Accidental Twosome: How a Chance Meeting in Centennial Launched The Golf Tournament Industry’s Next Big Thing.

n most days, archery, radio control flying and golf have nothing in common. For Michael Kranitz, however, the three could not be more related. Kranitz, the founder of Golfsquid.com sits at the epicenter of a cloud-based software platform that golf tournament gurus like Gary Robinson only dream about. That the two even met is mind-bogglingly coincidental and what the two are doing now may be the coolest thing to happen to tournament golf since the jet-powered golf cart. Gary Robinson’s truck needed a wash.

Kranitz’s Jaguar had spots; the ones that only look good on real jaguars. As Robinson stood inside the Soft Touch Car Wash in Centennial, Colorado, Kranitz decided to make a phone call while standing in the sunshine that often bathes the Denver area in early January. He didn’t even want to make the call, but it was on his do-list. Kranitz was mildly scouting for a salesperson to bring archery, sport shooting and radio control flying clubs into his network of event websites. As the conversation ensued, mist from the entrance of the car wash irritated Kranitz enough to propel him inside where he stood, describing in full detail how the “Eventsquid.com” network functioned. He had no idea that Robinson, then owner of Colorado Golf Events was on the verge of launching his own website to package “white glove” golf tournament services into a single destination. He also had no idea that Robinson was standing a few feet away, eavesdropping on the conversation. Three years before the two set foot into the car wash, Kranitz began work on his latest entrepreneurial venture; a website to aggregate all of North America’s radio control flying events and simplify the process of

online registration, accounting, promotion, ticketing and all of the other trappings of the several thousand RC events that dot the US and Canada each year. Radio control flying seems like a small and far away place from which to start a golf platform, but Kranitz, a 40-year veteran of the hobby and successful serial entrepreneur knew it was the perfect place to begin. Kranitz had made a small fortune from a classified ad platform that he incubated in the RC hobby before moving it into the mainstream and ultimately selling it to Hearst Corporation and MediaNews Group. “RC is a terrific platform for me to experiment with,” he says. “I know the players, I know the nuances of the industry and the events they hold are far more complex than most corporate events and events in other hobbies and sports.” Most importantly for Kranitz, RC represents a passionate and loyal group of users, who feel a sense of community and engagement when they use the website. “A passionate user base drives success in the online services I create,” he says. Nearly three years to the day that Kranitz launched his first event vertical, RCFlightDeck.com, he is standing in the car wash describing what is now an entire network of sites that grew from it; a network that currently serves corporations, like Comcast Business, along with hobbies and sports like archery, gun shooting, radio control racing, radio control flying, and full scale flying. The network is dubbed Eventsquid and from what Robinson can glean it has all the makings of a perfect platform for golf. As Robinson listens to Kranitz describe the capabilities of the Eventsquid platform, he cannot contain himself. He walks toward Kranitz and thrusts his business card right under Kranitz’s nose. Within seconds, Kranitz concludes the phone conversation and begins chatting with Robinson. Three weeks later, in mid-February 2015, Golfsquid.com quietly went live. A Squid of A Different Color Golfsquid.com brings something completely new to the world of tournament golf. Beginning with its whimsical name and running shoe inspired color palette, the website oozes with coolness and screams “massive step up” from whatever system tournament hosts may be using currently to run their events. The site’s well-made animated video artfully illustrates, in less than two minutes, the broad range of services that the site provides. We have found no comparable service

in terms of sheer breadth and quality of execution. Although there have been attempts at providing online registration services by

web companies and even pros, none of them bring the level of sophistication, functionality and ease of use that Golfsquid.com brings to golf’s tournament table. According to Kranitz, “breeding a platform that serves the corporate market and many disparate hobbies and sports results in a very healthy mutt that can handle events of virtually any type and complexity. Golf is no exception.” A quick tour through the site’s feature set bears this out. From the “EventBuilder” area, a nontechnical person can create a highly functional and very attractive event website that can handle everything from spectator tickets to foursome registration and hole sponsorship. As the video aptly describes it, the golfers and the software do most of the work. The event planner can simply click icons to create revenue reports, badges, parking passes, foursome lists and just about everything else needed to ensure a smooth tournament. Beyond golfer registration, the system can easily handle ancillary items like donations, banquet choices, exhibitor booths, hole sponsorship selection, spectator tickets and the collation of pictures and videos from the event into one place. For golfers, the efficiencies are no less rewarding. Once a golfer registers for any tournament hosted on the system, their personal information is stored so that registration for any future event is a 60-second affair. Golfers can return to their personal list of events and reprint receipts or access passes and post photos and videos from the event. The site will automatically create a web app that golfers can use to view details about the event, read up-to-the-minute bulletins and vote in real time on any ballots created by the event host

