President’s Report Council supported a motion to assist both Dogs Qld and Dogs NSW with a $5,000 donation to their flood relief programs. As many have seen on the news the devastating floods in both states have had dramatic and long-lasting effect.

The donation is to assist those in immediate need of shelter, food and other emergency supplies in the short term. I am sure that all the members of Dogs SA are wishing them all the best into the future.

Dogs SA will also be working with Dogs Australia and it’s member bodies to support the dogs and kennels being affected by the war in the Ukraine. This is a work in progress and more information will be provided as it comes to light.

As some would have seen from Face Book posts work has commenced on renovating the old office and converting it into a multi-function area for meetings and other activities. The works have been delayed however due to the discovery of Asbestos floor tiles under the carpet, so a professional removalist has been engaged to remove the tiles (approximately 100M2). Once complete, this area will consist of 2 meeting rooms with an operable wall to accommodate larger meetings and a kitchenette. The outer areas will be cleared up to allow for safe use of the grounds surrounding the building. Once complete this will be a fantastic addition to the Dogs SA assets into the future.

Of late there has been a considerable number of reports of someone soiling the toilets and in particular the Kerry Blue Loo. These are your assets and every time this occurs someone has to clean it up or in the worst case close the toilets until a professional cleaner can be engaged to clean up the mess. Come on let’s take some pride in the facilities we have and if you know who the culprit is report them.

Again, the Executive Officer and I have had to act as conciliators for exhibitors who for one reason or another do not get along. All I can say is if you do not like someone that is a personal issue and should not be brought to an event.

If you cannot do this, then think about having a break to reflect on what the real issues are. Dogs shows used to be a place to gather with your friends and dogs for a social gathering and a win was a bonus. Now it is all about the wins and my dogs are better than theirs. Respectful behaviour 101 – let’s get back to having fun and encourage new people to join us, if we don’t, we will have nothing left.

Lastly a quick reminder that as from 01 July 2022 there are a number of rule changes which will come into effect and members should make themselves aware of these changes as ignorance is no excuse. This also includes increases in penalties for some offences.

Expression of Interest for the Governance Sub Committee of the Dogs SA Council The Dogs SA Council would like to invite Expressions of Interest (EOI) to join their newly formed Governance Sub Committee. This Sub Committee will have 2 Councillors and one Dogs SA member.

The Governance Sub Committee will: Review governance documents, policies and procedures – such as Constitution, Governance Charter, Strategic Plan etc.

Consider independent reviews if required and obtained Present their advice to the Dogs SA Council regarding changes, adoption, additions etc.

Meet face to face at times but will work together via email and/or Zoom (particularly with the reviewing of governance documents) Ideally our new Dogs SA member will be a willing and enthusiastic volunteer and have a skill set, demonstrated expertise and passion for contemporary governance, particularly in the not-for-profit sector.

“ FINN” – Aust Ch Winterbourne Irish Challenger Introducing Finn who is an amazing Jack Russell Terrier who loves life and everyone around him.

Finn is 2 & ½ years old, a Terrier Specialist Best in Show winner, multiple Best in Group, RU Best in Group, Class in Group and Class in Show awards.

I am a very proud Breeder, Owner, Exhibitor looking forward to gaining Finn’s last points towards his Grand Champ Title following in his sire’s footsteps – “Morgan” Sup Ch Winterbourne Irish Avenger’s success and accolades.

Finn was awarded Dogzonline pointscore – No 1 Jack Russell Terrier - Show Dog of the year for Australia in 2021.

His progeny are consistently proving extremely successful in the showring.

Thank you to all of the judges who have thought so highly of Finn to award him his wins and accolades. I would also like to thank Shadow Farm Photography, Janice De Gennaro for her stunning photos.

As some of you will be aware our previous cover, through QBE Insurance did not provide cover for the use of firearms.

SACA Rule Amendments Effective 1 July 2022 PART XIV – OFFENCES A. GENERAL 1. A Member who commits a breach of these Rules, the Constitution or the Codes, shall be guilty of an offence. (01/20)

6. Any Member of the SACA suspended, disqualified or otherwise ineligible to be a Member of the SACA shall not be entitled to the return of any portion of his annual subscription or other fees.

