What’s Splashin’ Orcas? While summer break and classes start, don’t forget to take care of yourself! It is a great time to relax and get some service hours! Take advantage of all the opportunities to serve from home and participate in your club service projects! I’m beyond proud of all the wonderful work you Orcas are doing, whether it’s simply participating in our events or creating your own! Keep up the good work and I hope to see you all soon :)
Howdy Orcas! Hopefully you all are ready for some summer service! Summer break is here and we hope you all are able to get some much needed rest, but still keep up the good work. To all our members taking summer classes, you got this! To all of the amazing Orcas, we hope to see you all virtually at our many upcoming events. Come get some service hours with us and have a blast in the process :) To the DLT, presidents, and all of the officers, you guys have been working hard and showing up despite the pandemic. This summer, let’s continue to do our best!

A Poster with safety tips for Coronavirus and Seat Belt Safety!
Club Spotlight: El Camino El Camino’s officers are always on top of their duties. They are on time and early with all of their submissions. The officers and members of El Camino participated in the Division’s Service Week, including making PSA posters for Coronavirus and Seatbelt Safety. Other activities that El Camino has participated in include writing thank you emails to school faculty, school advisors, and Kiwanis advisors. All of these activities are easy ways to be productive in your community, although that says little about how impactful they are. Despite the simplicity, activities such as making a poster or an Instagram Q&A have the potential to reach someone, by brightening their day or impacting them. El Camino has continued to show that their club is hard working and is ready to participate!

Service Project From July 1st to July 30th at 11:59 PM, we will be having a freerice.com service project mixed with some friendly competition between clubs! Freerice.com is a website where you answer questions and get rice grains. The earning of rice causes ads to appear which help to generate funds that go to feed children and their families. If you’re interested in learning more, check out the website HERE! For every 500 grains of rice you earn, you will receive 1 hour of service. The MAX amount of hours you can get is 10 hours! Please screenshot your personal amount of rice to your club president/ secretary to make your hours count. Regarding the friendly competition, Division 37 West’s clubs will each have their own group code! For each 1,000 grains of rice your club receives, 100 Pod Points will be added (we will round up to the nearest thousand)! This is a great way to increase your club’s Pod Points and get service at the same time!

Service Newsletter We are excited to share the first Service Newsletter! Our Executive Assistant, Isabel Carreon, and I (Kennedy Parker, the Division News Editor) worked to create a newsletter filled with service opportunities! We provided many resources for various different ways to help our community. We featured many fun service projects, like card making or Be My Eyes, that can be done remotely and/or online! Have fun serving, Orcas!

Why do some clubs have so many points? Attendance! Having many members show up for events and contribute to their club’s attendance helps a club earn pod points and appear on the podium! Only dues paid clubs earn points!

On June 20, 2020, We held our June DCM and had an amazing turn out! The attendance was a new record. Our host club, Vista, introduced all the attendees to many service opportunities. They included a variety of websites where you could play games to donate things like playing games on beanbeanbean.com or freerice.com and making physical cards for Chemo Angels that could be donated. The members had a blast chatting and serving! Thank you to Sarah Davis, Jarret Yasuoka, Juli Bachman, Carolyn Brian, Kathy Hamamoto, Michael Klein, and Carolyn Qulam for chaperoning! We greatly appreciate your help!
