Fear of February Poker Run and Chili Cook-Off at rocky mount harley-davidson Saturday February 9th, 2013 We had a pretty good day on Saturday, Feb. 9th at Rocky Mount HarleyDavidson. The Rocky Mount H.O.G. chapter # 3550 hosted an excellent Fear of February poker run & chili cook-off'. The weather was a bit cool, but with plenty of sunshine and only a slight breeze. First, second & third place in the Chili Cook Off received ca$h prizes & trophys, The poker run participants won ca$h prizes for the Best Hand, Most Jacks & Worst Hand. As usual, the staff @ RMHD visited with the crowd & posed for pictures.

flHelping Hands Brotherhood as bikers r/c Cabin Fever Chili Cook-Off On 2-16-13, approximately 80 bikers, family and friends, battled the messy, snowy weather to attend Helping Hands annual Chili Cook Off. Unspoken Sons MC, Tuckahoe MC, Southern Cruisers RC, CHMRC, and many independent riders were represented at the event. There were 4 participants in the Chili Cook Off battling for that first place trophy. Chopper of Tuckahoe MC took the First Place Award along with the Peoples Choice Award. I guess Chopper can claim all bragging rights on this one. First Runner Up went to Cornbread of Helping Hands Brotherhood As Bikers RC. I am going to tell you, it was a tough competition. All four of the participants took this competition seriously. BBQ was also served to everyone that attended. A 50/50 contest and a Corn Hole The BB crew sure enjoyed competition was also held. bikers Helping those in need On 12-15-12, Helping Hands Brotherhood As Bikers RC and Tuckahoe MC joined forces to provide toys and food for three families in the Duplin County area. The Bikers, along with a little help from Santa Clause, distributed toys to two families and provided food for the third family. A total of six children recieved toys that day. All the kids were very excited about the toys they were given. The three families were very appreciative of everything they recieved. There is nothing like seeing the look on a Bikers face when they have made a child happy. That look is PRICELESS. BBQ Brothers Open House On January 26, 2013 the BBQ Brothers R/C held the Grand Opening of their new Club house. There was a 50/50 drawing, prizes and of course some of their fine BBQ. Not many people get the chance to give their opinions on the BBQ Brothers exquisite BBQ. While the BB crew was there, a question was asked of some of the guests who attended,”How does this BBQ taste to you?” The answers given were: Zach - BBQ is real good! Chaplin Taz - This BBQ is delicious; it makes your tongue beat your tonsils for another bite!!! Cheyenne - This BBQ is better than chicken!!! Bart Man - Wonderful!! Rain Check - Everything is good, the BBQ is AWESOME! Richard -Good! Great Food! Bear - BBQ is fine, can’t complain, it is gone. (And there is a big grin on Bear’s face as he wipes the BBQ sauce from his beard.) COD - I could eat some more! (He gives this answer with a smile as he is chewing on some skin cracklings.) Jursy -Awesome BBQ!!! For some interesting history, BBQ Brothers R/C started in October of 2011. They started out as a joke. All the members had been with other clubs and wanted another club for just fun and fellowship. The club has grown since it’s inception and they needed a hangout. They have been in their present club house since August 2012. Their colors are Black, Red and White. The Black is on the ceiling of their club house to represent the sin of this world and how it affects all of us. Below the black ceiling is a wide Red stripe around the interior of the club house to represent the precious Blood of Jesus that washes away the sin we are under. The rest of the walls are white to represent the purity that come to us through the blood of Jesus.

They are quite active in raising money for children. They donate their proceeds to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Last year they participated in the Ride for Kids and raised $6,425 in 2012. This year they have a goal to double that amount. This year the Ride for Kids will be May 5, 2013 and they invite you to come and ride with them to meet this goal. BBQ Brothers R/C has some wonderful BBQ sauce available and if you would love to have them serve you some of their delicious BBQ, please contact them at: bbqbrothersecrc@yahoo.com You will not be disappointed! We all will experience fear at some time, but there is one who will help us with all of our fears. The Bible says to fear not as the Lord is with us to help us. Fear does not have to rule your life. When fear is to an excess where you cannot function in life it may be time to seek help, counseling, and talk it over with a counselor, doctor, or minister. Below are some common phobias. Poker Run