(like favorite hole, favorite driver, etc.). For real tournament enthusiasts, the site offers a “watch list” that sends you automatic notices when events of your preferred type that are posted within your desired radius. According to Robinson, the company’s business model is simple. For most events, the site charges $2.99 per golfer, period. For events with per-golfer registration fees in excess of $800, the charge goes to a little over $6.00 per golfer. The site makes quick work of foursome registrations. When golfers register a foursome, they can either register their foursome partners or simply fill in their email addresses and the site will send the foursome add-on members a coded invitation that allows them to simply join the foursome at no charge. Golfsquid is completely self-service and newly “squidified” tournament hosts can have an event website up and humming usually within 45 minutes. The software is extremely easy to use and typically cuts registration-related workload in half. According to Robinson, golf courses also reap the benefit of these efficiencies in the way of fewer questions and more efficient events. Golfsquid is currently signing up “partner courses” in its “Squid PRO Quo” program. As a member of the program, each partner course can get on Golfsquid’s official list of courses and they receive an allotment of nicely appointed tournament folders they can give to prospective event hosts. Each folder contains a booklet explaining how to utilize Golfsquid.com, giveaway coupons from retail and service partners and the course’s own informational and pricing material. There is no cost to the course as suggested by the Squid PRO Quo name.

The club is fortunate to have its own senior, 1881 water rights that provide the needed irrigation to maintain its lush fairways, roughs and greens throughout the golf season. Beside adding to the beauty of the surroundings, Lake Wauconda provides substantial water storage to insulate the club from extended droughts. A limited membership of 300 provides many ways to make a round of golf more enjoyable; from finding your tee time is readily available, to faster rounds, to more time to replay the day’s highlights. For over 40-years Perry Park has been a member-owned club. This has provided a sense of continuity and assures that its members decide for themselves what's best for the club and its future. Gentlemen Always Replace Their Divots! By Jerry Walters Divot Contributing Writer

very professional golfer, golf professional and astute golfer will tell you that a divot is a necessary part of the golf shot, however in moderation and clearly after making solid contact with the ball. Divots are a curious item and very different in size, weight and description. The word “divot” is derived from the Scots, who claim to be the first to strike a small orb with a walking cane and dates back to 1586. Divots are as old as the Royal and Ancient game itself. In the modern dictionary, the definition is “a small piece of turf gouged out of the earth sometimes by a golf club.” Actually, in golf terms, itʼs a small deviation from the ideal arc of the swing, resulting in a variety of flying turf. There are those who argue that the divot is a the piece of sod that becomes air-

borne, and yet others maintain that a divot is the void left by the flying lawn being flung into the sky. This fascination paradox may perplex scholars well into the future, but for me, Iʼd prefer to spend my few precious days left on this planet classifying the misplaced chunks of sod and referring to them by size and shape. • The first divot warrants very little mention and is an embarrassment to the perpetrator. Itʼs known simply as the bacon strip, very long and thin, weighing in at an anorexic 2 ounces. • Second, and this may get under your scalp, is the toupee. This divot weighs in at a paltry 4 ounces but is much broader and thicker than the aforementioned bacon strip. • Third is the rug. Now youʼre talking bulk. You can readily visualize the nap or the binding on this one, tipping the scales at a hefty 6 ounces. These are the divots you could collect and take home to patch your own lawn.

Next is the dead cat. Usually, it takes a special machine to skin these. You normally see them in rolls on the backs of trucks driving toward the new track homes. The name comes from the flat felines seen on the road. The beaver pelt is obese at a massive 12 ounces. Amazingly, you blasted that much earth into the air without bending or breaking the shaft of the club during the shot. And, finally, comes the behemoth of divots, known only to a very few golfers possessing super human strength.

