Editorz Notez Very rarely do you ever find that Vinney will put pen to paper and write about anything! He told me that he felt compelled to do just that in this issue of BB Mag. This is written to Chewy and his pawrents by Editor, Vinney Byrne. We rarely meet someone or something that will motivate us (me) to write about them and/or their affect on us. What I want to pen (and I am no literary genius) is about Chewy. He is a special dog that unknowingly performed a tremendous mission. And what that mission was - is to spread love about our troops and to always remember the sacrifices they made to protect our country, our families, and to always remember eath other. Chewy, you were meant to be an angel for what you have done along with your pawrents - we all love y’all for what you have done. What inspired me to write this was that I just read your (Chewy) article for the Sept-Oct issue of BB. I teared up while reading it and told Doobie that all our readers will probably do the same. And Yes, I’m sure you will go to Heaven! And for those of us who believe, we’ll all have the pleasure of meeting you again! We love ya and will miss ya dearly! Make sure and get your collector’s issue of the Sept-Oct issue featuring our good friend, Chewy and his pawrents. Chewy The Biker Doggie’s “Farewell” is on pages 26-27.

RED Knights story: Gypsy
POKER RUN
photos: Gypsy
unless otherwise noted
On August 1, 2015 at Wizard’s in Ayden, NC the Red Knights sponsored a Poker Run and 50/50 Raffle. The ride started at Wizard’s and stopped at JJ’s, Bell Arthur Barn, Buck Wild Tavern and Wayne’s. While waiting for the riders to register we had the pleasure of meeting Kim Braxton. Kim is the breast cancer survivor for whom the benefit was held. She is one of the strongest, sweetest women I have ever met. She had such an engaging personality and positive attitude during our interview. Kim was diagnosed with breast cancer after going for a routine 3D mammogram in February of this year. She spoke of her diagnosis matter of factly, stating, “You could have knocked me over with a feather”. She said, “I just asked the doctor, where do we go from here?” Her course of treatment was a partial mastectomy and radiation. Kim said she feels blessed because she has watched many people diagnosed with cancer who are worse off than she is going through treatment. She also spoke sadly of those she met during treatment who did not survive. Kim says she usually rides with Mickey, aka Speed Bump, her husband of two years. Sadly, on this day, she was unable to ride due to being on antibiotics for an infection in her shunt site. Kim has twin daughters and together she and Mickey have five children.
Kim with her husband, Speed Bump.
Kim truly believes every cloud has a silver lining and we should all live each day to the fullest and never take life for granted. Kim wanted to make sure the Red Knights knew her heart felt gratitude for sponsoring a benefit for her and her family to help with unpaid medical expenses. Donations for Kim can be made to Kim at Wizard’s 6250 Hwy 11 South, Suite B. 28513

Motor Maid News antique bikes on main SC Motor Maids enjoy Antique Bikes on Main event in Chesnee Every year there’s a fantastic little town called Chesnee that puts on a weekend event that can rival bigger towns. It’s called Antique Bikes on Main and it’s a fun filled two days you will never forget! You’ll find great people, delicious food, free fair rides for the kids, antique bikes, a huge swap meet and of course bikers from all over!
story & photos: Diane Dixon S.C. Motor Maid Director
The Motor Maids were introduced to Chesnee in 2012 when our convention was held in Spartanburg. The Chesnee Mayor, Mr. Cash, is an avid Harley rider and invited all the Motor Maids to parade from Spartanburg to Chesnee where the whole town welcomed us and threw us a grand party! Since then, the South Carolina district has maintained their great relationship with this lovely town and returned every year for this event. The great fellow’s at Chesnee Classic Cycles always puts together a great fun filled event with something for everyone to enjoy. Motocross jumping, Saturday night fireworks display and a live band on Sunday are just a few of the great things to enjoy. We always meet so many nice people from the town and also visitors who love motorcycles. So if you’re looking for an awesome, family fun, biker weekend, check out Chesnee’s Antique Bikes on Main event. The event is always the last weekend in July. See you there next year!
The city of Chesnee welcome the Motor Maids.

Unspoken Sons MC Freedom Ride The Unspoken Sons MC participated in an Independence ride on July 4th. They left Kinston headed to Fort Macon on the appropriately named Freedom Highway. The ride was peaceful and beautiful with a slight breeze blowing and bright sunshine.
storyand photos: Jennifer YooHoo Tanner
There is a feeling of peace sitting at the fort, enjoying the breeze and the smell of the salt air. The history is so strong that you can feel the presence of previous inhabitants. We were privileged to witness the firing of one of the original cannons that still remains at the fort. The firing of the cannon echoed the sounds of what once was a fight for freedom. A freedom that we now enjoy and at times take for granted. The triumphs and tribulations that took place at the fort have shaped our history as we know it. “We have to preserve our history and share it with younger generations so it is not lost (Nasty USSMC President)

