WHAT’S SPLASHIN’ ORCAS!

You all put the KILL in Killer Whales at Fall Rally because WOW we dominated. Getting to the final round has NEVER happened before, so you can say we made history! This term is monumentous because of all your efforts! Aside from Fall Rally, all you seniors know UC and CSU applications are in!! The weight lifted of my shoulders is crazy and now I can finally catch up on the sleep and homework that I have been putting off.

Even though Fall Rally passed, make sure you stay active in Key Club as there are still a ton of events and opportunities to participate in! Especially to our underclassmen as CTC is just around the quarter. I want to have a TON of candidates who want to run for LTG, so don’t be afraid to push yourself! Anyway, keep being awesome and enthusiastic orcas so we can say we put the W in D37 West!!

L-O-V-E I LOVE OUR D-I-V!

Orcas, you did amazing at Fall Rally South. That was the first time in our division’s history that we ever made it to the THIRD ROUND at Fall Rally. You should give yourself a pat on the back for essentially making it to the D37W Hall of Fame. Be proud that future orcas are going to look back on our term and remember that we made history and hopefully inspire them to be winners at Fall Rally. (Maybe at FRS 2023?) Look forward to a FRS Recap later in this newsletter!

Other than FRS, we’ll be recapping on your amazing service opportunities you participated in during the months of October and November. We’ll also be reviewing the November DCM, which also served as our final spirit session before Fall Rally.

On the 29th of October, we partnered up with El Camino High School and Vista High School for an interclub! It was called “Spooking for Service” and we had a Halloween theme where we created candy bags and left notes in them. They willbedeliveredtoachildren’shospitalwherechildrencanenjoythefestivitiesof Halloween without traditional trick or treating. The materials were brought by El Camino’s secretary, and so we were able to make 40 spooky designed candy bags with an even amount of candy and a handwritten note in each.At this event, we held an egg race, played “steal the bacon” using an orca, and other fun games in order for all of the members to enjoy activities that helped them socialize and intermingle. Our sponsoring Kiwanis advisors, Mr. and Mrs. Hall also attended the event as chaperones where they watched over our activities and even helped us out a bunch! The interclub was held right before the spirit session so a lot of people were able to attend it. We are deeply looking forward to working with other clubs more in the future to get closer with the rest of the divisionandbuildmorefriendships!

Monte Vista Fall Festival

On Oct 28, 2022 Key Clubbers from Rancho Buena Vista volunteered at Monte vista Elementary’s fall festival. We helped run the halloween themed booths, for example there was a ring toss but instead of trying to get the ring on a cone you tried to get it on a witch’s hat! We also helped run the cake walk which had manydeliciousgoodies!Additionallywegaveoutcandytotheattendees.Itwas such a fun experience to see all the halloween costumes the kids dressed up in. It was so rewarding to make them smile with the games we played. At the end of the festival we helped clean up all the trash, tents, and decorations. The night wasfulloflaughterandeveryonewasinthespoooookyspirit!

Alta Vista Gardens

On Oct 15, 2022 students from Rancho Buena Vista’s key club volunteered at the Alta vista Botanical gardens. The Alta Vista gardens have an annual fall festival, thestudentshelpedcleanupthegardens before this festival. It was super fun helping clean up the gardens and being surroundedbynature!

Fall Fest

On the 14th of October, a Friday night at Mission Vista was filled with festive decorations, delicious food, and even a bouncy house. Every year, MVHS hosts Fall Fest, an exciting event to attend because it is held on the day of midterms, meaning it is a great break to end the term. The Key Club at Mission Vista held a booth at this event selling hot chocolate. Our drink was a hit because by the end of the night, the weather decided to change and we ended up getting

rained on. Many students found safety in our hot chocolate which let us raise money for our club and for lowering FRS costs. This event is always fun to be a part of and last year our Key Club also did a booth. It is great to go to school events because it also lets us spread the word about Key Club and what we stand for. On Friday, we ended up explaining what we do as a club, like how we host community service opportunities and how we get to hang out with other clubs from our division through fun events like Fall Rally or DCM’s. Overall, this event was very successful, and we are excited to work at other school events in the future to spread the word about Kiwanis and our club.

