LETTER FROM THE LTG Hey, Penguins! This is my third-to-last newsletter. Wow. This year has certainly been a wild ride, but I’m grateful to have spent it serving you. There is still plenty left to do! We have had 2 successful DCMs thus far, leaving us one more to do. Additionally, we will be utilizing the buddy system this semester, meaning we are now working on close, personal connections and the transition to consistent collaboration. We’ve grown a lot as a Division this year, and I encourage you to reflect on not only how we’ve grown, but how you’ve grown as a Key Clubber and a person. Additionally, as you work hard in school and Key Club this semester, be thinking about DCON! DCON is a yearly celebration of service for the PNW District, and my favorite weekend of the year. I highly encourage you to attend, it’s just a breathtaking experience. Please contact me or your presidents for more information! DCON should be the light at the end of the tunnel for you guys this semester :) I’m also extremely excited to announce the election of the next LTG of Division 56, Jane Tang! Please read that page of the Newsletter for her bio and my recap of her election. Best wishes this semester! Please message me with any questions or concerns you may have! Yours in love and service, DMITRI SABERI LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR OF DIVISION 56 LTG56@PNWKEYCLUB.ORG (509) 715-7475

ELECTION RALLY RECAP On January 7th, 2017, Division 56’s annual Election Rally was held. This was an exceptional rally for several reasons, the first being that we had 6 candidates. In addition to being the largest number of candidates we have ever had, the candidates’ quality was fantastic. Our 6 candidates were Aasiya Islam, Jane Tang, Symanthika Bose, Jacqueline McAleer, May Qiang, and Andy He. It was truly an incredibly difficult decision for the delegates; every candidate had an extremely commendable speech and campaign platform. It should also be recognized that all delegates were present from each club, another big leap from past years, where delegates typically would listen and vote over-the-phone. Thank you to all the delegates who made the trip over. After all the votes were tallied, it was determined that Jane Tang would be the next Lieutenant Governor of Division 56. Jane’s speech was amazing, and she displayed a very creative campaign platform. Congratulations to Jane on her wellearned victory! Having worked with her this year (she was Pullman’s Secretary), I can attest to the fact that Jane will be a stellar Lieutenant Governor, and I’m very proud of her. 6

MEET THE LTG-ELECT! “Hi! I'm so honored to be able to say that I'll be serving as your LtG for the 2017-2018 year! I can't wait to meet and get to know everyone, but until then, I'll start off with a little bit about myself first so you can get to know me a bit better: I love green tea ice cream, settling in with a good book, staying cozy (it's like being hugged 24/7, so I guess hugs are pretty great too haha), and of course, key club! I'm super excited to see what we can accomplish this upcoming year in service! See you all soon! “ ~Jane Tang, LTG-elect of D56 7

WINTER DCM RECAP Our Winter DCM was our most successful one yet! It was held on Sunday, December 18 at the Red Lion Hotel in Lewiston, with almost 30 members in attendance. The DCM started out with a Divisional Spirit Challenge (we even incorporated the Mannequin Challenge!), and went on to include a presentation from the LTG- a list of topics can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EK_a1yeerACyv8EzhhfYVkLC5F6ZbSEwe1GgTMpjD0/edit?usp=sha ring -and a service project, making holiday cards for patients at Seattle Childrens’! Overall, this extremely successful DCM combined spirit, education and updates about our Division and District, and service for an extremely well-rounded afternoon. I’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone for making the effort to attend! You can check out the precise agenda in my last newsletter, and the official business portion by clicking on the google doc linked above. Now, it’s time to set our focus on finishing strong on our last DCM! 8

THE BUDDY SYSTEM The Buddy System is a program I am implementing this semester as part of the last two phases of the Triple-C plan. I will be giving presidents contact information of the buddies who are not yet connected so we can get this plan moving. Please communicate with your buddy! This is meant to create deep, personal friendships on individual levels between clubs. PULLMAN MEMBER

PULLMAN UPDATE The Pullman High School Key club enjoyed a fantastic holiday service season to close out 2016. This December, the Key Club actively participated in two recurring community service events, as well as a pair of lucrative community activities to boost club finances. To start the month, the club partnered with the Pullman Salvation Army to raise money for the Salvation Army bell ringing program. The event spanned from early to late December, and collected donations for the needy. The Key Club also volunteered to help at the annual Gladish Skate Night, as well as WSU basketball parking and PHS wrestling concessions. These activities helped abate individual registration fees for the PNW 2017 DCON, for which the club also received a record number of sign-ups with 25. In more recent news, the club also elected its 7th consecutive PNW Division 56 Lieutenant Governor of the 2010 era, with Jane Tang becoming the incoming LTG replacement for Dmitri Saberi. As a side note, officer elections for the club are currently scheduled to be held on February 8th, 2017. Altogether, the PHS Key Club enjoyed an extremely productive December, representing a wonderful year of service within the PNW District. Here is to another great year of service! -Shyam Venkatasubramanian President, Pullman High School Key Club

MOSCOW UPDATE We're doing really well! The Highlighter dance is this Friday and it'll be one of our fundraisers for DCON because we really want to send all of our officers! However, we are donating some of the proceeds to KCCP. What we're most excited about is starting a builders club at Moscow Middle School. We believe getting kids excited about service and about volunteering early on will not only strengthen numbers as they reach the high school and college, but it will also be a great way for the middle school to become more connected with the community. Also coming up is the Kiwanis fishing clinic, which is a yearly event that Moscow's Kiwanis club puts on and partners with our key club for a free day of fishing for kids. We have some other ideas for some later fundraising for DCON, but nothing has been solidified yet. All in all everything seems to be going alright. We had a bit of a rocky start at the beginning of the semester, but we're hopeful the start of the new semester will bring some fun times! -Katie Landreth President, Moscow High School Key Club 11

OROFINO UPDATE Orofino’s Key Club has been very productive in the past couple of months. During the month of October, we decorated pumpkins with residents at the Clearwater Health and Rehab (CHR) and participated in our town’s annual Trick or Treat on the Street. In November, our members volunteered at KLER’s Stuff the Bus in which we helped raise 3, 260 pounds of food! In December, we rang bells at our local grocery stores for the Salvation Army, talked on the radio for Kiwanis Radio Days, made Christmas cards with the residents at the Clearwater Health and Rehab, had a club Christmas party, and attended the DCM in Lewiston. Our club also has a couple of fundraisers lined up to help raise money for those students who want to attend DCON in the Spring. These fundraisers include Valentine's Day candy grams and a movie night for the students. Another one of our future events is elections for the academic year 20172018. This will be held on January 20th, 2017. -Rika Ilagan Editor, Orofino High School Key Club 12

FINAL DCM WHO? The Key Clubbers of Division 56!

WHAT? Our final DCM. We have held two successful DCMs so far this year, and we need to finish the Key Club year out strong with our final DCM! This particular Meeting will have a strong focus on DCON, spirit gear, and recapping the year. It will also have an emphasis on the continuation of the Buddy System and the TripleC plan.

WHEN? The tentative date is February 11.

WHERE? Pullman, exact location TBD.

WHY? If you didn’t make it to the otherDCMs (or even if you did), you can’t miss this one! This will be an end of the year celebration and hype event for DCON, you better be ready to have a good time!
