President’s Report Given the Royal Adelaide Show has been cancelled for a second year the tempo of Dogs SA and its members has not really slowed down. Congratulations to the Dogs SA Junior Handler Committee for their dedication and diligence in ensuring the Juniors had a state final to remember. Along with their volunteers and numerous sponsors they held a fantastic weekend with 2 Championship Shows, a number of sweepstakes and of course the culmination of the weekend with the State Final of the Junior Handler Competition. Ultimate congratulations must go to Alana Shepherdson who was the state winner. Additionally during the month I had the privilege of attending the State Obedience and Rally Championships. Although I did miss the Obedience classes I did see the Rally classes which is becoming an up and coming discipline. As with many of the sporting disciplines I take my hat off to the training that goes into these activities. A special congratulations must go to Alexa McKenzie with Sup. Ch. Dual Ch. (RO) Cambrae Hit the Jackpot CDX RAE and RO Ch. Waveney Isle of Skye UD RAE AD JD who finished equal first in Excellent Rally. I have also been reliably informed by the Obedience Advisory Committee the entry numbers were the highest in the last 5 years and possibly a record since the current format was introduced. Well done to all of those who either officiated, volunteered or competed over the weekend to make it the success that it was. Sportsmanship and respect is not simply to each other but also to those who may visit an event, to and from Exhibitors/Competitors and to our sponsors who are getting more and more difficult to attract to our hobby. Yes this is a hobby and we should all be there to enjoy the time with our 4 legged family and 2 legged friends. So let’s all take a look at our own selves and see where we can improve to make the dog world more enjoyable for all. A final reminder is that nominations for the position of President and 5 Councillors for Dogs SA Council will close at the end of October. If you have ambitions of becoming a Dogs SA Councillor, please speak to an existing Councillor or members of Dogs SA to see if what you have to offer is of benefit to members and the association. DOGS SA ADVISORY COMMITTEE NOMINATIONS At the Dogs SA Council Meeting of 25th August 2021, Council considered the procedure for the nomination and voting for positions on Advisory Committees. Council confirmed all nominations for Advisory Committee positions are to be written nominations and this requirement be included in the Advisory’s ‘Terms of Reference’. The written nominations are to be received at the Dogs SA Office 14 days prior to the date of the Advisory AGM and nomination forms will require a Proposer and Seconder. Postal or emailed nominations are acceptable. Council also confirmed in the event there are insufficient written nominations received, the vacant positions may only then be nominated from the floor. Voting is by a show of hands or secret ballot. If any members are interested in nominating for an Advisory Committee position, nomination forms are available at the Dogs SA Office.

DOGS SA Dog/Puppy/Neuter of the Year TEMPORARY Competition Rules – 2020/2021 ONLY The Dogs SA Show Dog/Puppy/Neuter of the Year Competition will be conducted on a date to be approved by Council each year. Qualifying period shall commence on the first Monday after what would have been the 2020 Adelaide Royal Show, the 14 September 2020, and will conclude on what would have been the final day of this year’s Adelaide Royal Show, the 12 September 2021. Qualifying wins for Show Dog, Puppy and Neuter of the Year will be all Championship shows sanctioned by DOGS SA and held in SA. All owners of dogs must be financial members of their controlling body and the dog must reside in South Australia at the time of the qualifying win/s, this applies only to the 2020/2021 qualifying year. To Qualify for this event: Your Show Dog must have been awarded one of the following: ¾ All Breed Best in Show ¾ All Breeds Runner-up Best in Show, or ¾ Deemed to be one of the top 3 dogs in your group, excluding dogs already qualified under the first 2 dot points. This will be calculated on a point score of 2 points for Best in Group or Best in Show Specialty and 1 point for Runner Up in Group or Specialty. The points to be calculated at the end of the qualifying period with the top 3 dogs deemed the qualifiers. Your Puppy must have been awarded: ¾ All Breeds Baby, Minor or Puppy in Show ¾ Must be over 6 months of age at the completion of the qualifying period for the current year, i.e. the final day of the Adelaide Royal Show. (see pt. 2 above) Your Neuter Dog must have been awarded: ¾ All Breeds Best Neuter in Show ¾ All Breeds Best Runner Up Neuter in Show. Judges Please note that ongoing Covid Restrictions may impact on this year’s judging panel and some/all of the Judges may have judged in SA within the last 12 months and/or reside in South Australia. Judges will remain anonymous until the date of judging. Judging Format PLEASE NOTE THAT FOR THIS YEAR’S EVENT THERE WILL BE TWO PUPPY OF THE YEAR COMPETITIONS, THE QUALIFIERS FOR 2019/2020 AND 2020/2021 WILL BE JUDGED SEPARATELY WITH A PUPPY OF THE YEAR WINNER FOR EACH QUALIFYING YEAR. Order of judging for the event will commence with Neuter of the Year, then Puppy of the year followed by Show Dog of the year. The first round for competitors in each category shall be by random ballot. Where an exhibitor has 2 dogs registered to them, they cannot be drawn to contest each other in the first round. Judging will be a knockout competition with the 3 judges assessing each dog and independently selecting their winner. The winner will then advance on to the next round until the eventual winner is identified. The committee reserve the right to amend the format and timing of the program as necessary.

