tide-ings from your LTG + EDITOR WHAT’S POPPIN’, ORCAS?! Spooky season is passing us right by, and now it’s time to be thankful! Show thanks to all those who support your club as well as who support you individually; even just a few words can make their day. Without the energy, support, and volunteerism of those who work to improve our clubs, we would have nothing! I’ve noticed that we haven’t been making as much headway with our service hour and fundraising goals this year, so this month, let’s work our hardest to improve ourselves like never before. This is OUR time to shine, and neither money nor a lack of service hours being counted should stop us from being recognized as the wonderful division we are. That's all I have for you this month, Orcas! Stay updated with division business on our Instagram (@d37w.orcas) as well as on Remind 101 (@d37w to 81010). I can't wait to see you at our future events, and I'll see you all soon!

Thankful for all of you!

Antony Lin D37W Lieutenant Governor CNHKC DCON Committee Member IG: @antummy

TIDE-INGS FROM YOUR LTG + EDITOR | 3

HEY THERE, ORCAS! Though most of us have already become accustomed to school by now, I know that a majority of us are still being swept by the busyness of school and life in general, especially those of us seniors that are still working hard on our college apps. Even with this in mind, we still have a lot on our hands, including future DCMs and FRS. It’s times like this where we have to push through and show everyone what we’ve got! Let’s do our best for the upcoming FRS by practicing our cheers and giving our all! With this in consideration, let’s still continue to serve and find new ways to give back to our community. For everyone that’s in charge of submitting their articles and visuals, remember to turn in your submissions by November 5th. That’s all for now! Once again, let’s continue to serve our community while we prepare for FRS and show everyone our Orca spirit!

Let’s get it, orcas!

Club Guajome Park Graduation Year 2021 Instagram @eme_songluver Birthplace Escondido, CA Hobbies Drawing, writing, singing, reading, and writing secret messages for my fellow puzzle enthusiasts to decode. Lw’v ixq! (hint: 3 letters back) Key Club Moment RTC was what began that spark in me, and DCON was the hugeevent that turned that small spark into a grand firework! Seeing so many new friendly and welcoming faces, hearing the exciting sound of spirit battles going down, & learning new leadership skills that were certain to develop, it all fit in so perfectly! At that moment, I realized that Key Club was the right place to be! Looking Forward DCON and ICON, which I plan to work hard to get my club to attend this year, seeing as it is going to take place here in Cali! Proud Of the amount of work I had put into making this year fun and organized! I strive to see the day that my members experience that special Key Club moment that we all have gotten to know at some point, and to watch them grow into the powerful leaders that exist within them! For the Division When the end of the prior school year came creeping about, I was worried that I did not have what it takes to lead a club. I was completely lost, without much of an idea of how to even manage a club, but here I am today, supporting myself with the information I learned, coming up with new ideas each day, and being more involved in my community than I could have ever imagined. Last year, I was a follower, but this year, I strive to build myself up into a strong leader. So to all you members out there reading this, I believe in you. Right now, you may feel like a follower, but I promise you, if you really dedicate your time to it, soon you'll be an even greater leader than you could have possibly imagined. Just keep swimming.

Position + Club Executive Assistant Graduation Year 2021 Instagram @anika.lynn Birthplace Fountain Valley, CA Hobbies Listening to and making music, playing LoL, painting, and spending time with my amazing friends Key Club Moment One of the most endearing memories of mine are when my friends Karen Mina, Joe Mar Pineda, and Justin Tinoco were at my house until 2 a.m. the night before Fall Rally making spirit sticks, running on sugary 'coffee', and eating a variety of junk food. We were exhausted but it was one of the moments I realized I would do anything for this organization. Proud Being able to to be a part of this growth that our division has been experiencing and I like to think that I’ve contributed to it. For the Division Even though it can be hard to find time, there are memories to be made and and laughter to be heard. Pushing yourself to find that time is what drives our division and makes it all worth it.

Position + Club Division Secretary Graduation Year 2020 Birthplace Oceanside, CA Hobbies Dancing, playing tennis, and creative writing Key Club Moment Being born in such a kind and closely woven community, I developed a natural desire to give back to the community. When I heard that Key Club was one of the many mediums I could use to give back to the community, I joined. Proud Of the skills I’ve gained through Key Club, helping me to mature through my community. For the Division Thank you D37W. You guys are the most interesting group of people I’ve ever known. Hearing your hardships, seeing your diversity, and feeling your acceptance has been really refreshing.

With the school year already underway Carlsbad High School Key Club welcomed new and old members to the club! At club rush, people were eager to sign up and learn more about what amazing things Key Club had to offer. After introductions from our amazing CHS Key Club leadership team, we got right into telling our new and old key clubbers what our club was all about! We were so excited to see some new faces and returning club members that were ready for another awesome new year in Key Club. With over 60 students showing up to the first meeting, it’s safe to say that this year will be filled with service, new friends, leadership, and most importantly, FUN!

EMILY QUIROZ VISTA On September 5th, Key Clubbers had our first official key club meeting this year. Last year’s Key Club was mostly composed of seniors so to say we were kind of anxious was an understatement. Since the seniors have long graduated, the club’s members were small this time around, but we still had fun during the meeting. We felt accomplished finishing this meeting as new officers for Key Club! It gave us a newfound determination to get more members and to spread the news of Key Club in Vista High School.

SEPTEMBER DCM On Saturday, September 28th, schools from Division 37 West gathered together at Guajome Park Academy. In this eventful, monthly meeting, Orcas were able to bond as a division, share information with each other's clubs, as well as make ribbon leis in preparation for our annual Fall Rally! After a day full of ice breakers, eating acai bowls, and making leis, not only were the key clubbers able to receive community service hours for themselves, they were able to raise money for their fall rally trip and the Pediatric Trauma Program. 13 | OUR KILLER SERVICE

Collaborative events such as these never fail to give everyone a great time while contributing towards the well-being of those in need! It is always wonderful to have the opportunity of being a part of a bond that will continue for as long as we call ourselves Orcas.

CARLSBAD ART WALK From the very crack of dawn on the 21st of September to Sunday evening, three RBV Key Club Members volunteered at the Carlsbad ArtWalk. With some members serving upwards of 4 hours, our Key Club members served numerous roles, ranging from helping out Artists in the setting up of their booths, to the teaching of chalk art to children. While we did not have a large volunteer turnout for this event; that fact only serves to show just how many people ended up volunteering at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon instead. With this service opportunity, some members of our club who are artistically inclined were able to dedicate time towards their passion.

On September 21st (Beach Cleanup Day), our RBV Key Club partnered up with the Environmental Club to clean up the Agua Hedionda Lagoon on this sunny Saturday. Specifically, they performed activities such as repairing a concrete seawall, removing overgrown vegetation, picking up trash, and performing general trail maintenance alongside members of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation. With our two clubs putting out a total over 15 volunteers, our Key Club made sure that we would make a visible impact on our community. While our Key Club may have just started up again, it truly seems that our members’ passion for service never died down.