On May 4th 2013 SAFCAB will hold their 3rd Annual Poker Run & All Day Event Fundraiser for Domestic Violence Awareness. We have two main goals with our annual event. First, we want to promote awareness about domestic violence and let people know they are never alone. Second, we want to raise money for our local shelters. The shelters give and do so much to help those in need. Their doors are always open. All proceeds from this event are going to a local shelter, Safe Space, located in Louisburg, NC. They help people from all around our area. For more information on them, visit www.ncsafespace.org. Safe Space has something called the “Purple Shoe Display” that is put up at each event. They use men’s, women’s, teenagers and children’s shoes to represent victims that have died as a result of domestic violence. Seeing this display makes such an impact and gives you a visual representation of the reality that people sometimes don’t survive domestic violence. THAT is why we do this…to help people realize they can escape those bad situations and to support those shelters and organizations that offer a safe place to turn to when they’re ready to leave. Last year’s poker run had over 100 bikes turn out despite the threatening weather. Many people rode and enjoyed the all-day event, even in some rain, to help us raise and donate $5,100. Our goal this year is to double that amount. This year’s poker run starts at Ray Price Harley Davidson in Raleigh, NC. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and kickstands will be up at 11:00 a.m. The ride will be a 70+ mile ride with a majority of it being on country roads. Stops include Pastimes in Garner, Heidi’s Two Wheel Café in Smithfield, Cleveland Draft House in Garner and will end at Locked & Loaded Grill in Garner. Prices for the poker run are: $20 for Biker to include poker hand, raffle ticket, event t-shirt & food plate $5-$15 for Passenger ($5 for poker hand & raffle ticket, $5 for event t-shirt, $5 for food plate) The passenger can choose one, two or all three. There will be food plates for sale at the event for $7 for those that do not ride in the poker run. There is also an all-day event going on at Locked & Loaded Grill at 1125 Hwy. 70 West in Garner, NC that will begin around Noon and continue into the night. Our exciting and rockin’ band line-up includes High Voltage, No Halos, Eat’m & Smile, The Occasionals, an All-Star Drum Show and Lexx Luthor with DD Productions running the sound. Between bands, Wanda Thompson Karaoke will be entertaining everyone with music & karaoke and if you’re not dancing in the parking lot, maybe you can take a shot at the dunk tank that will be there too.

SAFCAB is overwhelmed by the support and generosity of the music community and their commitment to raise awareness for domestic violence by donating their time and talents. Because there are only so many hours in the day, we actually had to turn bands away that wanted to donate their time and support this cause, so we’re planning a second music event in the fall at Cleveland Draft House, so be on the lookout for that date coming soon. During the all-day event at Locked & Loaded, there will be raffles throughout the day. We are expecting over 100 raffle items including a guitar signed by many local & national artists…”PUH-POW”! The raffle is setup so that you can “choose” the prize you’d like to win. There will be separate bags with each prize so you can drop all your $1 raffle tickets in the bag(s) of your choice and of course, the more tickets you buy, the better your chance of winning the prize you really want. There will be many vendors setup at the event as well to offer you some great deals and you may even see some items you’ve never seen before. We really are overwhelmed by the support that we receive from the entire community each year. We have to thank so many that donate their money, time, services and talents to this worthy cause. TT&E Iron & Metal has committed to being a major sponsor for a 2nd year in a row. Lizard Lick Graphics has donated our posters & flyers with their awesome design. White Swan Chicken & BBQ and of course Behind Barz have also shown so much support. We have to give a special thank you as well to the planning committee and all of the SAFCAB extended family. We couldn’t do this without each and every one of them. By participating in this event, you let everyone out there know that abusing someone is NOT okay. You also let victims know that you support them, that they never have to tolerate any kind of abuse from anyone and that they’re not alone. There is a way out and a place to go when they’re ready to escape. Your donations and support help provide food and shelter and a safe place to turn to through organizations like Safe Space. We hope everyone will mark May 4th, 2013 down on their calendars and join us for a great ride, music, food, fun and fabulous prizes all while helping those that need it most in order to start a new, safe, happier life.

