GOLFTEC Opens World-Class Instruction and Club Fitting Center outside Denver GOLFTEC – the world leader in golf lessons and premium club fittings – announces the opening of a state-of-the-art instruction and club fitting center in Westminster, Colorado at 1885 W. 120th Avenue. Relocating from 9440 Sheridan Boulevard, the new facility is staffed by a veteran team of highly-trained coaches and includes four teaching / practice bays along with a putting / warm-up area. These coaches leverage GOLFTEC’s world-renowned teaching technology – including advanced motion measurement, video analysis, premium launch monitors and putting lessons powered by TECPUTT – to help any student find a path toward improvement that best suits their unique needs. GOLFTEC students drop an average of seven strokes from their scores. GOLFTEC Westminster also features the company’s enhanced custom club fitting program. The TOUR-like fitting experience combines swing characteristics with ball flight data to help identify optimal equipment for each student. An array of club-

head/shaft options are available to perfectly match players of any skill level with the clubs that best meet their needs. Nearly 75% of those who have gone through a GOLFTEC driver fitting have gained an average of 25 yards over their previous equipment. “We are so happy to be opening a new center for the Westminster community featuring our latest technology,” says CoFounder and CEO of GOLFTEC, Joe Assell. “The Denver area is our home and we look forward to providing the most comprehensive teaching and fitting options for our local golfers before they head out on the course.” Westminster GOLFTEC Center Manager Nathan Morris will oversee operations at the new facility. A Westminster native, Morris has over 12 years of experience teaching and was Colorado Avid Golfer's top instructor in 2014, 2015 and 2016. “Colorado golfers expect the highest standard when it comes to instruction and club-fitting,” says Morris. “We look forward to providing a one-stop shop for golf

improvement and club fitting in Adams and Jefferson counties for years to come.”

GOLFTEC continues to establish itself as the world leader in golf improvement with more data on the golf swing than anyone else in the world, thanks to its awardwinning SwingTRU Motion Study. The global GOLFTEC coaching team is comprised of experienced instructors that have graduated from GOLFTEC University – a

multi-week certification program based around a curriculum of mastering advanced training of golf swing mechanics and GOLFTEC’s proprietary technology used in all Training Centers. The majority of GOLFTEC Certified Personal Coaches are PGA Professionals who have taught thousands of lessons. To learn more about GOLFTEC, please visit www.golftec.com or call 877-4465383. D

When you’re shopping for cars, I doubt you walk right up to one and say “well, this looks pretty good, I’ll take it.” If you do, that’s an interesting tactic. But what’s more curious is that’s how a lot of people shop for golf clubs. I know a driver isn’t nearly as expensive as a car, but you’re still making a pretty decent investment when purchasing golf clubs. Since a lot of amateurs make the mistake of buying before testing anything out, they often end up with ill fit equipment that hinders their game. One of the biggest oversights we see? Driver shaft lengths.

Go shorter for longer?

We compare a lot of things to the pros, from their swings to what they have in their bags. And when we look at their drivers, we typically see one commonality, their driver shaft length. You might be surprised that most pros have an average driver shaft length of 44.25″, that’s at least an inch shorter than your standard off-the-rack driver shaft. You might be thinking “well wouldn’t a driver with a longer shaft go farther?” For most golfers, it’s the opposite.

Shorter & more consistent

So there has to be a reason why these shorter drivers go farther, right? It all comes down to consistency. Looking at the two pictures to the right, the top image is from a driver with a 45.25″ shaft. There’s no consistent pattern, and that has a lot do with the shaft being a little too long for that particular golfer. And because of that, I can almost guarantee this golfer struggles with distance. When we put this golfer into a shorter shaft, to no surprise, his shot pattern became more consistent and centered. Hitting the center of the face not only will help control those shots that hardly ever find the fairway, but you’ll see your distance increase as well. Now, we’re not saying changing out your shaft will completely overhaul your long game, but it’ll for sure help. Between the length of the shaft and all the other different factors that make up a shaft’s composition, figuring out what you need on your own is nearly impossible. The only way to pinpoint what’s best for you is to try different shafts with the help of an expert fitter. Denver Golf Expo