This chunk of real estate is known simply as the loaf, not because of its land mass, but because of the tonnage. This baby weighs in at over a pound and comes crashing back to earth, with a resounding thud, destroying everything in its path. Whatever terminology you prefer to use, be sure to replace your divots or pour the sand and seed mixture to fill the void. I may be in the group right behind you. Growing Junior Golf

ith the numbers of adult golfers dropping, there is a big push by the PGA to try to get golfers back on the golf course. One obvious approach is to introduce more juniors to the game through junior golf and school programs. APG Links Golf and Dave Vahling, who has a successful high golf program, has teamed up to develop unique junior golf programs utilizing an indoor facility. These programs are designed to help the aspiring young golfer develop the skills necessary to attain their goals. 16th Annual CNI Golf Classic Co-Chaired by Two Golfers with Parkinson’s This annual tournament raises funds and awareness for individuals facing neurological conditions.

n Monday, June 1st, Colorado Neurological Institute (CNI) will hold the 16th Annual Golf Classic at the Golf Club at Bear Dance to support individuals facing neurological conditions such as stroke, brain and spinal tumors, head pain, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. Tom Draayer and Dean Mills, two golfers with Parkinson’s, are co-chairing this year’s tournament. The 2014 tournament raised more than $48,000 and the committee hopes to raise even more this year. Without fundraisers such as the CNI Golf Classic, CNI would not be able to offer a resource center for individuals facing neurological conditions. CNI’s tournament players are community partners, patients and golf enthusiasts. Each of them serves as an ambassador and storyteller for the organization. Since 1988, CNI has been providing re-

search, patient services and education for individuals facing neurological conditions. A Thing For Spring By Rhett McEmma Divot Contributing Writer

e seem to have a reputation of being a community of snow-bound stir crazies from Labor Day thru Easter, but here in Colorado, we seldom have to wait for the signs of spring to tee it up. Since winter rules last went into effect, my buddies and I have played at least once every month. Even early in February, before Denver broke a 103 year old record for snow fall, there was summer-like weather, setting new highs with multiple days in the 60’s and 70’s. In spite of all the beautiful winter weather we usually have, for me, spring always brings a bit of excitement. The days get longer. And longer still when we spring forward. I never tire of seeing the trees beginning to bud and the grass starting to green, hearing the occasional ice cream truck jingle through the neighborhood, or when Jim Nance says, “Hello friends.” This is usually my cue to help the snow shovel find its way to the rear of the shed. Spring is when the golf bugs really start to bite. My clubs take their proper place

near the front of the garage where they’ll have quick access to the trunk of the car at a moment’s notice. Of course our unpredictable spring weather is certain to interrupt my joy with an occasional bucket of rain, and most surely a spring snowstorm or two will send me back to the shed retrieving the shovel. But be discouraged not, for all this moisture always makes for incredible playing conditions when the sun pops out. It’s always good to remember a few springtime tips to help start your golf season. Be sure to check your golf bag. Be certain your children, grandchildren, or the ornery neighbor kids haven’t removed all your balls and tees and replaced them with rocks, sticks, tennis balls, and empty candy wrappers. Get back into a stretching regime…slowly. Remember, you’re a year older. Make certain your favorite tacky golf shorts still fit. Your legs, which haven’t seen the sun in months, are torture enough to your foursome, don’t make them cope with a crotch blowout the first time you squat to read a putt. Go to the range first. Don’t be that golfer who walks to the first tee after a winter of inactivity and then

Spring Golf! promptly toes one straight right, scattering everyone on the practice green. Set reasonable goals, and have realistic expectations. If you could really play the way you want, you wouldn’t have been working all winter at the job you are now trying to escape

from. Move up to the proper tee boxes, give up on balls that are more than fifty yards left or right, and give all your playing partners putts inside the leather. Lastly, remember this is your entertainment dollars at work, have some fun. D

launched my drive higher than normal, the wind being directly behind me. The ball’s gust assisted arch dropped my Titlist perfectly in the fairway about 130 yards from the middle of the green and the pin. My second shot, a high slightly drawn 8 iron, tapped the green like a loving hand on a child’s head some 12 inches from the cup. It was birdie time!

Birdies on The Island Course just outside Dublin or any links course are rare for me and most amateur golfers. And, they are particularly rare on this course. Surrounded on three sides by the sea, pushed by healthy wind, protected by over 100 bunkers and sand dunes higher that any I have ever seen, The Island Course is a challenge and a hell of a lot of fun. But, it was just one of five courses I played on a recent trip to Ireland.