Frequently Asked Questions Who can do this? WE WANT YOU...to do this. Anyone can help. Colleagues, students, sports teams, friends and neighbors. Support the troops by paying it forward. It’s fun and easy and of course family friendly. Save your current magazines and start boxing up your surplus holiday candy the month of December! Don’t buy any extra candy...our mission is to support the troops & wounded warriors by joining forces as a community and sharing what we already have. Got some change burning a hole in your pocket? Save it for postage! All you need is $13.45 to mail one box! Don’t waste any space...fill the boxes to the rim...they are flat rate after all! T4OT Official Candy Collection and Packing Guidelines Who receives the candy/Where will I mail my package/How do I get addresses? T4OT care packages are sent directly to deployed troops. All APO/FPO addresses will be accepted. Mailings will continue until all of the candy has been distributed. T4OT goody bags are personally deli. to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir throughout the year. Drop-offs and deliveries typically begin on Veterans Day 2012. Treats 4 Our Troops will provide APO/FPO addresses to you. How do we pack the candy for T4OT? Quality control is our priority. Please sort the candy as you collect and pack it in the T4OT care packages. T4OT only sends fresh candy that is from the current collection season. We rather err on the side of caution. Please be sure that ALL individual candy is unopened. Melted, smashed, opened and old candy is not accepted. For example please DO NOT send beach taffy etc. We want our treats to be fresh and seasonal for the troops. We do not include pixy stix or candy that may be viewed as inappropriate such as gummy body parts and eyeballs etc. If there is any question please do not include in the care packages. Chocolate is OK to send and we DO include it in our care packages. What kind of boxes do we use? Large APO/FPO flat rate boxes from the United States Postal Service. T4OT will provide these boxes locally. If you are not local the USPS have these boxes in stock. You can also order the boxes on the USPS website (at no charge) to be delivered directly to your location. Don’t forget your customs forms. What else goes into the care packages? T4OT packages include candy, cards/notes. T4OT also collects recycled magazines from the current season to include in care packages and deliveries to WRNMMC. “I Served” Stickers will be included as available. Does our group need to use specific tape? T4OT uses packing/box tape and or USPS priority mail tape. We request that you provide packing tape so that more of our funds may be used directly for postage. Please contact us if you are able to donate packing tape. The more we can collect, the more funds can be spent on the cost of mailing. What should our cards and notes say? All correspondence should be upbeat and positive. Please do not include any religious or political sentiment. Support and encourage the troops and “Wounded Warriors” with messages such as “Thank you for your service.” “Be safe.” “Hope you will be home soon.” Please do not specify gender when addressing notes and cards. Please feel free to contact T4OT with any questions or concerns @ y.roggen@treats4ourtroops.org How can we schedule a collection/packing event? The official candy collection will be held on a rolling basis. T4OT will work with your group to schedule a packing date. Packing dates are flexible based on your schedule. You can do as much or as little as you like. Each and every T4OT care package is serving one more service member! We do suggest that groups join forces with their community and host a packing event. Let’s serve those who serve this year! How do we get the packed T4OT care packages to you? You don’t need to! Pay it forward this year directly from your community. Host a bake sale, collect change for the troops, hold a lemonade stand. You get the idea! Gather your change and mail your boxes! It’s $1.00 per pound of candy. By joining forces with T4OT your community can make a difference and support the troops. Don’t forget to use the “America Supports You” flat rate APO/FPO boxes that are available for free at the USPS! How can our group sponsor T40T care packages/2012 collection? Treats 4 Our Troops relies on community and corporate donations to pay for postage. $13.45 sends a minimum of 13 pounds of candy directly to deployed U.S. troops. Grizz getz a surprise from D&Q Motorsports When I first met Jeff Bruce, I saw a big burley bearded biker that had the outside apperance of a bear. They say don’t judge a book by it’s cover and whoever they are, they are correct. I have found that Jeff is a kind soul that really cares about his family and his fellow biker. Let me share one of many stories with you. One of my club brothers took a very bad spill on his bike last year and was seriously hurt. His name, as many know him, is ”Grizzly” or Grizz. He is a man with a heart much bigger than life. Grizz went through a lot of pain and therapy and is still healing. One thing that really bothered him was that he couldn’t afford to get his bike repaired and get back out on the road. I was at Jeff’s shop, ”D&Q Motorsports of Angier” getting some new rubber for my bike. Jeff asked me about Grizz and I told him about the rough time he was having. Then, Jeff said, ”How about his bike?” I told him it was repairable but money wasn’t there. Quickly Jeff said, “Bring me the bike and I’ll fix it at no charge!” Wow! I was blown away! Here is a man willing to spend his valuable time and resources to help a brother biker in need. Jeff and his crew not only fixed the bike but they completely rebuilt it, new paint and all. It was wonderful to watch the food being prepared in part of the restaurant. The cooks were so engrossed in each and every plate they made up with a very artistic flair. They were intent in giving the best to each customer who came in.

