SCHOOL’S OUT ORCAS! Finally we are all free from the shackles of 7AM alarms and never ending homework! I hope all of you are proud of yourselves for achieving another year of school (I’m proud of you!!!). So far, I have spent my days lying in bed and catching up on all my lost sleep and have been experiencing a roller coaster of emotions (iykyk). Let’s hope my summer gets better! LOL Anyways, while school might be out, Key Club is always here to stay. Be sure to take advantage of your extra free time and get those community service hours and attend club/division events! Also try to spend time with your loved ones! In one year, I’ll most likely be moving for college so I have to take the chance while I can! Shoutout to Mom! Love you!

Your DNE,

What’s up Orcas? How is your summer so far? I hope you’re looking forward to all of the classic summer activities and new ones too! Take this time to reflect on life and work towards making it better! I encourage you to pick up a new hobby, step outside of your comfort zone, meet new friends, and cherish this summer while it still lasts. I’m learning a new language this summer myself, and I’m trying to read a couple books (because I haven’t sat down to read a book in like 3 years LOL). I hope you are excited for what Key Club has in store for this summer and ready to make this summer one to remember! Please look forward to training conferences, fun DCM’s, events at the beach, and practicing our spirit cheers! In this issue, we will be recapping on what our division has done in May and June, such as our plant-potting DCM and fundraisers held by our clubs! Hope that you all enjoy :)

Hey Orcas! I’m Mia Cruz and I’m your Division Video Editor for the term! Video editing has always been a side hobby that I found interest in. So being lucky enough to have this position has allowed me to grow my knowledge and really test my limits! This term I’m looking forward to all the amazing opportunities that will come for us. So let’s keep working hard Orcas to fulfill our goals, I know I will! ^_^

What’s a better way to end a beach cleanup than with some ice cream? After a hardworking morning at the beach, El Camino Key Club members filled the Fugu Ice Cream & Taiyaki shop, handing out flyers to nearby customers in hopes of encouraging them to support our fundraiser. Thanks to everyone who showed up!

This month, our Key Club sold dumplings at our school's Exhibition Day to raise money for our club and for the Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP). We were able to raise $348.31 in total, with 50% going to PTP, ($174.15) and the other 50% going to support our club budget. After making around 414 dumplings, we would like to call this a big success! We sold out in 20 minutes and plan to sell again in future fairs.

On May 18, 2022 Key clubbers from Rancho Buena Vista High school volunteered at Bobier Elementary’s STEAM festival. There were so many fun ways to teach kids about science and math! One booth was a connect 4 addition and multiplication game, Daniela Vucenic a member of RBV’s key club said she lost 6 times in a row playing connect 4 against the kids, yikes! The students also helped run a floor is lava game and instructed the kids on how to make a replica of ice cream out of paper and pipe cleaners. Additionally students helped run a “car race game” Ready! Set! Go! The students that volunteered got the opportunity to show the kids how fun math, science, and art can be. The festival was full of laughter and excitement!

On a cloudy but cheerful day, Division 37 West held their 2nd DCM of the term at Lake Park in Vista, CA. As the new term kicks in, it was gratifying to see new faces and more people being introduced to Key Club for the first time. This DCM was certainly wild, as Division Spirit Coordinators Jonah Gathright and Joseph Molano organized the game called, “Steal the Bacon,” when selected members had to follow commands such as, “Touch your toes!” or, “Spin around!” until the coordinators declared, “Steal the bacon!” in which adrenaline-filled Orcas raced to steal the “bacon” (The “bacon” being an afro wig) and sprint back to their team. Thereafter, in homage to the phrase, “April showers brings May flowers,” at the DCM, Key Club members were given the service opportunity to plant some flowers! Some of these flowers included Marigolds and Sweet Peas, and members got to decorate their own disposable containers for their own flower. What was a gloomy gray day eventually was turned into a fun and exciting occasion for Division 37 West. DCM’s have been truly exhilarating so far, and we’re certainly looking forward to more.

What’s Poppin’ Division 37 West?! I’m Melody, the Co-President of VHS’s Key Club. The start of this term has been amazing and I truly cannot wait for what’s to come. Working with Sofia is it’s own form of amazing as I could not have asked for a better partner to ensure a welcoming and wonderful space for our members. We have been working with our officers to provide a variety of opportunities to spark everyone’s interest so we can contribute to reaching our division goals. Ranging from beach clean-ups to making kindness cards for our local senior citizens to even sending out interactive surveys for feedback on how to make our club even more inclusive and enjoyable. Vista Key Club cannot wait to bring spirit throughout this term- especially at Fall Rally South!!

Hey Division 37 West! I’m the Co-President of Vista Key Club, and I am so indescribably excited for the rest of this term. Alongside Melody and our amazing officers, we’ve been working to find our own consistency in our club. Finding service, events, activities our members can participate in each month. In all of these categories, our club so far has had a Handel’s Fundraiser, participation at school events like Buddies Prom & city events like the Strawberry Festival. This term, Vista Key Club will bring spirit, kindness & an indescribable amount of coolness. As well as a focus on environmental wellbeing, and immense progress for PTP!