The Island is a links course, the type of course virtually every golfer wants to play and should play. Portmarnock Old is the other must links in the area. But, to focus on only links courses to the exclusion of Ireland’s many fine parkland courses will

cheat a golfer from a better golf experience. The four other courses I played on this trip were all parkland courses (Powerscourt East, The Carton House O’Meara, The K Club’s Palmer and Druids Glen). There is no doubt that Ireland’s parkland courses are more like courses here in the USA. Instead of sandy low nap fairways and beachy wildness common to links courses, the parklands have lush grass, flowers and a well thought out design and setting. There is a reason they are called “Park Land”.

Powerscourt: Like the other courses I listed above, the East course of Power-

scourt is part of a 5-star resort. The East and West courses are located on 1,000 acre estate that includes a modern 200 room deluxe Palladian-style hotel, one of Europe’s most important gardens and the original manor house/castle built by Lord Powerscourt in the 18th century. The East Course itself is hilly and carts are available. It’s a serious championship track with incredible views of the Wicklow Mountains and undulating greens that require a good touch to keep from three putting. Several holes are well framed by large trees while others open to wide fairways and deep binding grassy rough. The property is

modeled after Gleneagles in Scotland and offers many of the same outdoor activities and indoor amenities.

Carton House: Two quality courses grace the Carton House – the Montgomerie and the O’Meara. I played the O’Meara, which was designed by the American Pro Mark O’Meara. Though I found some of the holes to be pretty plain, there were several that stood out. The third hole was particularly nice as the River Rye skirted its left side and then widen below a commanding cascade of water that protected the green. The fourth hole, a par 3, re-

quired a perfect shot over a 150 yard wide lake to a green carved out of a wooded amphitheatre. Too short – trouble; too long – even more. Carton House itself was to my mind an architecturally fascinating combination of old and new. The original house, also in the Palladian style, was built in 1739. An ultra modern addition was cleverly built to complement the old house. I stayed in the old house in a room called “Talbot”. It was comfortable, charming and my only complaint was the lack of adequate bedside reading lamps. The lounge off the lobby bar was the original kitchen of the house and still had the stoves, ovens and grilling racks used in the 18 century - a perfect spot for a Guinness or two.

The K Club: The opportunity to stay at the K club and play the Palmer Course, which was the site of the 2006 Ryder Cup, was a true treat. The elegance of the hotel extends out the Palmer and Smurfit courses. Playing a course like the Palmer, it is easy to become distracted. The course setting, the large spreading oak trees and the many water features all contribute to a making each shot just a bit more difficult. Currently only 70 rooms, the resort is in the process of constructing 70 more, which architecturally will blend perfectly with the existing building. This is a course that starts out good, but just gets better with each hole. I had my challenges with an occasional tree, the River Liffey and some right leaning fairways, but also a couple of holes that will not soon be forgotten. I’m coming back and this time, I may bring my wife. Staying here will certainly make me her hero.

Druids Glen: Unlike the Palmer course at the K Club, I had no great expectations of Druids Glen or the companion Druids Heath course. Bluntly put, I was surprised. The Heath is certainly the minor of the two courses but worth playing. Druids Glen, on the other hand, was challenging without being gimmicky, fun, intense, relaxed and utterly beautiful. Fairways climb and drop dramatically to generous but well guarded greens. The 12th a par 3 called St. Patrick is the signature hole with a flower emblazoned Celtic Cross just below the tee box that is a over 80 feet above the well guard green. But, my favorites are the par 4, 13th and 18th holes. Water, trees, bunkers, an elevated tee box and risk reward balances favoring the risk are truly superb examples of what makes a great parkland course. The Marriott managed hotel is not to the standards of the others, but the rooms are comfortable, the public rooms and bar are great and the club house called the Woodstock House built in 1770 has all the amenities without impacting the charm of the stately manor.

So, if the Dublin area is in your plans and you “like nice”, include a stay in one of these properties and mix parkland courses with your links in your next itinerary. You will then have a better idea of what Ireland offers.