Have you ever met a Wounded Warrior? If you have, did you notice that nearly all are very humble, especially when you call them a Hero? Tyler Jeffries is among those humble American Heroes. Tyler is a Specialist in the US Army. He joined the Army in January 2010, and was deployed to Afghanistan in April 2012. According to the Salisbury Post, on October 6, Tyler’s team was completing a mission to clear explosives in a deserted village. Tyler lost both of his legs to a non-detectable, command wired IED. Tyler eventually arrived at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Why did that interest us? Tyler was with the 2nd Infantry Division when he was wounded. My driver was serving in the 2nd Infantry Division when Tyler was born.

Departing he last fuel stop in VA. Tyler and his family are in the white SUV. Since my driver recently had a procedure done to his neck (which resulted from when he and I were hit in 2009), he prayed for strength to be able to endure a full day in the saddle. Thomas “G.E.” Sanders, my driver and I rode up to the DC area on December 21 – we ran into snow flurries while on the GW Parkway! On December 22, Tyler departed Walter Reed on leave to visit his family in Concord, NC. Five motorcycles led by Dennis Markle departed Walter Reed at o’dark thirty to escort Tyler and his family nearly 390 miles to Concord. It was c-c-c-c-old! By the time we reached the border of Virginia and North Carolina, the group had grown to about 30 motorcycles. The Virginia Patriot Guard handed off to North Carolina Patriot Guard at the first NC rest area on I-85. Sheriff Deputies from Cabarrus and Iredell Counties were with the Patriot Guard to ensure a safe escort.

GE was my Wingman on the ride! Most of the Virginia bikers returned home, but a few, including Dennis Markle and Philip Mahoney, rode the entire distance to Concord. While at the NC rest area, Tyler must have mentioned wanting to ride. There was a delay and I noticed people getting an extra jacket, insulated pants, a helmet and a head/neck cover. Tyler rode! GE became Tyler’s driver for 120 miles to Greensboro. That was totally pawesome! NEVER tell a wounded warrior that he or she won’t be able to do something! North of Henderson, a large crowd was standing on the overpass and waved as Tyler and his escort rumbled under them. From that point, several overpasses had firefighters, law enforcement officers and patriotic Americans standing on them to welcome Tyler home.

Two of our six mounted Sheriff Deputies. Near Butner, our LEO escort coordinated a rolling merge of more Patriot Guard Riders. When we arrived in Greensboro, a news reporter was waiting. There were many more bikers standing by to join the escort. On the final leg from Greensboro to Concord, LEO coordinated two more rolling merges. By the time we reached Concord, news reported estimated a couple hundred bikes and lots of cars. People were lined on the streets with flags, banners and signs to welcome Tyler home. We arrived at Cross Pointe Church in Concord at about 4pm. Tyler asked everyone to keep our military men and women in our prayers.

During the trip, I wore a bandana with the 2ID patch. Before GE, my driver and I headed home, we gave that bandana to Tyler. To add to the pawesome event, Mike Corrado gave us permission to use his song “Still in the Fight� for a video honoring Tyler. Collier HD had their Annual Mardi Gras Fat Saturday event on 9 February. This year marked the 10th Anniversary! Every year it seems Rudy Evans has to make more Gumbo and Crawfish than the previous years. His Gumbo recipe includes 25 pounds of shrimp, 25 pounds of crawfish meat, 25 pounds of Andouille sausage, tomatoes, corn, okra and a very special gumbo mix.

