Hiya D42W! Can you feel the cozy season nearing? It’s time to start layering and getting used to that cold breeze in the air. I don’t know about you, but for me this is the best time of the year. School has picked up, but the holidays makeup for any stress. This school year’s first quarter is coming to an end soon… I wish everyone good luck on finishing off strong, I know I need it :’). Remember to start studying for finals early on and take breaks! Grades don’t dictate your worth, make sure to prioritize your health over any classes. Make sure to check out our last few pages for some suggestions to help you get your spooky on >:). Happy Halloween everybody <3

Hey Division 42 West! AHHHHHHHHH \0o0/

It’s

spooky

season

time!

It’s the almost the end of 2021, can you believe that? This year went by so fast. Did you make any goals for this year, and how far along are you on those goals? This time of the year has always been my favorite part of the year because of all of the holidays and break from school. Speaking of school, how is it going so far. The transition from online classes to in person classes has not been smooth for me. If it is the same for y’all make sure to always take a break! Sometimes it’s healthy to take a break and take time for yourself. Anyways, do y’all have any plans for Halloween? If you’re gonna go out during Halloween, don’t forget to stay safe! Happy Halloween Butterflies! :))

Buena is being recognized as club of the month. They have been bringing in amazing service hours and continue to remain a strong standing club. Their officers have been doing a great job of working together on submissions and are always more than willing to reach out when they need help. It serves them well having a president who is on our dlt and relays important information to them.

Emily Gomez from Ventura Key Club is always willing to do anything for the key club proving her great dedication to the club. She also came up with a great community service idea to have a park clean up and she is a great recruiter, always pushing members to join key-club to expand in growth.

Mckayla Dunne from Oxnard Key Club is always willing to help in any way she can. Mckayla was present at freshman and sophomore orientation where she was able to guide incoming students and talk about key-club a bit to encourage them to join. She also helped recruit new members to keyclub in an event at OHS called o-town-bash. She even walked around with a poster board while encouraging people to join and get informed about key-club.

Ms. Cordes has been helpful to Channel Islands Key Club by providing new service project ideas as well as fundraising opportunities for their club and she is appreciated because of this at Channel Islands Key Club. Ms. Cordes also has been of great aid to Oxnard Key Cub because she's always there for all members and in most recent days she’s been of great help to freshman and sophomores during their orientation.

Ms.Taylor reaches out to the officers to schedule meetings and she really does her best to participate in the success of the meetings and overall with staying updated and her room is always available for meetings. Buena officers really appreciate her input when discussing at meetings as well.

Tracy Hoang is being recognized as DLT officer of the month She has always been the embodiment of the spirit of ley club and she continues to shine through a virtual term. She has already rang in spirit with some cheers she is coming up with for our tentative fall rally! I’m truly proud of Tracy’s resilience and unmatched spirit.

Buena’s Key Club just recently had their club day in which they received several new members sign ups which is a goal that has been this year. The members of our club has increased by a significant amount. We have advertised our club previously in the schools morning announcements which most likely boosted the amount of members. Other plans to increase the amount of members would include hanging colorful posters around campus to appeal to a variety of students who work to help the community. Tomorrow, we’ll have our first official club meeting including the officers and new members in which we’ll provide delicious goods such as pizza to welcome our new members and guests. This event will take place in a different room on campus since a new advisor volunteered to sponsor Buena’s Key Club.

This month our club members were participating in some of our ongoing service projects that include Pause For, Shave the Day, and Charity Miles. Members were participating in service projects this whole month as well as all year long. Pause For, Shave the Day, and Charity Miles are some of the long term ongoing service projects that have been highly successful with our members. Our members are constantly active and participating when it comes to these service projects. Members are earning their service hours while playing games using Shave the Day, going outside for Charity Miles, and putting their phone on pause for Pause For. These ongoing service projects have been incredibly successful among our members and we hope to continue to thrive in them.

For September, Oxnard Key Club held a school supplies drive. With the start of a new school year, some students find themselves unable to afford new stationary and struggle because of it. So, we held a supplies drive to provide the help and support our peers may need. An hour was granted for every 5 pieces of supplies donated, such as pencils, pens, and notebooks, with a maximum of 5 hours available. We also continued our ongoing projects: Charity Miles, Pause For, and Free Rice. Shout out to the members that have continuously contributed to Charity Miles -we've reached over 19,000 miles!

Pacifica is starting to plan in-person meetings that are coming up towards the end of September! With a week-long club rush and the school news show giving PHS Key Club the opportunity to publicize the club and obtain new members, we have started to prepare for ideas no longer through a screen. With school and other volunteering events opening up, we are able to host meetings, fundraisers and service events IN PERSON! Although that is all fun for the school, not only members can see the club as an individual high school, but they can also become exposed to the divisions, districts and regions that the vast club proudly offers. Can’t wait!

Santa Clara announced that Key Club will be a new club in their school. In the same month they also had their first in person meeting of the term! A lot of students from Santa Clara are really excited to participate in Key Club and many are willing to sign up as a member. Throughout the month Santa Clara has gathered 25 new keyclubbers and are expecting to recruit more in the upcoming months!

For the Month of August we held our first meeting on campus and one meeting on September 7. We discussed on going club events and an introduction to what key club is. Club day will be September 10 where we will be recruiting members and hopefully primarily freshmen. The officers also held a meeting to brainstorm service events and one planned service event is Santa Beautiful for October 17 where members will do a clean up around our city. We are currently planning more activities but right now our focus is recruitment. Other upcoming events are fundraisers to pay for memberships, we plan on doing a garden market tick sale and each ticket is $11.50 which will all go to paying dues.

On September 25th our members attended the annual Region Training Conference. During the conference we had time to also do our DCM with D42E! We all had so much fun during the two conference!

On September 25th we had our annual Region Training Conference with Division 42 East and Division 24/29. This year’s theme was arts & craft theme! Due to safety measures we had the conference on Zoom this year, but it was still full of fun! After, we also had our DCM with Division 42E.

We started our Key Club journey this school year by having meetings with the officers and recording announcement for the school. On club day, 88 students signed up and we met our new advisor, Mrs. Harris, on that same day. It was certainly difficult trying to adjust from a virtual to an in-person meeting. One of our main worries was not having enough members at our first meeting, but we managed to have over 70 students attend.

During the conference, our members learn more about Key Club, managing stress, and college applications for those planning to go to college. Many of our members and officers attend Thank you to those that attended!