Sandbagger: One who artificially inflates his or her handicap in order to gain a competitive advantage. See also: Scumbag Many people play golf more for the camaraderie than for the game itself. The chance to spend time with friends is just one of the many reasons to partake in a game that can otherwise be an exercise in frustration. But maybe you are not one of those people. Maybe you look at golf as a way to get away from others and are annoyed by the fact your solace is impinged upon by the three other players in your group. Maybe you are looking for solitude and respite from the demands of associates and other acquaintances. In fact, maybe you simply have too many friends and are looking for a way to thin the herd, so to speak. If you find this to be true, might I suggest the ancient art of sandbagging as a means to that end? Trust me, becoming a sandbagger will allow you to cull your overcrowded Christmas card list more quickly than if you were to become an Amway agent. Carriers of the Swine Flu are more welcome in a foursome. The Unabomber has a longer list of people willing to bail him out of jail than the sandbagger. In point of fact, no other pursuit can so quickly turn friends into sworn enemies as sandbagging. Serial killers and yes, even telemarketers get more respect than sandbaggers and for good reason: While serial killers may be able to point to a life-changing event beyond their control somewhere in their past that steered them down their wayward path, eliciting a modicum of sympathy and understanding if not compassion, sandbaggers are just, well, jerks. These individuals have bartered their self-respect for a few paltry coins. They have traded their conscience for mere lucre.

Yes, they have sold their very soul for nothing more than pro shop payola worth half the value of real dollars and three times that of their character, if they had any. Sandbaggers are the lowest life form on the planet. They possess all the charm of a sexually transmitted disease and are harder to get rid of. And the very worst thing about sandbaggers is that they will spend every waking moment they are not using their puffed-up handicap to rifle through your wallet, trying to convince you they are NOT sandbaggers. With a handicap system that rivals the IRS tax code in complexity, these remorseless bottom-feeders have elevated the manipulation of that system to an art form, swimming the murky handicap waters with the agility of bottlenose dolphins–lying, cheating, scum-sucking dolphins. You know the guy I’m talking about; he consistently stripes drive after drive 300 yards down the center of the fairway when there is sufficient coinage on the line, but immediately begins snap hooking his 8-iron into adjacent fairways as soon as he’s got you three down with two to play. Magically, the putter that has not failed him from inside 15 feet becomes balky, and he has trouble getting his lags halfway to the hole. And that “once-in-alifetime, can’t-believe-it-happened” 68 that he shot last week somehow never got reported, leaving his tidy little 19-handicap intact. Stalkers have more redeeming social value. Which brings us to the question, “What can be done about this blight on the golf community?” I have a few suggestions. engine, a horizontally-opposed 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 200 horsepower and is fitted with direct-injection technology, rather than a turbocharger. The BRZ has an old school sports car feel but with a modern twist and technology features you'd expect in a new car today. Most notably, a touch-screen navigation system that comes standard. It has classic sports car proportions and the five-spoke wheels, flared fender lines, sculpted flanks, arched roof and long hood help complete that look. Inside, I liked the basic, practical cockpit design and use of simple materials. The 2015 Subaru BRZ scores well with five stars overall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), as well as top marks of "good" from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) as well as "acceptable" in the new small-overlap frontal-impact test. For a small, low to the ground

sports car, visibility is good thanks to plenty of window space. There are two trims available on the 2015 Subaru BRZ, as well as the choice of either a manual or automatic transmission. Every BRZ comes with iPod controls, touch-screen navigation, xenon headlights, Bluetooth connectivity, and an eight-speaker sound system. They also include power windows, mirrors and locks, a trip computer, rear defroster, and leather-trimmed parking brake and shift knob. The Limited models have upgraded seat bolsters, heated seats and mirrors, a rear spoiler, dual-zone climate control, fog lamps, and a keyless start system and even with an automatic the sticker still comes in at just under $30k. But what is the most impressive is the standard price tag, coming in at just $26k. And at that price this vehicle is an absolute performance bargain. D