In addition to the New Orleans favorites, Collier provided refreshments and a tower of cupcakes with 25 tiny dolls hidden in them. Those who found the dolls received 10 percent off of items at Collier’s. It was a great day at Collier HD and when it was all said and done Rudy, with the help of Tony Midgett and Doug Askew, made 90 quarts of gumbo and 40 pounds of crawfish.

From The Pentagram to the Place of Skulls For anyone aspiring to be a great bike builder, this would be a challenging feet to accomplish. If someone hoped to be an amazing Rock guitarist, that too, would be a tough order to fill. To be a person of true virtue, nobility and morality, with a strong faith that can move mountains, this would be a great goal, too. To be all three, now that would be something! Victor Griffin (Knoxville TN) is all of the above! Victor’s testimony is nothing short of a journey, as the title says, from The Pentagram to the Place of Skulls. This is not just a catchy metaphor as Victor is the former lead guitarist of the legendary underground Heavy Metal band Pentagram and an original founder the band Death Row (‘81-’88). Both bands very well known in the ‘80’s Metal scene around Tennessee, Virginia and DC, but they are also very well respected in Heavy Metal music world wide. Probably two of the earliest innovating bands in what is now known as the “Black Metal” and “Doom” genres. While US arena’s throughout the ‘80’s packed in huge crowds for bands like Ozzy, Dio, Iron Maiden and Van Halen, Pentagram’s music was much more anti-social and non-commercial than even most of the great Metal acts of that day. None the less, the band managed some US publicity with write ups in the old “Metal Edge Magazine” for their records released in Europe on the legendary British label, Peaceville Records. They still have many fans in the European Metal circuit, even today. As a teenager, like many kids, he began to party and get wasted. Victor was kicked out of high school for cutting class and having parties at his parents house. But Victor loved his guitar and knew that it would be his life long pursuit, so he played his axe allot! Though a band with a name such as Pentagram would make anyone assume that the members were satanists, Victor confesses that he was never a satanic coven member. “I never was a satanist by definition, but at first I bought into the whole metal devil image of the band and later it all became more alluring.” says Victor. “I wore upside down crosses and started even reading the satanic bible. But I always knew growing up that Jesus was the Truth and I think that is what kept me from being consumed by my lifestyle.” Vic went on to explain “ I realized years later after my conversion to Christianity in ‘97 that satanism is purely a religion based on the selfishness of human nature.” In ‘99 Victor decided to form a new band called Place of Skulls (symbolic of the hill that Christ was crucified upon). He planned to use this band to take the message of the Faith to the club and bar scene rather than to the Gospel music scene. “That is where I came from from, so that is where I needed to go!” Victor told me confidently. Victor received allot of criticism for this from other Christians, but strongly felt it was the right place to be. “The Holy Bible says in

