November DCM November 16, 2016 November’s DCM was amazing and I’m glad to see all clubs attend! I loved hearing the Presidents’ Reports because the old business and new business events sounded amazing. Chris did a wonderful job presenting the award to SECTA and talk about the Dance Marathon that is in March. I am thankful for the advisors and clubs for coming to this event to support Division 28 South! Jasmin’s halfway term speech was very emotional. I am so proud of what Jasmin has accomplished so far. L-O-V-E I love my D-I-V! - Hailey Juan, DNE

Fall Rally South Recap. My favorite part about Fall Rally South was… 

“being able to spend time with friends, and seeing all the different divisions and how spirited everyone was!” - Jing Yin, Coronado

“hanging out with other divisions, especially with our district. I am proud to be a key club officer and I hope to go again in the future! Key Club gave me a sense of pride in being apart of Key Club. - Jasmine Mortero, Coronado

“the free hugs because I love how everyone is just so open. Even though I barely knew the people who offered free hugs, I felt like we were all best friends!” - Bettina Bautista, Coronado

Service Recap. Zombie Run - October 22, 2016

My first time attending the Zombie Run, and I must say that I had a great time! It was however very far and on my way there my ride and I got lost so that wasn't a great time, but we somehow managed to get there on time. While we were there we first had the makeup artists help us look more like zombies rather than sleep-deprived teenagers, then we started helping out with the setup. We also drew on the sidewalks with chalk which I haven't touched in years and then did what we all came their to do, SCARE PEOPLE! I had a lot of fun there not only with our key club but with our buddies, Coronado Key Club as well. I need to say that I did feel a little discomfort when the few runners smacked my hands away when I tried to grab their flags but overall had a great time! I am honestly excited to do this again next and hoping it'll be a bit closer.  Philipp Penalber, 11, Green Valley

Service Recap. John C. Bass Elementary School’s Halloween Bootacular Carnival | Liberty By Mary Bayot On October 27th, students from Liberty High School’s Key Club and National Honor Society joined hands to assist John C. Bass Elementary School in hosting its’ Halloween festival. The fun-filled event lasted from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM, with parents and their children staying as long as they could to participate in all the games and activities the carnival had to offer. Preparations for the festival began early, and the staff worked vigorously to create an enjoyable environment for the children. Students from both clubs maintained and supervised the games while handing out pieces of candy and prizes to the winners. Help was also provided in serving hot dogs, popcorn, and cotton candy – the perfect meal. However, this carnival will forever be ingrained into my memory after experiencing the haunted house. I was under the impression that because it was smaller than most haunted houses, it would not scare me. I was severely wrong. In under a minute, the students and volunteers were able to push me to tears. This was my first time in helping out during a festival, and I found it to be vastly fulfilling. Seeing the creative and unique costumes the kids were clad in filled me with nostalgia of my childhood. Despite the difficulty in setting up the games and the booths, the interactions I was able to have with the children and their parents for the next four hours made me grateful that I picked this event to attend. While I cleaned up with my peers at the end of the night, I only thought about wanting to repeat the day.

Service Recap. Tomiyasu Halloween Carnival | SECTA Working the Halloween Carnival at Tomiyasu was a fun experience. We helped out and made a lot of memories. I had so much fun, especially, setting up and working the haunted house. A lot of the people there really enjoyed it so was so great to see not just kids, but adults enjoying themselves! I also helped out with bingo, which at first didn't seem it would be all that exciting but it turned out to be a fun time. The crowds for the games became bigger and bigger and it was so nice to see the kids win prizes that they had come in wanting. Seeing all the booths, costumes, and prizes made me a little nostalgic about the carnivals we’d have at my elementary school and how much I enjoyed them. Overall, I just really liked seeing the festivity everywhere and knowing that we helped to create that. Everyone that we worked with and everyone that helped us was also very kind, so I'm glad we could all happily work together for the community. In addition, Working with fellow key clubbers also made us closer in general. We all got to know each other much better and share laughs together. With that came new friendships, which makes us stronger as a club. - Neith Pereira

Service Recap. College Door Decorating | SECTA Teachers were once students too, so to acknowledge that Key Clubbers were able to participate in decorating the doors of our educators. The doors were decorated according to the college teachers attended showing appreciation for colleges throughout the country. Colleges ranged from our very own University of Nevada Las Vegas to colleges on the east coast. Volunteering Key Clubbers stayed after school to participate and were given a teacher and their respected college. From there, they had to use their imagination to create a door that showed off the greatness of the school. Students could have used the college’s mascot, a painting of the school itself, and anything iconic that represents the college. As students worked together they used various paints on huge butcher paper that would be taped onto their teacher’s door. Trying to create the best poster they could possibly produce, students worked in their own little groups considering the fact that having more creative input is better. Key Club was working alongside other clubs at Southeast Tech such as Student Council and Crossfit. Despite being different clubs, students worked in harmony helping each other decorate amazing doors for the equally amazing teachers. In the end, students produced beautiful doors for the teachers and Key Club was able to gain $150 because of our dedicated members participating. - Kiarra Talampas

Key Club Week!

Week of Kindness Week of Kindness | November 7-11 This week was Key Club Week and SECTA Key Club really made sure to pack a punch with the amount of events for this week. We started with putting up sticky notes with positive and uplifting messages on all the lockers. We had a lot of recognition from teachers and students saying they appreciate what we were doing. Next we had our Bake Sale for UNICEF which was a huge success! This was the first bake sale at SECTA in a long time so we really made sure that this was going to turn out well. I was so proud to see all of our members baking for this cause and volunteering to help sell at both lunches. We made about $220 which saves about 150 lives. Then on the last day of this week we did Kandy for Kindness. We made small bags of Halloween candy and gave it to our members. We told them that whenever they saw someone do something nice to give them a piece of candy. This was also really fun and it really advertised Key Club to the rest of the school. I am so proud of our members and our club and really appreciate what we did this week. Thank you all! - Adam Nader, SECTA
