frayed, feelings are hurt, and nothing productive or helpful has been achieved. What are you and your child learning from this? Remedy? Give clear, calm instructions. Stay calm, and follow through, so that your child knows that when you say ‘no’ you mean ‘no’ and when you want something done it gets done within a reasonable time frame without a fuss. And as always, continue to build a strong relationship with your child based on love, nurture and trust, because the strength of the relationship determines how much your child will listen and respond to you. I am back to doing individual parenting work after several months away working in another program. If you are struggling with your parenting, it’s OK to ask for help (it’s free).

Specialists in: Blow Dry/Straight & Curls, Formal Hair/Weddings, Wollondilly Shire Council has welcomed the call for the establishment of a Select Committee that would inquire into and report on the NSW Government’s proposal to raise the Warragamba Dam wall. A Notice of Motion by Independent Member of the Legislative Council, Mr Justin Field seeks to appoint a committee that will investigate conflicting reports on the height for the dam wall raising, and any plans for future property development on flood prone land on the Hawkesbury Nepean Floodplain. The Committee would also look at engagement between the NSW Government and the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in relation to the project and the adequacy of the Environmental Impact Assessment process to date. Mayor Matthew Deeth said, “Wollondilly Council has been vocal in its opposition to the proposed raising of the wall and is concerned about the impact it will have on our national parks, cultural sites and world heritage areas”. “By raising the dam wall by 14 metres, the NSW government says it will reduce flood risk in the Hawkesbury-Nepean valley; but one of the concerns many people have about this is that the wall raising will make it easier for developers to build more and more housing on flood-prone land in Western Sydney”. “Council has been awaiting the release of the Environmental Impact Statement. The establishment of a Select Committee would make sure all the environmental impacts have been thoroughly considered” he said. A United Nations report, released for a recent World Heritage Committee meeting assessing the state of the Blue Mountains’ World Heritage listing, has also raised concerns about the proposed raising of the Warragamba Dam wall. The report highlighted a number of concerns and called on the New South Wales and Australian Governments to send any environmental impact statements before a decision was made about the future of the dam. Joshua’s Eye on the Prize

With his debut race season a success in 2018, Silverdale’s Joshua Car has started this year red hot and is leading the F4 United States Championships after six rounds. The Crosslink/Kiwi Motorsport driver is currently in first place on 113 points in the 2019 Championship Standings, almost halfway into the season. “This year has been going very well. We have done 6 races so far this season in F4. I have finished on the podium in all races this year, claiming victory in Atlanta and another win in Pittsburgh. With this, I am currently leading the F4 United States Championships with 11 races still to go! I have also raced in national level karting in the US and won the first round of the National Karting Championships in California, against 50 other top-level drivers” Joshua told the Mulgoa Valley Gazette. Reflecting on his debut season, Joshua was pleased with how he raced, “I started the year with everything new such as

equipment, techniques to learn and tracks to race, in a much bigger team environment. I ended up claiming 2 wins in 2018 and 4 podiums in the F4 United States Championships”. Whether it’s racing in the US or in Australia, Joshua explained that it comes down to the competition and not necessarily where the track is that makes the difference, “It doesn’t matter where you are racing, it is always really close and competitive. I think the benefits of racing in the US is the ability to show yourself to a bigger market and the scholarships they reward for success. For example, the winner of the F4 United States Championships gets a prize to race Formula 3 the following season. This is the prize I am working very hard for this year”. For now, Joshua is enjoying living life on the other side of the world and he appreciates the opportunities that he is receiving in his racing career in the US. “Life is great in the US. I live in Dallas, Texas with a family who has gifted me this opportunity to race over here. I work a lot on a karting team acting as a driver/coach in between my races and I am constantly travelling around the country. Other than that, I am always training and try to play an active role in my team to help ensure that we have everything we need to win this year’s championships” he said. Joshua’s proud local family continue to support him and watch him follow his dreams, “My husband, daughter and I have been to see Joshua race twice. When we are not there, we have a lot of sleepless nights. We set alarms to watch timing and we then have his team Facebook Live us. We never miss a race” ended Tanya Car, Joshua’s mother. McIntosh Launches Western Sydney Airport Community Bus Tours

Federal Member for Lindsay, Melissa McIntosh MP recently launched the Western Sydney International Nancy Bird Walton Airport Community Bus Tour. Ms McIntosh joined the Western Sydney Airport CEO, Graham Millett and other key stakeholders on the first interactive Airport Shuttle Tour of the Airport site. Western Sydney Airport partnered with South West Community Transport, a not-for-profit organisation and charity to provide the bus and driver for the tours. “Western Sydney is one of Australia’s fastest growing areas. The Western Sydney City Deal, Airport, Rail and road infrastructure will help provide the employment, housing, transport and educational opportunities needed to accommodate growth” said Ms McIntosh. “The airport will support over 11,000 direct and indirect jobs during the construction period and almost 28,000 full-time jobs within five years of opening. Jobs in construction, transport and logistics, retail, hospitality and professional services will be available closer to where people live”. “Western Sydney Airport has set employment targets for local workers to make up at least 30 per cent of the workforce during construction and 50 per cent once the airport is operational. This is a great opportunity, particularly for people in and around Penrith”. Community groups, such as local Probus and Rotary Clubs, who are keen to learn more about the Airport can now register their interest to take a guided bus tour of the airport site. Interested community groups can register their interest at info@wsaco.com.au. U Western Sydney Airport tour | Image Supplied