The Show is Growing! Just Play! Is the theme for the 2020 Denver Golf Expo and our number one goal is to get people thinking about golf earlier, which is one of the reasons we hold the Denver Golf Expo in February. The thinking is… if we can give avid golfers a great golf experience, get a new club in their hands, give them a swing lesson, or get them thinking about golf in a new way it will encourage occasional and avid golfers to get out on the course as soon as they get the chance and perhaps play more rounds for the year. Well, something is working right. The 2019 event increased in both attendance and exhibit size which bodes well for the 2020. The Denver Golf Expo is again perfectly

positioned this year to be the week following the Super Bowl when sports fans are asking themselves, “Now what do I do?” Every year the Denver Golf Expo with help from the Colorado Section of the PGA, the CGA, CWGA, JGAC and exhibitors like you, attempt to kick start the golf season by getting golfers excited early about the game we all love. Make your plans to join us February 7-9, 2020 at The Denver Mart. Be there to see why the Denver Golf Expo is considered to be one of the top consumer golf expos in the country. For 2020, there’ll be more golf contests, more golf giveaways and more golf merchandise than you can “shake a golf stick at!” Exhibitor registration is now open!

Golf Anti-Counterfeiting Group Announces Seizure of 2 Millionth Counterfeit Product Milestone marks group’s commitment to its mission, continued impact in battle to keep golf real

The U.S. Golf Manufacturers AntiCounterfeiting Working Group (The Golf Group) today announced that it has reached a historic milestone in its ongoing battle against fakes — the seizure of the 2 millionth counterfeit product since the group was formed more than a decade ago. The landmark seizure was achieved during two successful raids conducted in collaboration with local law enforcement authorities in Dongguan, a major industrial center in Guangdong province, China. The milestone reinforces the group’s commitment to fighting illegal counterfeiting while protecting consumers, the brands and the game of golf. “The seizure of the 2 millionth piece of counterfeit golf equipment is a validation of our efforts as a group and an inspiration for us to keep fighting to protect the consumers, the brands and the game that is so important to all of us,” said Stephen Gingrich, Vice President of Human Resources, Global Legal Enforcement, at Cleveland Golf Company. “We are proud of what we’ve accomplished but we know there’s still work to do. This is a message to counterfeiters everywhere that we are more committed than ever to putting an end to the production and sale of these fake products. And we are more committed than even to keep golf real.” The raids were carried out by local government law enforcement authorities in Dongguan and took place in April and May.

In total, authorities seized more than 36,000 counterfeit golf products, including grips, club heads and shafts. The raid is the latest successful shutdown of efforts to produce, distribute and sell counterfeit golf products worldwide. The raids that took place this spring included the seizure of 350 club heads, 300 golf shafts, and more than 35,000 golf grips, which were counterfeits of a variety of brands. Since 2004, The Golf Group’s collaboration with worldwide government enforcement authorities has led to the seizure of more than two million pieces of counterfeited gear, including clubs, club heads, shafts, grips, balls, bags, gloves, and apparel imitating some of the game’s most trusted brands. Additionally, the group has been vigilant in pursuing legal action to shut down more than 1,500 websites selling counterfeit products and accessories. “The group has been together for more than a decade and we have made a lot of great progress,” said Kristin Strojan, Legal Counsel Trademark and Brand Protection at TaylorMade Golf Company. “We’re working more closely with authorities every day, finding new ways to identify and shut down counterfeit operations. We know there are still counterfeiters out there but we also know we’re making it a lot harder for them to stay in business. Combine that with our education efforts for consumers and we think we’ve got a winning formula in the battle against fakes.” D DIVOTMagazine.com

20 years and counting! Swinging into Fall at Red Hawk Ridge The sun is bright, the grass is green and the views are amazing. Typically, municipal golf courses get a bad rap, but in Castle Rock, CO, there’s a diamond that’s truly above par.

Par 5, No. 18 Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course may be Town-owned, but it isn’t your typical municipal setting. Tucked in the scenic Red Hawk neighborhood just west of Interstate 25, the Town’s golf course prides itself on country club conditions in a high-end atmosphere – at a more affordable price. “We’re really proud of what we offer at Red Hawk Ridge,” said Head Golf Professional Bob Persichetti. “This is a beautiful setting and a premium destination for golfers.” At 20 years and counting, the course is definitely doing something right. Originally managed by Western Golf Management Co., the Town has operated the course for the last 17 years. Since opening in May 1999, the course has hosted more than 700,000 rounds