Luke chapter 18 that there was a religious guy in the temple praying that he was glad he was not a wretched sinner like that tax collector over there, but the tax collector just fell to his knees, beat his chest and asked God to forgive him. The tax collector’s prayer was the way we need to be.” explained Vic “I was a wretched sinner. Today I am not perfect, but I’m forgiven.” Truly a journey from the Pentagram to the Place of Skulls, both figuratively and literally. (see more about Victors music history by searching Pentagram, Death Row and Place of Skulls on Wikipedia) Victor began to ride a bit as a youngster when his dad got him a little YZ-80 that barely ever ran. He bought his first bike, a Harley-Davidson Sportster, in the mid ‘80’s and became so in love with bikes he began working on them with his friends. In ‘89 he built his first custom bike out of a ‘76 Shovelhead and Griffin Cycles was born. Victor has built some truly amazing choppers! In the years that followed towards his ‘97 religious conversion, Victor expressed that “God pulled the rug right out from under me and shook my senses to the core!” Almost losing his business, he said that “the mess of my life is what broke me to the point of being strong in my faith”. After truly devoting his life to Christianity he was “filled with peace Davidbecame Aldana “on fire for the Lord!” They and joy” and Victor often say, show me don’t tell me... Well they also say a 1975 picture is worth a 1,000 words, so just look at the pictures of Vic’s Custom Cycles! Listen to this mans music! He is the real deal! I was tickeld pink to learn that Victor has just recently became a patched member of one of my favorite David Aldana, today, Few MM. An Christian Motorcycle ministries, His Laboring awesome bunch of guys that do allot great work. Victor living a life ofofserenity. is a solid addition to that fine ministry! As Heavy Metal music was forged in the pistons of Peter Fonda’s Captain America Chopper in the film Easy Rider, when Steppenwolf first roared “Heavy Metal Thunder”, you will dig Victors tunes. Place of Skulls is musically similar to Black Label Society (Zak Wylde), Velvet Revolver (Slash) or Damage Plan (Dime Bag Darrel), but they have a very unique sound all their own with some mellow grooves like older Black Sabbath. Victor continues to produce NEW solo albums such as “Late For an Early Grave” and the soon to be released “In-Graved” which has Blues based Rock feel. Perseverance. Dedication. Courage. Devotion. These four words describe a woman who has been the pinnacle of a woman’s true motorcycle club. Jennifer Chaffin created Leather & Lace MC 30 years ago and today, she still reins strong as the club President. Jennifer’s hard work and dedication has gained the respect of the men’s motorcycle clubs across the country. In short, she created a women’s MC to prove to the men’s clubs that everyone can get along. Jennifer is passionate about motorcycling. In the early years, she was always stuck in the back of the men’s pack, totally ignored, and not taken seriously as a motorcyclist. After enduring years of these attitudes and feelings, she decided that it was time to create a woman’s motorcycle club that encompassed the passion she had for women’s and children’s issues, the freedom of the road, and the avenue that women motorcyclists could use enabling them to ride in the wind. Jennifer put ads in various motorcycling magazines across the United States. After a few weeks of the magazines being out in the streets, her mailbox was chocked full of letters from women from every part of the country wanting to be a part of her vision and dream. What has evolved from her 30 years of hard work is an International women’s motorcycle Club that has broken barriers and attitudes that were reserved for the most hardened of attitudes and mind set. Members of Leather & Lace MC are a strong, united group of passionate women that work hard in keeping Jennifer’s early vision alive and real. Raising money for non-for-profit organizations occurs on a monthly basis across the country. Every October members of Leather & Lace MC raise money for the Johns Hopkins Breast Cancer Research Foundation. There are also local fundraisers for organizations within the communities where the women live and work. Leather & Lace MC is all about helping people in need.

Members of Leather & Lace MC get together for all kinds of occasions. For those that don’t have other women to ride with, Leather & Lace MC opens up a magnitude of opportunities to ride with women from all over the country. It’s not unusual for members to plan attending runs in other states. There are gatherings regionally, at informal parties all the time. One member said, “We do enjoy each other’s company. And we find ourselves trying to figure out how to work in a trip here and there to go see each other. Being a few hours ride from each other is nothing really; it gives us a chance to blow some wind through our brain and get back to feeling like ourselves once we get to our destination. It is a monumental feeling akin to a religious high when we do all ride together – it still sends shivers through me!” The women of Leather & Lace MC are mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, grandmothers, and great grandmothers. Some of the women are paramedics, designers, accountants, managers, business owners, and web designers.

It was just paving the road to Lace for me!” Jennifer Chaffin has made many important and solid historical accomplishments in the history of women and motorcycling throughout her 30 year reign as President of Leather & Lace MC. Her vision and outlook in forming Leather & Lace MC has not gone unnoticed in many media outlets and television documentaries. There is the National Meeting that is held every year during Daytona Bike Week in Daytona, Florida. There is a mid-summer event where members travel with their families and spend a weekend together. Every opportunity to ride somewhere within the United States and meet up with one another and their families is an opportunity never missed. There are rides scheduled all throughout the country that always hold anticipation and excitement for everyone!
