LETTER FROM THE LTG Hey, Penguins! By time you are reading this, we will have completed our Winter DCM! I truly hope you enjoyed the DCM and had fun serving and spending time with other Key Clubbers in our Division. We have a busy few months coming up, as we have our 2017-2018 LTG Election Rally, our final DCM, and finally, DCON! Additionally, I will be utilizing one last major plan for our Division extended over the next few months which will be detailed in this Newsletter. This plan will be the last phase of my Triple-C plan, as our Division works to build solid foundations of connections that we will work off of for years to come. I am confident that the final phase of my plan will finish the foundations we have created this year. On another note, I know finals are coming up for some of you, and we all have only a few weeks of school left. You guys got this! We’re almost there, and I know you all can do it. As you head into break, keep in mind that service doesn’t stop! The holidays are a fantastic time for you to serve your home, school, and community (see what I did there), and a great time to spread the amazing values of Key Club. Remember, Key Club isn’t just a club. It’s a way of life. I wish you all the best of holidays! In love and service, DMITRI SABERI LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR OF DIVISION 56 LTG56@PNWKEYCLUB.ORG (509) 715-7475

TRIPLE-C PLAN: FINAL PHASE As part of the final phase of the Triple-C plan, Collaboration, I will be implementing a buddy system at our Winter DCM. Everyone will be assigned a buddy to get to know through social media, texting, or whatever form of communication they would like. This buddy system will be continued from this DCM to our final one. Obviously, if anyone is not interested in participating, they will not have to. However, I do believe that this will help clubs form bonds on a deeper, more personal level. This form of collaboration would be a great way to solidify our foundations from this year. There will be a period during this DCM, as well as our next DCM, to meet with buddies and just get to know each other. The other part of the Final Phase of my Triple-C plan will be the Yearly Plan, which I will present to the Division at our Final DCM.

PULLMAN UPDATE Pullman Key Club has been looking ahead in the past month, while keeping busy with many service projects at hand. They have recently volunteered for several shifts with the Moscow Salvation Army, which is an organization providing food and shelter to those in need. Additionally, in light of their multitude of KCCP-focused projects, they have turned the spotlight to their members and community in the past few weeks. They have created the monthly tradition of member of the month, with a creative award: going to a Kiwanis Luncheon. Not only does this reward the Key Clubbers for their hard work with a free lunch (and missing a class), but it also means that Kiwanians see Key Clubbers attending their meetings quite often (The officers also attend meetings fairly frequently). This keeps the Kiwanis-Key Club bond strong in Pullman. And on that note, Pullman has been doing projects with their Kiwanis focused on the community for years. One of these they have been doing this fall, helping people park for WSU basketball games. Not only does this show Pullman Key Club giving back to their community, but it also strengthens the already-strong bond of the K-Family in Pullman. 8

MOSCOW UPDATE I had the privilege to visit the Moscow Officers to make sure they knew what their jobs entailed, to answer their questions, and to get an update on what their club is up to. During our meeting, we counted money from a fundraiser they had earlier, while relaxing and talking. Moscow Key Club has a fantastic way of doing things as a team, as evident by their officers. Everyone participated equally, and did it while enjoying each other’s conversation. Moscow has been thinking about a lot of upcoming events and opportunities, primarily DCON and scholarships. Some of what we discussed was centered around those two topics, and they are very excited and ready. Their officers are a fantastic group of people who work very well together, and I think we will see that in their service projects in upcoming Updates on Moscow.

OROFINO UPDATE Orofino Key Club always has been deeply rooted in their Community, and that is very evident in what they’ve been up to this last month. In addition to visiting an elderly home (as I mentioned in my last Update) in October, they planned immediately another visit for early December. This date has been swapped to Wednesday, December 14th, when they will return to be with the elderly. This gesture is perfectly representative of how tight-knit Orofino’s community is. This last month, Orofino helped in their annual Stuff the Bus project, which you can read more about in the Featured Event Section in this newsletter. One thing to keep in mind is Orofino is a huge club for their school’s size (36 members, about 300 students), and has an energy and passion that brought them to take the long trip over to Pullman for our last DCM. They are a truly special club and have been doing fantastic this month and throughout the year.

EVENT RECAP: OROFINO Stuff the Bus Written by Rika Ilagan, Orofino Bulletin Editor On November 18 and 19, Orofino’s Key Club aided KLER Radio with their annual Stuff the Bus. It took place at Glenwood IGA, Shopko, Kings, and Barney’s Harvest Foods. A lot of Key Club members participated in this event along with some Boy Scouts from Troop 536. Together, they helped load and organize the donated goods onto the bus. The food that was donated and “stuffed” onto the bus went to our local food banks, and is then given to those who are in need for the holidays. In all, we raised a total of 3,260 pounds of food! Throughout the duration of this event, Key Club members and Boy Scouts were interviewed live by Mr. Jeff Jones from KLER Radio. The members loved participating in this event and helping out their community. As usual, it was a really cold day, but it was all worth it to help those in need.