Latest @ Luddenham by Wayne Willmington A big thanks to Tanya Davies MP, Member for Mulgoa and Gladys Berejiklian, NSW Premier for organising a grant of $9,000 to convert more of our lighting at the Luddenham Showground over to LED. The cheque was handed over at a Community Lunch held last month in Mulgoa. Well done and thank you to Liverpool Council for repairing the footpath on the Northern Road. The footpath has been deteriorating for a few years and it is much better now. Western Sydney International Airport has launched bus tours for groups (at the moment). The first tour was launched by WSA CEO Graham Millett, Melissa McIntosh MP, Federal Member for Lindsay and Local Community FOWSA member Wayne Willmington. Local groups can book a tour at airportshuttletour@wsaco.com.au. The tour is made up of a multimedia presentation and sightseeing, as you go around to selected parts of the airport. The NSW Government proposes to build a new TAFE campus in the Aerotropolis, to deliver specialised training in fields like construction carpentry, electrical and plumbing. The new campus will be located close to the Western Sydney Airport. The capacity for the campus is 3,500 enrolments, assuming 700 apprentices per year. The estimated cost is $79.6 million. Sydney Metro Greater West is carrying out early site investigations. This work is part of early planning work to help develop the project design of the Sydney Metro Greater West, the new metro railway line which will service Greater Western Sydney and the new Western Sydney International (NancyBird Walton) Airport. The new railway will include stations at the airport, Western Sydney Aerotropolis and St Marys – where customers can connect with the rest of Sydney’s

existing suburban rail network. This line will pass through parts of Luddenham and we understand there will be a station in the Science Park, however, not sure if there will be any other stations in Luddenham. August is the month of Annual General Meetings. The Progress Association’s meeting is on Wednesday 7th at 8:00pm in the Hall. Anyone that lives in Luddenham is welcome to attend and become a member (new members welcome). On Wednesday the 14th at 8:00pm at the Showground, the Show Society will hold its AGM. Once again, new members are welcome, and membership is available to residents of the district (not just Luddenham). If you have an opinion on what Luddenham of the future should be like, please email your thoughts or views to willmingtons@bigpond.com.

Celebrating 100 Fabulous Years with Beryl Warragamba resident Beryl Scott celebrated her 100th birthday at the Warragamba Workers Club on July 27th with 100 of her closest friends and family. Mrs. Scott’s family travelled from all over Australia for the very special celebration. Beryl was born at Rockdale in New South Wales on the 25th July 1919 and was one of seven children. In 1941, she set off on a working holiday around Australia and the first stop was as a waitress in Bargo. Whilst working there, she met Herb Scott. Needless to say, that was the end of her working adventure and the start of a marriage that lasted almost 50 years. Beryl and Herb moved to Warragamba in 1947 with their twin sons Robert and John, as Herb worked on the construction of the Warragamba Dam. Soon after, they had another son Stephen, followed by a daughter Susan. Beryl has 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Beryl still lives in the family home of 72 years. She enjoys bingo at the local club on Tuesdays, senior citizens on Wednesdays and playing euchre at the neighbourhood cottage. Y Happy 100th Birthday Beryl Scott | Image Supplied by Sue Tyszkiewicz

HEALTH MATTERS

Article Written + Submitted by: Andreas Klein Nutritionist + Remedial Therapist from Beautiful Health + Wellness P: 0418 166 269

Why People who exercise may respond better to treatment (Part 1)! Working with so many patients over the years allows one a chance to observe different types of patients. One of the things this has highlighted for me is that more often than not people whose jobs involve exercise tend to have less painful muscles that respond sooner to remedial treatments than sedentary people. Sedentary people still respond, just less rapidly. Of course, exercise is one of many factors influencing response rate. Mental stress, or poor diet or drugs can alter tissue response rate, as can excessive-exercise or relative overexercise for people with poor fitness levels, all leading to poorer recovery. Nevertheless, sedentary people often respond a little more slowly. Why? One reason is tissue detox efficiency via lymphatics. Lymph vessels help remove tissue waste products via the liver & kidneys. However, they don’t have a heart to pump lymphatic fluid. Rather they rely on tiny muscles surrounding each lymph vessel which all contract in a coordinated way to pump lymph, and then on skeletal-muscle contractions from exercise to superboosts lymph flow. Being sedentary (low muscular activity) much reduces flow.

For example, at rest, 2/3 of leg lymph-flow comes from smooth-muscles lining lymph vessels, just 1/3 comes from incidental leg-muscle contractions. Studies show that a person when: 1. asleep, has very low ankle lymph flow, just 0.24 ml/hour. 2. standing increases ankle lymph flow 13 times. 3. fast walking, increases ankle lymph flow 15 times Contracting skeletal muscles (exercises) support tissue cleansing by pumping toxin laden lymph, newly made by tissue cells, along the lymphatic vessels and away from the tissues. People who don’t exercise regularly still produce a reasonable amount of metabolic tissue waste but don’t have the benefit of the wonderful flushing effects that continual muscle contraction and relaxation provides. So, their tissues tend to have much poorer waste & toxin removal. Many of these waste products irritate muscle and its nerve cells producing pain signals, sometimes even to light touch. This should make it easy to see why muscles with reduced daily waste & toxin removal may feel much more painful and have more trouble healing.
