Mulgoa Idol 2010 Anzac Day evening was Mulgoa Idol night with entertainment from the Mulgoa Road Jazz Band and local talent. Miles Stepniewski, from Mulgoa, and Jonathan Dunn won this presigious award with a comedy piano duet of the Hungarian Rhapsody which turned into a very entertaining duel!

Another cemetary planned for Greendale Residents in Greendale, Wallacia and Bringelly are very concerned about the proposal to to build a multi denominational cemetary with 70,000 graves, a crematorium, a flower shop and a cafe. The site is on Greendale Road between Wallacia and Bringelly.

Church Membership, Gym Membership and Soul Rest It’s often surprised me when people say, ‘I believe in God and Jesus but I don’t want to go to church.’ I guess people’s reasons are complex, but perhaps some think of church membership like I think of gym membership.

I know all about gym membership now: it’s expensive, it’s painful, it’s hard to keep going and I’ll end up regretting the day I thought such commitment was a good idea!

I got my act together. I walked regularly for 12 months, lost more than 10 kg. and bought the right clothes. Surely I was ready (and worthy) to join a gym. I joined the gym but hated it. It hung over me like a gloomy cloud. I ate more because I was depressed about not going to the gym. I ate more because I was depressed about the $24 per week disappearing out of my bank account and into the gym. I felt worse about myself. Those lost kilos found me again (and brought some friends).

Do you feel that you must get your act together before going to church? Start some spiritual exercise (doesn’t the Bible have something to do with that). Lose some spiritual kilos (stop doing this, start doing that). Get the right clothes.

Become ready (and worthy) to join a church.

But church is so different! No one can get their act together to be worthy of God, let alone joining His church. He pays the membership. Everyone is there on the same entry ticket - the death of God’s Son Jesus. Sure some people know their way around the building and the routine better than others, but that happens after just a couple of weeks.

Jesus said, ‘Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you

and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.’ Matthew chapter 11 verses 28 to 30 (NIV).

Softball Success

Cross country Success

Taylah has recently been awarded a scholarship from the Australian Institute of Sport to further develop her training. She already trains every day and is playing a winter comp in North Taylah Tsitsikronis Sydney. Taylah comes from a sporting family and her mother, Annette, coaches several softball teams.

Congratulations to the students from Holy Family School who represented at the recent Parramatta Diocesan Cross Country Carnival. A group of 40 students competed in distances from 2kms to 3kms.

The performance of all students was outstanding and the level of fair play towards other competitors was lovely to see. We have two students Jay Kirk (8/9 yrs boys) and Jack Hoban (12yrs boys) progressing to the next round at the Combined Catholic Primary Schools Carnival.

In other news at Holy Family School our newly refurbished classrooms are open and being used by our Kindergarten and Stage 3 students. The new rooms are bright and inviting spaces for learning and the teachers and students are enjoying exploring their new surroundings.

The new 450 seat hall is progressing well and is pictured here with the school principal Mr Tim Vane-Tempest. There will be more details about the school’s development next month.

Policeman of the Year The Wallacia/Mulgoa Valley Rotary Club are supporting the St Mary’s Rotary Police Officer of the Year Award.

The award offers the community the opportunity to show appreciation for the valuable work of police officers.

Smartstart4Kids is a new innovative play therapy centre for preschoolers recently opened in Penrith. It is unique in its approach as it caters for small group sessions (1 hour) of only six children at a time.

Warragamba Baptist Church held its annual Mother’s Day Breakfast where 43 local mothers were served a delicious breakfast by the men of the Church. They were entertained by the Barbershop Quartet “Silver Fox”. Local identity Barrie Burns is the Tenor in this group and they sang some of the lovely old songs as well as “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”. They concluded their entertainment with “The Irish Blessing”.

There were some great acts including singing, dancing, a magician, a young soccer player with some impressive football skills and a guest appearance from Johanna Hemara, our Silverdale superstar and her daughter, Bianca.

The funds raised are for student scholarship for the Fijian island of Tavenui wher attending school is just not possible for many children.

Ron Fort 25.3.1950 - 3.5.2010 Local real estate agent Ron Fort passed away suddenly on the 3rd May. Ron had lived in Mulgoa for 27 years and was a large personality who was well respected in the community.

He had just celebrated his 60th birthday and loved living in Mulgoa and being part of the community.

He is sadly missed by his wife Sue, his daughter Natalie and her husband Paul, his son Steven and his wife Kerri. Ron dearly loved his three grandchildren Gemma, Ainsley and Oscar.

His family and his many friends and colleagues will also miss him.

Warragamba JRLFC Warragamba Junior Rugby League Football Club Inc. was given a grant to construct a mini football field at Warragamba Sportsground. The club relied on the generosity of a lot of local people and businesses to make the project a reality.

Federal Funding Wollondilly Shire Council has recently received the second round of funding from the Federal Government under the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program.
