President’s Report

Firstly, I would like to welcome back all of our existing members for another year and a special welcome to those which have joined us for the first time in 2020. There are many varied sports and activities our members can participate in with our best four-legged friends, but it is timely to remind people that this is just a hobby and whatever happens you are still taking the best dog home. Participate, be competitive, but always have fun and enjoy the social atmosphere at any of the events. Most of the members are aware that Cheryl was off work for one month with an injury. and we all wish Cheryl a speedy recovery so she can get back into the ring with her dogs. Thank you to the remaining staff for working so diligently particularly during this peak period with membership and other renewals being due, you have done a fantastic job as usual. Over recent times there appears to be some confusion on the rules and regulations of DOGS SA. DOGS SA in the main complies to the ANKC Ltd Rules and Regulations and as such does not reprint them in our rules and regulations. Where there is a difference between ANKC Ltd and DOGS SA, DOGS SA rules and regulations will hold precedence. Members must avail themselves to the ANKC and DOGS SA rules and regulations. Similarly, when you travel interstate to compete or officiate you come under the rules of that State’s member body. With summer now upon us, remember to take extra care of our dogs and other animals. DOGS SA has a Hot Weather Policy which takes effect at different temperatures depending on the discipline. This Policy is to protect the health and wellbeing of all of us including exhibitors, officials and just as importantly our dogs. The temperatures are set for the average person and dog so if you know you or your dogs can not cope with a hot day withdraw the dog or take extra precautions. Do not become a victim of our hot summers. What is envisaged for 2020 - Council is currently investigating installing Solar panels to reduce our electricity costs. This was reviewed several years ago however, due to the tariff we were on, a change to Solar would not have been of benefit to us. It is now time to revisit the subject particularly with the reduction in costs and government subsidies available. Council is also investigating ways of attracting new members to our activities. Members can greatly assist in the attraction of new members by simply changing a lot of our attitudes particularly on social media. Social media is the cheapest and best forms of advertising and promoting our hobby. We simply need to stop being so negative and start concentrating on the positives of which there are many. So lets see how we go with some positive comments in 2020. If you have any issues come and speak with me or your elected Councilors to see what can be done to improve your situation without the negativity. They are there to assist all members. CODE OF ETHICS CHANGES FROM 2020

To say we are thrilled with the success of our Mother “Grace” & Daughter “Ruby” combination 3rd & 4th generation breeding at BARADAV is an understatement. Grace & Ruby are bred, owned, loved & campaigned by Barb & David Joseph

Effective 01 January 2020 the following important changes to the Code of Ethics come into force: PART XV CODES A. CODE OF ETHICS FOR MEMBERS 5. The health and welfare of a bitch being bred from is of paramount importance and I will adhere to the following minimum standards. (01/20) (a) Not allow any bitch owned by me and/or under my control to be mated before she is twelve months of age. (01/20) (b) Breeding - A member shall not breed with a bitch causing it to whelp more than twice in any eighteen (18) period without the prior approval of the SACA. (01/20) (c) Not permit a bitch to have more than five litters in her lifetime. (01/20) (d) Not conduct or permit mother/son, father/daughter or brother/sister matings. Puppies from such matings will not be registered unless approval from the SACA was provided prior to the mating. SACA will only provide approval where scientifically proven welfare or veterinary reasons exist. (01/20) (e) Not breed a bitch over eight years of age unless at the time of a mating there was a current veterinary certificate stating that the bitch is in good health. The veterinary certificate must be presented at the time of registering the litter resulting from this mating. A current veterinarian certificate is defined as a certificate dated within the three months prior to the mating. (01/20) Definition of “Whelping” – Giving birth to one or more puppies. (01/20)

Currently 4/12/19 Grace is DOL top Neuter Gundog in SA. She was awarded Top Winning Neuter in Gundog group for both 2018 & 2019. GR CH Baradav A Reason To Smile (AI) “Ruby” Sire: CH Larbellah Team Leader x Dam: GR CH/NEUTER GR CH Baradav Noble Affair (AI) Ruby gained her grand Champion title in June 2019 – and along the way she has been awarded AB BIS, Multiple AB BIG & RU AB BIG plus multiple classes in specialty shows. Ruby was DOL Breed Challenge winner in SA in 2018 and is currently the leader in 2019. At the Gundog Club AGM 2019 Ruby was awarded Top Winning Bitch.