2. A Member shall be guilty of an offence if a dog owned, or leased, by the Member and exhibited at an Exhibition is or was; (a) exhibited or handled by a person who is not entitled to do so; Maximum Penalty $2000 (07/22) (b) exhibited at an Exhibition which Council has not recognised or approved, or is conducted by a Club or Body which is not an Affiliate Member; Maximum Penalty $2000 (07/22) (c) bred overseas and was not re-registered by the SACA; Maximum Penalty $2000 (07/22) (d) not registered as being owned or leased by the Exhibitor; Maximum Penalty $2000 (07/22)

7. Any person causing annoyance by loud comments on a decision of a Judge or exhibits unsportsmanlike or unseemly behaviour while present at an Exhibition shall be guilty of an offence against these Rules. Maximum Penalty $2000 (07/22)

Members shall at all times and in all forums (including at Dogs SA events, in dealings in wider forums including chat lists on the internet and in all other communications) conduct themselves in a manner respectful of the reputation of the ANKC Ltd and Dogs SA Members, Judges, workers and officials.

3. A Member who commits cruelty to a dog shall be guilty of an offence against these Rules. (a) Any Member who witnesses cruelty to a dog by another Member and fails to report the incident to the Executive Officer forthwith shall be guilty of an offence against these Rules. Maximum Penalty $2000 (07/22) Current Rule 4. Any Member promoting, judging, making an entry for, or in any way officiating at an Event conducted by an unrecognised organisation, shall be guilty of an offence against these Rules.

Except where otherwise provided by the ANKC Ltd Rules, if a Member attempts to attract the attention of or interferes with an Exhibit or handler whilst the dog or handler is in the judging precinct, he shall be guilty of an offence against these Rules. Any Member of the SACA who engages in any action or conduct that is discreditable or injurious to those involved in the activities of the SACA shall be guilty of an offence.

A Member or Affiliate Member, when requested to provide information or documents,relatingto the activities of the SACA, to Council or an Affiliate Member, unreasonably fails to do so without just cause, shall be guilty of an offence.

Where a Member or Affiliate Member, is indebted to the SACA or an Affiliate Member and that debt remains outstanding for more than sixty days after that date on which it was due that person or Affiliate Member may be guilty of an offence.

Where such a breach has been reported in writing the Exhibit may be suspended within the terms of the Constitution and Rules pending the outcome of the proceedings.

No Member shall promote, buy, sell, lease, exhibit or in any manner deal with or have an interest in any banned breed of dog listed in the ANKC Ltd Rules.

Any member who breaches Clause 19 (2) (a) of the Constitution by failing to cooperate or assist with a Conciliation process, the Investigative Committee, the Disciplinary Committee or the Appellate Committee shall be guilty of an Offence.

Any member who breaches Clause 19 (2) (b) of the Constitution by making a malicious, frivolous or vexatious allegation to the Executive Office or SACA Representative shall be guilty of an Offence. (7/22) Maximum Penalty $2000 (07/22) B. AGGRESSIVE DOGS Current rule - Reporting 3. It is the obligation of any Judge, Exhibition Official or Member of the SACA or other Controlling Body who observes a dog/s behaving in an aggressive manner at an Exhibition to report the incident orally and where further action is considered appropriate, in writing, to the SACA Representative. Any such report must be made as soon as practicable but within one hour of the alleged incident. The SACA Representative will then deal with the report.

It is the obligation of any Judge, Exhibition Official or Member of the SACA or other Controlling Body who observes a dog/s behaving in an aggressive manner at an Exhibition to report the incident orally and where further action is considered appropriate, in writing, to the SACA Representative Any such report must be made as soon as practicable preferably within one hour of the alleged incident. The SACA Representative will then deal with the report. (07/22) 6. The SACA Representative on receiving a report concerning an aggressive dog shall; Current rule (b) if the matter is considered to be of a trivial nature he or she may call both parties together to attempt to reconcile the matter. If successful, a written report signed by the

The Retrieving Trials for Gundogs season opened in SA on 14th & 15th May at Grand Cru Estate Winery, Springton. A strong field including Victorians contested the All Age Stake each day, with the eventual winner on both days a pair of local lads being Ray Ashenden and his Labrador Retriever, RT Ch. Nativerun Angus CM. Both Novice Stakes were won by Jandine MacKenzie and her imported German Shorthaired Pointer bitch, Ulana Adin Dom (Imp Svn).

The Retrieving season continues on 21st and 22nd May with 2 days of trialling at Waikerie, on a property not used for years. Following on from that are 3 days of trialling at Tolderol on the June long week-end - spectators are very welcome as are group 3 aspiring/trainee and judges.
