What’s up, Orcas? I can’t believe this term flew by just like that! With it coming to an end, I have been able to reflect on our growth overall, and I am so proud of you all! To the very end of our term together, you guys have released fundraisers, service projects, and worked on membership recruitment with all of your might. Keep up the great work as always, Orcas! It has been an honor to serve you, grow as a leader, and have a truly unique experience :) Thank you to each and every one of you for everything that you do, we see and appreciate even the “tiniest” things. Good luck on your future endeavors and I hope I can still sea you around <3

Howdy, Orcas! This is my final newsletter! It’s crazy, but in just a few weeks I will be your Lieutenant Governor! My experience as Division News Editor has been nothing but phenomenal, and I appreciate everyone who has made this experience so enriching and fun! To all of the seniors, thank you all for contributing to Key Club throughout your high school journey. Even if you didn’t join until later, we appreciate all that you’ve done! Good luck out there in college or wherever life takes you :)

San Dieguito Key Club member Keala volunteering in a charity drive

On the 17th of February Keala decided to take part in a charity drive. This charity drive was called the “Miracle Birth Diaper Drive” which consisted of a few members setting up a table in a parking lot and distributing necessary resources to mothers in need. These resources included Diapers, wipes, talcum powder and a few other necessities. This drive was especially important to Keala because she understood that during this pandemic income was tight and obtaining the necessary resources to raise a baby was difficult. A lot of single mothers showed up to collect the necessary resources for their kids and it was a huge success. Thank you Keala for dedicating your time to helping our community grow and care for one another. Keep up the great work! Alex Philyaw

CARLSBAD

On Saturday, March 27, Division 37 West, South, and East joined forces for an exciting final DCM of the term! The flower shop themed DCM was filled with opportunities for divisions to intermingle. After we finished updates for D37W, we had a service project where we created letters for Kiwanians! We hope everyone who attended had a blast! Click HERE for the slideshow!

Thank you Ms. Hamamoto, Mr. Klein, Ms. Lumabas, Mrs. Brian, and Mr. De Anda for being our chaperones!

10 | March DCM Recap

Ceylon Wargo Carlsbad, President Having two in person meetings and just being able to feel some sort of normalcy while being safe. It gave me something good out of my senior year. My position has helped me grow by becoming better at communication with others, though I am still working on it, it has improved.

Joshua Bowe-McLeod El Camino, President My favorite moment from this term was our first beach cleanup at the beginning of the year. In addition to the great turnout, it was our first time meeting in person in months and the positive energy and enthusiasm in the entire group was exceptionally tangible. My position has helped my grow by teaching me how to be autonomous and not only follow through on responsibilities delineated to me from others but also by giving myself tasks that I need to figure out on my own.

Emeline Oropeza Guajome Park, President Throughout this term, the moments that I enjoyed most was successfully recruiting approximately 7 new members, who all had been eager to join the club and learn what it contains. I as well enjoyed viewing the increase in member participation during my club’s meetings and getting to see so many new faces eager to go straight for an officer position on their first year in Key Club. My position has helped me grow as a person over the years for it has taught me how to effectively organize club meetings, events, and how to make pretty slideshows hahah! I now know what it takes to be a leader, and I am now familiar with the many obstacles and successes that can come out of leadership.

Austin Wood Mission Vista, President My favorite moments have always been when serving the community, even if this year was virtual. Being able to socialize and meet new people while giving my time for a greater cause has turned out to be a great combination which brings me immense personal satisfaction. My position has forced me to grow in more ways than one, but likely the most notable thing is my communication. Trust me when I say that every great moment I've had in this club required communication- so to continue having those moments I've continued to communicate!

11 | DLT & Prez Final Remarks

Ryan Woodall North County Trade Tech, President My favorite moment was with my first interclub in December with Mission Vista, Vista, and one other club. We had a great time cracking jokes while making thank you cards. This position has helped me by sticking me in situations where I have to react fast with a calm mind. For an example, I wasn’t originally the president, I was VP, and I was informed at some point that I was now president and had a bit of backloging.

Jed Quiaoit Rancho Buena Vista, President & Recognition Coordinator Honestly, my favorite moments are the times in DCMs whenever we unleash our creativity in decorating cards via aggie.io and play icebreaker games. In other words, I love almost every instance where we build community within our Key Club family! My position as Recognition Coordinator greatly helped me grow because it emphasized the beauty of appreciation and acknowledging the hard work each and every one of you guys do!

Luis Aceves Rancho Buena Vista, Spirit Coordinator My favorite from this term was our very first DCM. I was able to see the importance of other Key Clubbers getting together and putting effort into their community despite the pandemic.

Nadia Razzaq Sage Creek, Executive Assistant My favorite moments have all come from our DCM meetings! I have gotten the opportunity to meet so many people and guide projects and activities. My favorite was definitely the December DCM :).

12 | DLT & Prez Final Remarks

Jackie Torres Sage Creek, Executive Assistant FaceTiming Aria, Nadia, and Isabel until midnight and listening to vibey songs that gave me main character vibes. I learned to collaborate a lot more with my peers and went out of my friend circle

Jackson Duong Sage Creek, Technology Coordinator My favorite moments from this term was got to be meeting a bunch of new lasting friends within my DLT as well as my home club. However, my singular favorite moment from this term is definitely when I cracked an egg on my head during the Marvel TC. My position in DLT has taught me a lot about being team player. I learned to be a lot less shy and more energetic when talking to people. I loved having the opportunity of being a part of such an amazing division and I will cherish all the wonderful memories and experiences that I have gained from Key Club and Division 37W over the past 4 years of my high school career.

Emily Yurkevich San Dieguito, President I loved being able to recruit people to Key Club during my school's club fairs since I learned how deeply our members care about their communities since they were truly interested in opportunities for service, even during a pandemic. I also liked meeting people from other clubs during the DCMs and learning about things, especially the Thirst Project. My positions have helped me grow by making me a more active member of both my school and the larger community since they motivate me to reach out to others more.

Anika Hume Tri-City Christian, Co-President & Spirit Coordinator My favorite moments from this term have been working behind the scenes to out on bigger events. This makes each DCM and other event more exciting and special seeing all the hard work being done. My position has helped me realize that, as a leader, it is okay to ask for help and get other people’s opinions on things. Being a leader does not mean doing everything by yourself, and this position gave me the chances to realize this.

13 | DLT & Prez Final Remarks

Jacob Larose Tri-City Christian, Co-President My favorite moment was probably when we were actually able to have an in person service event for our schools church and being able to work with friends there. This position has certainly taught me a lot about leadership and what it means to be in charge of so many great people.

Isabel Carreon Vista, President & Executive Assistant My favorite moment from this term was having productivity calls with the DLT and Presidents because I got some good laughs and made new friends. In my leadership positions I learned to manage by time and improvise during this pandemic.

All of the amazing DLT members from the 2020-2021 term are going to be retiring, and so DLT applications will be coming once the next term starts! If you are interested in getting involved with Key Club, becoming a better leader, and meeting new Key Clubbers, you should apply and use your skills to help the division!
