O

WELCOME

n behalf of the staff at Racer Productions, welcome to the 2014 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series presented by Maxxis, America’s largest off-road ATV and motorcycle racing series. The best off-road racers from across the nation and around the world follow the GNCC circuit seeking out the best competition in their sport, and we’re glad you’re here to take part in the action! GNCC Racing combines two distinctly different aspects into one uniquely successful racing series. On one hand, this is high-dollar professional racing, with factory teams, custommade equipment, big salaries, prizes, and bonuses for the top riders. These racers are superstars in their sport. They’re shown prominently in a generous television package on NBC Sports Network, are featured in live coverage of each event on RacerTV.com, and are highlighted in various forms of print publicity. On the other end of the spectrum are the thousands of dedicated amateur GNCC competitors. These weekend warriors battle for pride over glory, and often do it the oldfashioned way: with a little help from family and friends. And it’s those grassroots efforts that have made GNCC such a unique national racing circuit. Be sure to check out the official series website at www .gnccracing.com for all the information you’ll need on AMSOIL GNCC Racing. The site features live timing and scoring, results, and tons of info on your favorite racers. If you can’t make it to the events, be sure to catch the action on NBC Sports Network and RacerTV.com, or follow GNCC live on race day via Twitter (@GNCCRacing), Instagram (@gncc_ racing), and at Facebook.com/gnccracing. GNCC Racing owes a hearty thanks to all of its sponsors, especially Title Sponsor AMSOIL; Presenting Sponsor Maxxis; OEM Sponsor Can-Am; Feature Sponsors Rocky Mountain ATV/MC, Parts Unlimited, Moose Racing, FMF, Dunlop, VP Racing Fuels, ITP, Wiseco, Mid-State Chevrolet, and Powersport Grafx; plus Associate Sponsors Tire Balls, 100%, Moose Utility, Elka Suspension, Cometic, Twin Air, Thor, FOX, Factory Connection, Racer X, Hinson, All Balls Racing, ALCO Cleaning Products, Team Faith, KR4 Performance, Lazy Days, Car-Mate Trailers, Shark Kage, and Moto Tees. It’s another exciting year for AMSOIL GNCC Racing and we’re glad you’re here. Find a spot in the woods and cheer on your favorite racers. Have a fun, safe weekend and enjoy all the GNCC Racing action. Sincerely, Rita Coombs and Family GNCC Racing

Unfortunately, he suffered a lengthy run of injuries and rarely had the patience to heal properly before returning. Watts, considered the Travis Pastrana of off-road, was never able to win the GNCC crown again.

e’s as good as anyone has ever been, and deep down inside, he knows it. While AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country racing

seems to be a high-pressure affair, Chris Borich goes about his business with a quiet efficiency that belies how hard he’s working—and how much he’s accomplishing. But there’s no reason to be nervous or anxious when you’re the five-time and counting GNCC ATV Champion—you just wait until the last lap, put on a charge, and win more races.

son! That’s exactly how Borich did it in 2013, taking his Maxxis-backed Suzuki to victories in all conditions— Florida sand, Georgia clay, rough terrain through the Carolinas, and even a mudder in Kentucky. Most of the time, chief competitors like Adam McGill, Walker Fowler, and Chris Bithell would get in the mix and challenge, but Borich’s patented last-lap charges would lead him to a big win streak and points lead. Am-Pro Yamaha’s Fowler finally put an end to Borich’s win streak in Indiana, with Bithell edging the champ for second. Fowler, a second-year XC1 pro with an unmatched pedigree of GNCC Youth and Amateur championships— amazingly on both bikes and ATVs— was expected to push Borich for the

A LOOK AT

GNCC EVENTS Much of what separates the AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series from other forms of racing lies along the courses’ 8 to 12 miles of grueling terrain. The thirteen-round series starts in sandy and rough central Florida, but that’s just the start; the rest of the schedule showcases everything from slick tree roots to gnarly hillclimbs, mud pits, single-track woods sections, and even some wide-open grass tracks. GNCC racers have to be versatile, in shape, and at the top of their game every week if they want to contend for the National Championship.

