Hello D42W! It’s nice to be back as division news editor, I can’t wait to see how this term unfolds. School is coming to an end, summer is approaching, and I can’t wait to reach that freedom. My plans are to do some summer reading (I’m open to book suggestions), knitting, and drawing on my spare time. What about you? I’m so excited to have more in person events and I can’t wait to meet more people within our division. Hope you guys like the newsletters <3!!

Yoo what’s good butterflies!! I’m Natalie, and I’m your new Assistant D42W News Editor :D This school year has been quite a hectic one for me; especially being the first year back after distance learning. However, as this year comes to an end, summer is right around the corner!! I’m looking forward to what summer may bring me, like running in super hot weather, a possible summer job, and helping make newsletters like this one ofc hehehe. I wish the best end of the school year and summer for all of y’all :) Take care D42W ^-^

Upcoming events: 06/05: JUNE DCM :D 1-3 pm @ Dunkirk Park 06/05: Articles & Visuals due @ 6 pm

This event was May DCM where Key Clubs from different schools came together to get to know one another. We all got there and talked about the information on google slides that was sent out, played an icebreaker, recognized the presidents (wore a crown), and hung out and ate. The members of Buena Key Club feeling about the May DCM was that it was an amazing opportunity to get to know everyone. Especially during the icebreaker we had to get in groups with people we didn’t know in which we all met different people. It was an enjoyable experience and fun.

Our Key Club Co- President Aylin attended this months DCM! She had so much fun getting to see and meet all the key clubs. It was a great experience for her. She even got the meet Mari the butterfly and hopes to see her once again. Overall she enjoyed attending and hopes to be able to attend more in the future. Our key club met on Friday for officer elections. The candidates were all good and read to present the club members with their speeches. Everyone was enthusiastic to vote for the new cabinet and the candidates were excited and nervous. The members gave their vote and elected our new cabinet for the 2022-2023 term! The new cabinet is ecstatic and ready to do new and big things for the next term!

The first DCM of the new term was a success! The presidents arrived at Oxnard Beach Park early in order to set up for the main event. During the main event which took place from 1pm-4pm, all the schools participated in an ice-breaker in order to better acquaint themselves with their new peers. After the ice-breaker, the groups moved onto the meeting where Division Leadership Applications were discussed, and awards were presented to clubs who had excellent service. The best part was naming our division mascot “Mari”, the cutest butterfly. Overall, the vibes were nice and the food was delicious, it was a great way to start off the year. Sadly, I was personally unable to attend the meeting, but everyone who went told me they had a great time.

On April 30, Pacifica had the opportunity to volunteer at the Lego League Event held in Camarillo. Members were able to sign up for multiple shifts running from 6:30am up until 5:30pm that involved setting up the event, registering teams, serving lunch, and cleaning up. I arrived at 1:30 and was the only member that showed from Pacifica. I spent the majority of my time serving lunch and cleaning up with members from Rio Mesa. Packing things away was more enjoyable since it actively kept me busy while serving lunch was dependent on whether people were hungry. We made a total of around $70 from serving lunch which went to the event coordinators. Overall, I had tons of fun talking to people from other clubs and getting to know them!

The Beach Clean up event is one of our clubs most enjoyable events located in Ventura. This monthly event has helped our volunteers help our community in an impactful way. In the event volunteers help remove litter left on the beach such as cigarettes, fast food trash, and anything harmful that would be left out. Members can work together and go in groups to roam the beach and spot out any trash. This event not only helps our beaches become clean but also gives out team bonding and enjoyment time at the beach. For myself I love helping my community so with helping out with a beach clean up I felt excited and helpful where I helped clean up trash using buckets to fill it up with trash.

In May, we held the first DCM event in a while! This was a social for 8 other key clubs for an opportunity to get hours and a chance to bond with other members. At the event, they played building games, went over old business and new business, and gave out awards. In the picture we have kids from eight different Key Clubs. Some being our very own, Rio Mesa, Channel Islands, Buena, Pacifica, and more. This was, from what I heard, a great bonding experience and a way to get to know the other members. We will for sure be attending any other upcoming ones.