SETTING UP FOR SHOWS AT DAVID ROCHE PARK Members are permitted to set up Tents and Gazebos only to reserve an area on the day prior to exhibiting at a show held at David Roche Park. It is not permitted for space to be reserved using pegs or rope. No impervious groundsheets are permitted to be laid. All property is left at the member’s risk. Gates are open at approximately 8.00am or when the ﬁrst ofﬁce staff member arrives. The gates are closed at 4.30pm. Please ensure your vehicle is off the property by this time. If a show is held on the Sunday only and David Roche Park is closed on a Saturday, setting up on the Friday is permitted and is at the Member’s risk.

PROCEDURE FOR RESERVING OF SITES FOR COMMERCIAL MARQUEES When it is intended to book and erect a commercial marquee an application must be made to the Dogs SA office no less than 10 working days prior to the event. The booking must be made on the application form accompanied by the site plan (available on Dogs SA website or office) and the nonrefundable prescribed fee of $50.00 must be paid at this time. Commercial marquees are to be erected 2 days prior to the event to avoid conflict with other exhibitors and allow sufficient working space for the erectors. If a commercial marquee is not erected 2 days prior, then the reservation is forfeited, and other members may set up within that site. October 2021

Dear Dogs SA Members I wish to take this opportunity to update members on the actions taken by Council at the recent Extraordinary General Meeting, scheduled on Thursday 2nd September at 8.00pm. The meeting was called in accordance with Section 17A of the South Australian Canine Association Constitution and notices were published in the August Journal, the Dogs SA Website, Dogs SA Facebook page and Dogs SA Instagram page. The meeting was primarily called to pass two constitutional amendments. The first was to provide for electronic voting for Council elections, the second to provide for electronic Council meeting attendance with voting rights. The meeting would also provide opportunity for amendment and ratification of the minutes of the Extraordinary General Meeting called by members on Wednesday 20th January 2021. The notice of meeting called for an 8PM commencement and at that time a quorum of the required 40 members as per 17A(e) of the Constitution had not been achieved. An additional 15 mins was allowed for late comers however insufficient members were in attendance by 8:15PM and the meeting was abandoned. Council elected at that time to abandon the meeting rather than postpone it for the following reasons: • The current election cycle for Councillors has now commenced and therefore electronic voting provisions could not be utilised for this election cycle. The next election of Council does not occur until 2023. • The Constitutional amendment regarding remote Council meeting attendance with voting rights was added to the agenda to provide for COVID management protocols or Councillor injury and physical inability to attend meetings. While a valuable provision, it was not determined to be a priority to open the Constitution for this one amendment. Council agreed that the items would be added to the agenda for the next AGM to be conducted on 02 March 2022. Stories around 1%" *-Ɯ/" 4&1% All Breeds Dog Judge, ,%+ "4&+$1,+ Outback Restaurant USA After judging for a few a few days in one of America’s Mid West Cities, I had offered to take some members of the committee out for a meal just to say thanks in appreciation for the way they had looked after me for the duration of my stay. I asked them if they had a favorite pub or restaurant they would like to go to and they told me about an Australian restaurant called the Outback, so could we go to that one. I was quite intrigued to find out about this Aussie eating place in the middle of America so they booked a table for six. It was a couple of weeks before Christmas and very cold with snow on the ground and Christmas lights on most of the houses. We arrived around 8 pm and were shown to a table that was a cubical style. I was dressed in a suit and black crombie overcoat and was sitting on the end of the table. The waitress who was taking the order from the table behind us was telling them that the restaurant had been sold to an Australian who was due to visit them anytime and they didn’t know if their jobs were safe. When the girl came to take our order, she said nothing about this to us but I had an Australian fifty cent piece in my pocket so I gave it to her. The look on her face when she read the coin was one of shock she said to me are you ----------? then stopped. I just gave her a wink and said nothing. Well the food and service was great although there was no crocodile, Kangaroo, or Emu, plenty of Fosters beer signs and Blokes and Sheila’s on the toilet doors, we have crocodile Dundee to thank for all of that. When we had finished she came round and asked me if I would like to meet the rest of the staff. She took me into the kitchen where I caught up with the chef, the bar staff and the other waitresses. I told them all, that everything was just fine and I would not be changing anything and all their jobs were safe. When we left I went to pay the bill, all the staff were there to say goodbye and said there was no charge, they were just so pleased to meet me, the fifty dollar tip I gave our waitress was well received but I thought it was worth it for six lovely steak meals including drinks but I don’t think I will be visiting the Outback Restaurant in that City again for a long time.