of golf. “Red Hawk Ridge is kind of a hidden gem,” said Persichetti. “But I guarantee after one round, you’ll be hooked. It’s more than a golf course, it’s part of the community. And, in our opinion, one of the best courses in Colorado.” The full-service course features a fully stocked pro shop, full-service restaurant, practice facility, custom club fittings, PGA instruction, and several youth, club and league options. Plus, it’s a course for everyone. Depending on the tee used, this course is playable for the weekend golfer, families and low-handicap players alike. “There are five sets of tee boxes for golfers to choose from,” said Persichetti. “So, it won’t beat up

a higher handicap golfer, but at the same time will challenge more skilled players.” The beautifully designed course boasts extreme elevation changes, magnificent wildlife and picturesque views. With 18 unique holes, the 6,942-yard course will provide a golfing experience with all the glamor of a country club, along with the comforts of a home town course. It’s an experience even the most seasoned golfer can enjoy. “This really is a beautiful course,” said Red Hawk Ridge golfer Roddy Babb. “Look at these views. They’re unbelievable!” Castle Rock residents understand the appeal, and the secret is out. The course has won multiple awards since first opening including No. 7 on Golf Di-

Par 3, No. 14 gest’s list of “America’s Best New Public Affordable Courses,” top 30 on “America’s Best New Public Affordable Courses” in GolfWeek, and top 40 on GolfWeek’s list of “America’s Best Daily Fee Courses.” “It doesn’t really matter how good of a golfer you are,” said Babb. “I myself am a big fan of the reachable par 5 on the 13th hole. But, this is also a course that I can enjoy playing with my family.” Having a successful 20-year history starts with having good roots. Renowned golf course architect Jim Engh – who designed world-famous courses in places like China, France, Ireland and Thailand – laid out the spectacular course on the scenic hills overlooking Castle Rock and the entire Front Range. When interviewed at Red Hawk’s 10th anniversary celebration, Engh talked about some of his favorite features. While his favorite run of holes at Red Hawk Ridge are Nos. 12 through 15, the designer talked about the course’s dramatic changes in elevation and the challenges that can pose. “I find that the things that make a course difficult are also the things that make it exciting,” said Engh. With bent grass tees and greens and lush bluegrass fairways surrounded by scrub oak and native grasses, Engh says having fun is what’s important. “Certainly, that’s the main goal. Especially for a

municipal course,” said Engh. And, Red Hawk Ridge golfers would agree. Golfers consistently praise the course with high reviews for top-notch customer service, affordable green fees and exceptional course conditions – all while being among a small percentage of courses that are Audubon Certified, meaning Red Hawk Ridge is responsible with resources and works to protect the environment. The course is also always striving to improve the product quality and player experience. In the past few years, enhancements have been made to the practice area, permanent on-course restroom facilities have been installed, a continuous concrete cart path from hole No. 1 to hole No. 18 has been completed, and Visage GPS units have been added to all the golf carts. It’s all part of the course goal to maintain a high-end atmosphere at a more affordable price. “Golf is a great sport. It builds character and teaches integrity and patience,” said Persichetti. “Money and time are two of the biggest barriers for people wanting to play the game. We are working to minimize both those barriers and offer a great place for people to spend time as a family.” When planning your next round at Red Hawk Ridge, there’s a lot to experience. It’s not uncommon

for deer to wander onto the greens. Also, the signature par 3 14th hole is the highest point on the course and offers 360 degree views of the entire Front Range. If golf isn’t your game, the Clubhouse Grill is the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon. The outdoor patio offers unbeatable views and overlooks all of Castle Rock. With happy hour specials and delicious lunch selections, the Clubhouse Grill is a great place to unwind after a round or after work. Live music is oftentimes scheduled for Saturdays in the summer. The restaurant/bar is also available for a wide range of private functions and holiday events. “We really take pride in creating a great golfing experience,” said Persichetti. “From the second they step out of the car, to finishing the day at the Clubhouse Grill, we want golfers of all skill levels to know they are welcome.” Whether you’re just starting out at the game, looking for a happy hour destination, or a seasoned golfer, Red Hawk Ridge truly has something for everyone. Consider this an invitation to get to know the benefits of a locally owned course. Book a tee time at redhawkridge.com. “This is a busy place. We try to push the envelope,” said Persichetti. “Our goal is to keep making the course a premiere destination for golfers.” D