On the television side, NBC Sports Network returns with coverage of all thirteen rounds of GNCC in 2014. However, the RacerTV crew is also spicing things up with the best of the best coverage on the NBC Sports Network, incorporating the most exciting race action of the entire weekend, regardless of class or discipline. The all-new format will feature a combination of racing from each round, which could include anything from 4x4 Pro ATVs to championship battles in the XC1 Pro Class or even an exciting wheel-to-wheel challenge in the UTV class—all in one show. On the digital side, GNCC Live returns with real-time coverage of the afternoon ATV and motorcycle races from all thirteen rounds. Longtime GNCC announcer Rodney Tomblin calls the action alongside various special guest announcers throughout the season, while pit reporter Jen Kenyon conducts pre- and postrace interviews with riders, sponsors, and industry personnel for the most comprehensive live coverage off-road racing has ever seen. GNCC Live can be found on RacerTV.com beginning at 1 p.m. Eastern on race Saturdays (ATV) and Sundays (motorcycle). RacerTV.com also hosts post-race highlight shows following every round of GNCC this season. All shows—both live and recorded—will be archived on RacerTV.com forever, so you’ll never have to miss the racing. If you’re not at the races and can’t get to a computer, do the next best thing and follow along with our socialmedia accounts to stay up to date on information and results. You can find GNCC on Twitter, Instagram, and

Facebook by searching for GNCC Racing or with the account names below. As always, Live Timing and Scoring is also available by visiting GNCCLive .com on any computer or smartphone to receive real-time updates on lap times, positions, and rankings. For anyone who doesn’t have a fancy phone, GNCC has created the Live Laps Texting Service. This service sends live alerts and race data to your phone via text message so you’ll never miss a lap. You can choose from three different live coverage options by simply texting the word “HELP” to m@gncclive.com. You’ll be given the following options immediately after: 1. Subscribe to a racer for the day, for automatic alerts with each completed lap. Text the word “SUB [racer #]” (for example, “sub 259”). Text the word “UNSUB” to m@gncclive.com to cancel a subscription to one or all of the riders being followed. 2. Periodically check on a racer. If you text more than one rider’s number, the system will respond with a text for each racer on the list. Separate each racing number with a space (example: “5 199 259”).

3. Follow the overall top twenty or a certain class. Text “C” or “CLASS” and the system will respond with a list of codes and corresponding classes. The code will be the letter “C” followed by either one or two digits (example: “c6, c10”). Reply with a class code, and the system will respond with the current unofficial results you selected. Considering the length of an average GNCC course—between 10 and 12 miles—Live Laps Texting Service is a great way for fans in attendance to stay on top of the standings. Live Laps Texting Service is free, but message and data rates may apply. Consult your mobile plan.

and bike transportation, race prep, a mechanic, and hospitality at the track. The team also provides a fuel man and “spotter” on race day, leaving virtually nothing for the racer to do but show up and ride! You can ride your own bike or lease a fully tricked-out KR4 machine. This option works especially well for riders who may not have the means to prep a bike, load the trailer, and hit the road to each round. It also allows the serious racer a couple of extra days to ride and train at home instead of working on bikes. Not only does this program offer all the necessary parts to help get folks to the races, but it also provides first-class accommodations on race weekend. Complete with a 48’ trailer wrapped in KR4 team graphics, the bikes are lined up alongside a professional setup of team canopies and signage in the pits. They also bring a 45’ coach that houses the hospitality area for food and drink— and if you’re lucky, “Mama Keegan” might whip you up a sandwich! Do you already have your own bike dialed in and just need to get it from race to race? KR4 can help with that too. For a very reasonable fee, KR4 will deliver your bike to the event without any hassle. Once you get to the event, just pick your bike up from the KR4 tent and enjoy the rest of your race weekend with