CODE OF ETHICS FOR MEMBERS Each Member shall comply with the following Code of Ethics and any Member who fails to do so shall be guilty of an offence against these Rules. As a Member of the South Australian Canine Association: 1. I shall ensure that at all times all dogs under my control are properly and effectively contained by fencing or enclosure, and are properly housed, fed, watered, exercised and given proper Veterinary attention if and when required. 2. I shall not allow any dogs under my care to roam at large, and, when away from home, ensure they are kept fully leashed and under effective control, or otherwise under effective control at all times. (01/16) 3. I shall breed only for the purpose of improving the quality of the breed in line with the breed standard and strive to eliminate hereditary diseases in the breed/s that I produce. 4. I shall strive to have all my breeding stock tested, where tests are available, for hereditary diseases. 5. The health and welfare of a bitch being bred from is of paramount importance and I will adhere to the following minimum standards. (01/20) (a) Not allow any bitch owned by me and/or under my control to be mated before she is twelve months of age. (01/20) (b) Breeding - A member shall not breed with a bitch causing it to whelp more than twice in any eighteen (18) month period without the prior approval of the SACA. (01/20) (c) Not permit a bitch to have more than five litters in her lifetime. (01/20) (d) Not conduct or permit mother/son, father/daughter or brother/sister matings. Puppies from such matings will not be registered unless approval from the SACA was provided prior to the mating. SACA will only provide approval where scientifically proven welfare or veterinary reasons exist. (01/20) (e) Not breed a bitch over eight years of age unless at the time of a mating there was a current veterinary certificate stating that the bitch is in good health. The veterinary certificate must be presented at the time of registering the litter resulting from this mating. A current veterinarian certificate is defined as a certificate dated within the three months prior to the mating. (01/20) 6. I shall not knowingly permit any of my pure bred dogs to be mated to a dog of a different breed, to a cross bred dog, or to an unregistered dog of the same breed, or to a dog of the same breed which is entered on the Limited Register, unless specific permission is given by the SACA. 7. I shall not sell or otherwise transfer from my care any puppy under eight weeks of age, thus allowing for vaccination to be given at six weeks of age and thereby allowing for the ten to fourteen days for the vaccine to take effect. Upon the disposal of the dog I shall provide the owner with a current vaccination certificate of that dog issued by a Veterinary Surgeon. Accepted Veterinarian vaccination certificates are C3 12/36 months, C4, C5 or an annual Titre Test accompanied by a Veterinarian letter. (01/19) 8. I shall not knowingly sell or otherwise transfer from my care any dog that is not in good health. 9. I shall ensure that any puppy that is to be exported shall be a minimum of eleven weeks of age and micro-chipped. (01/12) 10. I shall ensure that all persons acquiring dogs from me clearly understand their responsibility for the care and welfare of the animal as defined in Clause 1 and 2 above. I shall not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, nor falsely advertise, or mislead any person regarding the performance of any dog. I shall provide to all purchasers of dogs or those placed by me, written details of all dietary and vaccination requirements and responsible dog ownership and/ or an appropriate publication relating to such requirements. 11. I shall not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers, or directly or indirectly to allow a dog to be given as a prize or donation in a contest of any kind or to be auctioned.