It seems that every year the Masters provides us with a few wonderfully unforgettable moments and this year was no exception. During the closing moments of the second round golf fans could not help but be moved by Ben Crenshaw’s final appearance on the 18th green after 44 years at the Masters. As he finished his round “Gentle Ben” was greeted by a standing ovation from the patrons, a warm embrace from his longtime caddie Carl Jackson, hugs from his wife and three daughters, and salutes from club officials, fellow players and friends who had come in from his home in Texas. In a gracious post-round interview he expressed his love for the Masters and the enjoyment of his many years at August as well as admiration for the talented young players now on the scene. In not too distant future we will most likely witness similar farewells for other past champions, including Tom Watson, Fred Couples, Jose Maria Olazabal, Padraig Harrington, Bernhard Langer, and someday even Tiger and Phil to name just a few. For the majority of us, however, our final rounds will be far less dramatic. There will be no standing ovations, warm embraces or tributes. Our absence from the usual weekend foursome may be recognized only by our closest golf buddies, and for most of us our final putts may not even be planned or anticipated. They’ll just eventually occur. It may happen abruptly and unexpectedly with little or no warning or perhaps more quietly as we simply store our clubs away in the basement one last time. I was reminded of this when my own game was recently disrupted by back surgery and a rather lengthy recuperation that kept me off the course for a year while my friends continued to play on without me. As my bag gathered dust in the garage, another friend even apologized for taking my spot in the weekly match. I am hoping to make a comeback this year but wonder how the lengthy layoff will affect my game, especially since I am a bit older than Jordan Spieth, Paul Casey and Kevin Na combined. Of course I am counting on old age, wisdom and will power to overcome my physical shortcomings; it’s part of my training as a

psychologist. Reality, on the other hand, is saying, “Good luck, old timer, enjoy the game while you can.” So with that in mind, I would like to offer the following advice to everyone who plays the game: Try to fully enjoy your time on the course. Golf is more than just a score on a scorecard or out-driving your buddies. Leave your cell phone in the car and take the time to

appreciate the friends in your foursome. Take a good look at the beauty that a golf course offers – the contours of the fairways, the roll of the greens and, especially here in Colorado, the spectacular settings that surround our courses. Harvey Penick, Crenshaw’s mentor, once said that to fully appreciate the design of a golf course, you have to turn around and look behind you. Utilize all of your senses. Listen to the sounds of golf, the click of a well-struck shot, the clatter of a ball falling into the cup, the breeze in the trees, the songs of birds on the course, as well as the peace and quiet a golf course can provide. Enjoy the warmth of the sun on your skin, the breeze on your face, the wind and rain on the back of your neck and the stiffness of your muscles after

a round. They’re all part of the game. Finally, treat the course and its personnel, even the rangers, with respect; they’re all just trying to do their jobs to make your round more enjoyable. Lighten up and enjoy yourself. Take a cue from Ben and keep in mind that golf is a gentleman’s game. And regardless of how poorly you may have played be sure to tip your waitress well in the club lounge after your round. Above all, remember to enjoy the game while you can because none of us really knows when we’re going to face that final cut. Chipping: Why You Shouldn’t Always Use a Wedge • • • • • • • • • •

By Reggie Sanchez Divot Contributing Writer hen I start working on a client’s short game, the first question that I ask them is if they know the difference between the chip shot and the pitch shot. Fifty percent of my clients answer the question correctly, the other half might think the chip is the pitch and the pitch is the chip. The difference is that the pitch shot stays in the air longer than it is on the ground and the chip stays on the ground longer than it stay in the air. The chip has a very short carry and a pitch has a much longer carry. Unfortunately, the average player practices the short game less than any part of the game, yet a player cannot score without it. Through practice, you must develop the ability to take no more than two strokes to complete a hole after having missed the green. This is known as getting up and down. Chipping- I’ve seen the golfer that uses only one club around the green and changes his or her swing size to calculate distances. I believe that most golfers would chip bet-

ter if they varied their club selection according to the shot, keeping the stroke and landing area the same. When chipping, I encourage the use of the SW to the 5 Iron according to the length of the shot and use the mathematical formula taught to me by Mike McGetrick. First, you need to understand the carry vs. roll ratios... SW PW 9 Iron 8 Iron 7 Iron 6 Iron 5 Iron

Look at the landing spot on the green Picture the shot before you swing Start the backswing with the shoulders Keep a rhythmic tempo Hit down on the back of the ball Keep your eyes on the back of the ball A putting stroke with a forward press Hands must lead the way After Impact left wrist is flat DO NOT BREAK THE WRIST ( No scooping)

The number one cause for bad chips is flipping the wrist. This is caused by trying to get the ball into the air, leaving the hands behind the ball at impact. When practicing the chip shot have your Certified Personal Coach show you how the carry vs. roll ratios apply on the green during your next lesson.
