What’s Splashin’ Orcas? I hope all is going well for everyone as we jump right into (virtual) school! I’m so so so impressed by all the amazing work we have accomplished this summer! Keep serving Orcas! In fact, I’m so proud to say that our division has reached over 50% of our service hour goal for this whole term!! Congrats Bubbies :) This month, we have a ton of things planned for you all! Take a break and enjoy the fun with us at Region 1.5 Training Conference (maRvelTC) and the several joint events with other divisions! Small reminder though, this is the LAST month to pay any late dues! So, if you’re a suspended club, let’s try to get those dues paid as soon as possible! I’m always here to help!

Howdy Orcas! I hope everyone is doing well and adjusting as we get back into school! As many of us are starting school again virtually, I hope we all can get into the hang of balancing school with Key Club and other extracurriculars! As summer is officially over, the seasons change but our spirit for service will never waver :) Keep serving Orcas, and I hope to see you all at our DCMs this month!

Two of the cards created for the Coloring Pages project!

Club Spotlight: Carlsbad has been working hard and showing up to serve! Many members from Carlsbad Key Club participated in July’s Freerice service event, in which they earned 3rd place in the division! In addition, Carlsbad has been working on many service projects, like their Coloring Pages project. The Coloring Pages project was where members drew coloring pages to be donated to children at the Ronald McDonald house in San Diego! Carlsbad Key Club’s members and officers have been doing great work and helping their community tremendously!

What Is PTP? The Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) is a program created by Kiwanis to help children with pediatric trauma and work to prevent it. Pediatric trauma is a common cause of injury in children, although it is often preventable. The Pediatric Trauma Program makes efforts into creating a safer world for children.

How are we helping? We will be creating bookmarks for PTP! These bookmarks will be focused on sharing safety tips for children! We highly recommend using construction paper for this. We suggest sharing them with your local grocery stores! 3 bookmarks = 1 hour, 10 hours MAX

Why do some clubs have so many points? Attendance! Having many members show up for events and contribute to their club’s attendance helps a club earn pod points and appear on the podium! Only dues paid clubs earn points!

Aloha Orcas, I hope you are all doing well, as school is sadly starting again... đ&#x;˜ Anyway, if you don't happen to know me, my name is Derek and I proudly serve the Division 4 South Lions of Rainbow Region 3 as their Lieutenant Governor for the 2020-2021 term! We are your close northern neighbors from the southern tip of Orange County and I am beyond excited for our upcoming joint-DCM together in September! Hello! I am Shanelle Relucio and I'm the Lieutenant Governor of Division 05 North. I'm from the Central Valley of California. While I'm not doing community service or preparing for a Key Club event, I love photography, calligraphy, embroidery, and watching movies. Some of my all-time favorite movies are the Half of It, Crazy Rich Asians, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. On occasion, my sisters and I will watch Peppa Pig episodes in French to try to learn. At school, I'm involved in Photography Club, American Cancer Society, Mock Trial, Youth Court, and of course, Key Club. Remember to stay safe, and I hope you all have an amazing day!

What is the Kiwanis Family House? The Kiwanis Family House provides support for families in medical crisis! Donations allow a secure and low cost housing alternatives for families in need of medical help at the UC Davis Medical Center and Shriners Hospital. Click here to learn more!

How does this work? The goal is to reach the “pond first! To reach the pond a club must fundraise $50, and your duckie will move up a notch towards the pond every $10. This will be shown on updates on our Instagram story! The first club to reach the pond will receive 2000 Pod Points, the second will receive 1500, and the third will get 1000. Every dollar raised past $50 will count as 5x as many Pod Points! The club with the most funds raised will receive an additional 2000 points!

Emeline Oropeza (middle), and Isaac Marquardt (right) were in Group 3 together during the DCM and created this lovely card that won the most votes to be featured!

On August 15, 2020 We gathered via Zoom to hold our Luau for Learning DCM! After the meeting, Orcas separated into groups and drew positive cards for elderly homes with an online website! After everyone finished their cards, we all came together and voted for the best card. To finish the meeting, everyone got together again to play some games, including a Kahoot about Key Club and Tiki Toss! Thank you to everyone who participated, and we hope to see you again next month! Click here to see the slides from the DCM! Jarret Yasuoka, Kathy Hamamoto, Michael Klein, and Carolyn Brian for being our chaperones!
