A card for UNICEF (left), and a Key Clubber volunteering for the Agua Hedionda Lagoon (right)!

With spooky season in full swing, October’s Highlighted Service Project centered on making cards spreading awareness about UNICEF. One of Rancho Buena Vista High School’s Key Clubbers, Paige Smith, went above and beyond with not one, not two, but twenty-one alluring digital cards! Many of these cute cards feature artistically designed ghosts in addition to providing information about UNICEF. With cards like these and the compelling cause of helping children all around the world, who wouldn’t want to help give to UNICEF? Great job to Paige for going the extra mile for kids in need! Rancho’s Key Club has a great help in her!

On Saturday, November 14, Division 37 West teamed up with Division 37 East to host the November DCM, which was Charlie Brown themed! The Charlie Brown’s Bash DCM was an informative and fun DCM, where we went over important information as always, created cards for elementary school students, and played fun games! Orcas and Jellies got to mingle and serve their community! Thanks to everyone who came, and we hope to see you all at the next DCM!

Some of the cards created during the DCM and the Zoom meeting!

Thank you Mr. Azimi, Mr. Yasuoka, Mr. Klein, Ms. Hamamoto, Mrs. Walls, Mrs. Brian, Mrs. Haugen, Mr. Gillis, Mrs. Speaks, and Mrs. Davis, and Mr. De Anda for being our chaperones!

My favorite moment of 2020 was when I was able to work with my Division Leadership Team (DLT) more closely! I admire their hard work and the bonds we’ve been able to build. It just makes me so happy to know I was able to create a few new best buddies <3

My favorite moment of 2020 was when I became Executive Assistant of Service Projects because I learned how to improvise due to the pandemic limiting my options. I was happy to have unlocked an ability I did not know I had. In addition, I was happy to meet new productive friends from other schools!

My favorite moment of 2020 was going to Mexico in March. I had a lot of fun seeing family I hadn’t seen in a long time. Also, I loved waking up and breathing the fresh air.

My favorite moment was hanging out with friends on my birthday, March 7th! This was our last normal day together and we had lots of fun getting brunch, coffee, and thrifting. I even split my pants that day somehow!

My favorite memory of 2020 has been spending time with my friends. We do various outside activities like footgolf and running around or eat food together. Sometimes we dress up, but it’s always fun. I really appreciate them always helping me through the rough patches of 2020.

My favorite moment was when we had DCMs with other clubs. Specifically, the one where we did the origami cranes. It was fun to interact with others while folding paper cranes.

My favorite moment of 2020 wasn’t one moment, but all of the times I got to see my best friend. Every time we hung out it boosted my spirits and made me happy! We often got boba and chilled out together, or we played games like Minecraft together.

The Color-a-Smile activities with fellow Key Clubbers and Kiwanians was, without a doubt, one of my favorite moments of 2020! Seeing fellow students unwind and take a break from school and work just to have fun together felt wholesome and fantastic. Even when artistically challenged, I want to give my teammates phenomenal shout-outs for coming together to creating something meaningful to seniors, kids, and other addressees of those digital cards. I definitely look forward to more of such events!

I think the best moment of 2020 for me is quarantining. With all the time I had staying home I had the chance to really find myself, figure out who I really am as a person and what I really liked. I also had the chance to meet a lot of new and amazing people through Key Club and other online/in real life friends.

My favorite moment of 2020 was my 18th birthday. I got to get together with some friends (covid safe of course) and ate dinner! We didn’t do much because places were shut down, but I was just happy to be surrounded by my favorite people.

My favorite moment of the year was the February (I'm Baby) DCM. The part that I enjoyed the most was the pot painting service event. I also got to donate a lot of canned food to those in need, and it was really fun!

My favorite Key Club moment from 2020 has to be the Summer Leadership Conference. There was so much engagement amongst the members from across our country, and they were all super social and kind to one another. This energy is exactly what I miss most from Key Club and I’m glad I got to see that this year, even if it were only through Zoom.

Some officers and I were attending a Kiwanis morning Zoom meeting, (before the school year started) and the adults had a 10-minute long debate with one of their older members about the reason for, "loud explosions in my backyard every night!" I couldn't stop laughing, they lived near the back gate of Camp Pendleton for years and only now noticed their loud drills every night. To this day, I sometimes quote lines from that dialogue of the century.

My favorite moment of 2020 was on Halloween. Some friends and I got to got together outside on Halloween night and watched some movies and joked around. Obviously, we were social distanced and had masks on.

While this isn't a specific "moment," quarantine has allowed me to spend a lot of time talking with and bonding with my friends. Through late night calls to last minute hangouts, I really appreciate that I was able to spend more time with everyone because they're all available now. Despite all the terrible things that happened this year, I think I grew a lot as a person this year.

Definitely my favorite moment was during the club fair! We got so many new members for our branch of Key Club, it was so gratifying and made me optimistic for the future of Key Club at SDA.

Probably playing Minecraft with the boys during quarantine. We had a good time being able to chat all day and night with nothing to do and nowhere to go.

I hope all of you had many good moments throughout 2020! This month, I hope you all cherish the good memories and strive to continue to keep making more in the new year! Keep serving and making a splash, Orcas! 14 | DLT & Prez Feature