Ding Tea Fundraiser

What's a better way to end your day than with boba?! From October 3rd-5th, El Camino Key Club had a fundraiser at Ding Tea Oceanside. In total, $100 was raised to fund transportation fees for Fall Rally South! Great job Wildcats! Keep up the goodwork!4

Beach Cleanup

This past month our president Amanda Shih participated in a beach cleanup. This is important because we are so lucky to live so close to the beach, so keeping it clean makes it a better place for everyone. Amanda organized other members of the club to take part in a successful beach cleanup where they left the beaches much better than they found them.

It’s Going Down, Orcas! On November 11th, Division 37 West had their November DCM and final practice spirit session before Fall Rally South the next day. After going over several division updates, FRS schedules and logistics, and recognition, Orcas were ecstatic to practice their spirit cheers one final time. Led by Spirit Coordinator Jonah Gathright alongside Lieutenant Governor Asia Chan and Spirit Team Member Jacob Racela, Key Club members screamed their hearts out. They performed specific choreography, from swinging their arms back-and-forth to make a wave to putting their fists in the air, all while ensuring that they don’t lose their voice for the following day at Fall Rally. It’s truly been fun practicing these amazing spirit cheers, Orcas! Thank you so much for working so hard to represent your division in the true, spirited, Key Club way. Now let’s giveitourallatFallRally!

LET’S GO ORCAS! Division 37 West was feeling ecstatic for Fall Rally South 2022. Dedicated as they are, Key Club members started lining up at the Golden Bear Theater an hour early to get the best seats, which they did! Imposing authority with our warmup cheers and our Spirit Coordinators Jonah Gathright and Joseph Molano guiding us with their megaphones, Orcas led the pack by being in the front and center of the theater. As the spirit session began, Orcas were confident to have made it to the 2nd round with their creative Descendants 2 parody spirit cheer along with sportsmanship cheers and signature choreography. Orcas continued to pour their hearts out in their cheers during the 2nd round, knowing very well that due to their smaller size may not make it to the 3rd round. But as District Governor Diane Dao announced the last division to make it to the 3rd round, she said “... DIVISION 37 WEST!” and Orcas were ecstatic and even got emotional. The thought of winning was in their hands, and D37W members underwent another round of the signature “1, 2, 3, 4, Orcas!” spirit cheer. Unfortunately, we did not win, however, we were truly winners because we made history for our division and made a large impact at Fall Rally despite being one of the smaller divisions. This proves that even with small numbers, hard work, creativity, and dedication give the best results. And it’s all thanks to you ORCAS! Thank you so much for attending Fall Rally South 2022 and making it not only an amazing memory but also a legacy for the future members of our division. Future orcas will know the hard work you all put in at FRS 2022 which will inspire them to hopefully be winners. Cheers to FRS 2022 andlet’swinatFRS2023!

Our LTG Asia Chan!

I think of Key Club as a united, collaborative organization that organized and fundraises together for a great cause. Our key club has dramatically increased in the amount of members this year with over 130 Key Clubbers! We have had great turn outs at our meetings so far, and hope to keep it that way. We have been volunteering at the Bayshire Senior Center twice a month since the summer, and also having other volunteer events like our most recent one, Socktober. We made notes and tied socks together to give them to the Carlsbad Mens Shelter. I am looking forward to our next meeting. We will be making handmade snowflakes with encouraging notes and giving them to our teachers and staff. We will also have Crumbl Cookies and music. I like to keep meetings organized, exciting, and inviting to everyone! Key Club has been a great experience for me personally, and I hope to share that passion with my other members, as well.
