President’s Report

The hot topic at the moment appears to be the rescinded motion by the ANKC to drop mandatory DNA parentage testing. Either way it is perceived there are reasons for and against and these are personal choices. As there has been significant debate over the matter on Facebook, Council has elected to bring the matter to a head and call a Special Meeting of the Members to openly discuss the matter. It is anticipated the meeting will be held late October or early November and the date will be advised. All matters relating to the DNA Parentage Profiling will be open to discussion including the DOGS QLD system which is now operating quite smoothly. I am sure there will be some healthy discussion at the meeting and I encourage all to attend. The off lead area is now up and running with signage placed at each of the entrances. Please be respectful of others and once your dogs have had a run and someone else is waiting, catch your dog and let others use the facility. Please also remember to pick up after your dogs and leave the area clean. There has been a number of reported issues (on Facebook of course) of chicken bones being found in the area. This is a serious issue for the dogs and if you find them by all means pick them up but let the office know exactly where they were found so further action can be taken. Facebook is a good tool to warn others but the office needs to know so action can be taken. In line with Councils policy of continual improvement, the old evaporative air conditioner has been removed from the Marsula Brine building and replaced with two reverse cycle air conditioners. These will be useful in both summer and winter. The committee and officials at the Northern Districts Shows were very appreciative of the heating as it was a bitterly cold weekend. Just a reminder for the clubs using the rooms as these are now refrigerated air conditioners the doors need to be closed for them to operate effectively. It is again the time of year when many of us seem to travel to major events such as the Brisbane and Melbourne Royals plus other major events for other disciplines. With the cost of air freight rising and many now opting to drive, this adds to the risk so please travel safely and remember to take regular breaks both for yourselves and the dogs. With the travel comes the places to stay. Remember staying at a motel or cabin park is a privilege with dogs and it is so easy to lose as we have in many areas due to unthoughtful exhibitors. Just a reminder that if you decide to do the wrong thing in a motel, cabin park or any other accommodation and they or a fellow exhibitor report you, DOGS SA will have no hesitation to take action against you as you are considered to be bringing the dog world into disrepute. Let’s keep it clean for all. If you have an issue or query do the smart thing and contact the office, they are always more than pleased to assist and give you the correct response. Too many times I see it on Facebook where members are asking questions on the rules and regulations and more often than not the wrong responses are given. Go to source of knowledge and truth, the office. With some luck this cold weather will pass shortly and we can get into some nice spring temperatures. The Kennel Association of Republic of Macedonia (KARM) informs the FCI members and contract partners that Mr Slobodan MILOSEVSKI has been suspended as FCI international judge for a period of 10 years, from 15/07/2019 until 15/07/2029. Clubs must provide at least five people with three preparing food and serving in the canteen and two cooking and serving the BBQ. It is possible for 2 Clubs to work together to provide enough volunteers.

RAHS Award for Mrs Marion (Mari) Lowden Mari

Lowden has had a decades long association with the Royal, first as an exhibitor, but in more recent times, as a volunteer carrying out a variety of responsibilities on behalf of the Dog committee. Serving first as a steward for the dog section, starting in this role in 1997. Since then, she has faithfully and positively attended each day from as early as 7.00am until close of day, as late as 9.00pm. Such was her standing and commitment in this role, that on the death of Mr Bill Egan, the committee invited her to take on his assignment to become our show manager. Adelaide has always been known as “the friendly Royal”, an accolade grounded in large part on the consideration of exhibitors in our programming and in the calm helpfulness of our yellow coated stewards. I believe that, under Mari’s leadership over the last six years, this aspect of our show has been greatly enhanced. Mari has an outstanding relationship with the show committee (she attends all the meetings), the stewards and (perhaps most importantly) with exhibitors. Her gentle Scottish voice (which incidentally masks the steel underneath) has served to bring calm and reason into many a heated exchange during competition. She has the respect of all. Mari’s role brings her into the show weeks before, and even after the actual exhibition as she helps with mail outs, management of ordering, checking of supplies (ribbons, stationery) and

setting up. She is a tireless worker who supports the committee wholeheartedly and manages the stewards and the day to day running of the show with calm efficiency. The committee’s regular meetings, her voice is important, keeping us focused on the detail, while not overlooking ‘the big picture’. Each year, she presents a Show Report to the committee, which becomes an integral part of our planning for the following year. The Dog Committee therefore requests the Society gives recognition to her invaluable service through the awarding of a Long Servicing Volunteer Award. Page 7

Retrieving news The last retrieving trial for most of us in SA was held on 10th and 11th August by the Retrieving & Field Trials Club of SA Inc. Results elsewhere in this issue. The Vics came to play, and yes, unfortunately they beat us. 1st and 2nd in both All Age Stakes were a GSP Bitch and a Labrador Bitch from Victoria, alternating their places each day, but close on their heels was a Lab. Dog from SA. I shall ensure that at all times all dogs under my control are properly and effectively contained by fencing or enclosure, and are properly housed, fed, watered, exercised and given proper Veterinary attention if and when required. (a) I shall not allow any bitch owned by me and/or under my control being mated before she is twelve months of age. (01/12) (e) All bitches eight years of age and over at the time of a mating must have a current veterinary certificate stating that the bitch is in good health at the time of breeding. This certificate must be presented at the time of registration of the litter resulting from this mating. A current veterinarian certificate is defined as being within three months prior to the mating. I shall not knowingly permit any of my pure bred dogs to be mated to a dog of a different breed, to a cross bred dog, or to an unregistered dog of the same breed, or to a dog of the same breed which is entered on the Limited Register, unless specific permission is given by the SACA. I shall not sell or otherwise transfer from my care any puppy under eight weeks of age, thus allowing for vaccination to be given at six weeks of age and thereby allowing for the ten to fourteen days for the vaccine to take effect. Upon the disposal of the dog I shall provide the owner with a current vaccination certificate of that dog issued by a Veterinary Surgeon. Accepted Veterinarian vaccination certificates are C3 12/36 months, C4, C5 or an annual Titre Test accompanied by a Veterinarian letter. (01/19) I shall not knowingly sell or otherwise transfer from my care any dog that is not in good health. I shall ensure that any puppy that is to be exported shall be a minimum of eleven weeks of age and micro-chipped. (01/12) I shall ensure that all persons acquiring dogs from me clearly understand their responsibility for the care and welfare of the animal as defined in Clause 1 and 2 above. I shall not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, nor falsely advertise, or mislead any person regarding the performance of any dog. I shall provide to all purchasers of dogs or those placed by me, written details of all dietary and vaccination requirements and responsible dog ownership and/or an appropriate publication relating to such requirements. I shall not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers, or directly or indirectly to allow a dog to be given as a prize or donation in a contest of any kind or to be auctioned. AGILITY NEWS The Agility Advisory Committee would like to congratulate Tamara Holmes and her dog Hunter on recently gaining Hunters Agility Champion title. A well-deserved reward after a lot of commitment and effort to get him there overcoming injuries. All that effort has paid off. The Agility Advisory committee would like to highlight the rules to both Judges and Competitors regarding competitors entering competitions under Judges that have trained those competitors. Except where the judge is an instructor at an affiliated club. Below is an abstract of the rule from the Conduct of Judges in the SACA Rules which relates to all disciplines. 6.