Dehydration Dehydration, also known as hypo-hydration, is not enough body water with an accompanying disruption of metabolic process. Dehydration occurs when water intake is insufficient to replace water lost. Symptoms of dehydration include thirst, headache, general discomfort, loss of appetite, dry skin, decreased urine volume, confusion, unexplained tiredness, and irritability. More prolonged or severe dehydration leads to abnormally dark urine, rapid breathing, constipation, decreased blood pressure, dizziness or fainting when standing up due to orthostatic hypotension, listlessness, insomnia, and loss of skin elasticity. Untreated dehydration generally results in delirium, extreme lethargy, seizures, sunken fontanelle (“soft spot of the skull) in infants, fainting, sunken eyes, unconsciousness, swelling of the tongue and, in extreme cases, death. Dehydration symptoms generally become noticeable when 2% of normal water volume has been lost. Water leaves the body in many ways. Water loss includes such processes as sweating, v omiting, through skin and the respiratory tract. In humans, dehydration can also be caused by a wide range of diseases and states that impair water homeostasis in the body. Likelihood of dehydration increases with the consumption of diuretics, including caffeinated or alcoholic beverages. For routine activities, thirst is normally an adequate guide to maintain proper hydration. With exercise, exposure to hot environments, riding on hot days or a decreased thirst response, additional water may be required. The treatment recommended, by many medical web sites for minor dehydration, and considered the most effective, is drinking water and stopping fluid loss. In more severe cases, correction of a dehydrated state is accomplished by the replenishment of necessary water and electrolytes by intravenous therapy. As oral rehydration is less painful, less invasive, less expensive, and easier to provide, it is the treatment of choice for mild dehydration. For severe cases of dehydration where fainting, unconsciousness, or other severely inhibiting symptom is present, emergency attention is required, call medical personnel for assistance. Ride safe, be blessed and give a fellow biker a bottle of water to stay healthy and hydrated.

Smiles all around at the Dragon Slayer’s Fest despite the torrential rain that fell most of the weekend!
This year’s Dragon Slayer’s Fest was a great turn-out despite the heavy (and I mean heavy) rain that fell through most of the weekend! There was still tramendous support from our all of our biker brothers and sisters!!! The Dragon Slayers would like to extend a big thanks to the following sponsors who helped us with the 2015 Slayer Fest: Freedom Biker Church, Anette’s Katch Seafood, Behind Barz Magazine, and Tippets Mill. Thanks also go out to the many vendors who came out as well as the two headlining bands, Bill Dillard Project and AutoMag. Last but not least, the Dragon Slayers want to thank all of the other MCs and RCs that came out and showed their support. It was a great weekend of fellowship and brotherhood and we look forward to next years event!

from the
mind of big ed It made me feel so good to see her loving to ride! It’s an instant bond that we share. She’ll jump on the back with just the first sign of a notice if I’m going riding and want her to come with me. Some kids like playing games on the TV. Some kids like to play outside. But my kids love to ride! Always have. When both of them were small, I would put them on the bike. Even when I didn’t own one for a spell I’d go borrow one and sure enough, they were on it. People would ask, ain’t that dangerous? Well folks, the way I see it, you can get hurt with anything these days. Heck.. you could ride to the store in a tank and a comet might fall out of the sky and BAMO!!! I’m very careful when they are riding and I explain to them the reasons why. I also tell them what to do and how to ride safely to ensure both our safety.
Hello you Happy Riders!!
Riding my bike and living the life as a biker is not just something I do. It’s my way of life! Being on two wheels is more then freedom of the open road. It’s more than hanging with my bros. It’s in my blood!
One of the best feelings in the world when it comes to riding, is having one of your children ride with you. My daughter and son do love riding on the back of my bike! Since my son is still kinda young, he’s 10. I try doing short rides with him and of course, I take it slow. He’s a wormy little fellow, so he kinda keeps my guard up with most of the ride. Simply because he wants to look everywhere and he wants people to notice him riding. Ha Ha Ha!!!
My Grandpa rode an Indian. My Dad rode a Harley...and now, I ride a Harley. The kids grandparents ride on their Mom’s side.
My boy is hard headed and even tho I tell him to keep hold of me, he can’t help wanting to move all over the seat. The fear of him just bailing off and causing a hell of a crash is always on my mind so, I usually tie him to me with a rope...yelp...a rope. I tie him straight to me and that helps me feel a little better. Now, my Daughter, she totally digs it man!!! Harley loves to ride! It’s in her blood. It’s in her name. She is on her way to becoming a straight up biker, for sure! Just recently, she and I took off from Dudley on the bike. We headed to Pink Hill to see some friends that were having a house warming party. Man, the look on her face! I kept a constant eye on her thru the side mirrors but there was no need. From all The WHOOOOOOs and YEAHHHHHs I could hear her doing in my ear from the back of the bike I could tell that she loves it!!! She had her biker boots on...her jeans...a Slip Knott shirt and her shades on. She kept yelling ( DADDY, THIS IS BAD A$$!!!) and (I LOVE IT!!!).
This passing this love of this life to my children makes me feel that I’m passing on something they’ll always remember. It’s something that when I leave this world they can look back on their memories of me and say, when Dad was living it sure was fun riding with him on his bike! And if they get a bike of their own later on, I will always be alive in their hearts because I’ll be riding with them. And that people, is away to stay with your children forever! So, to all you Moms and Dads who ride and have children, teach them the way. Show them how to ride. Teach them to be safe and create the bond that will live forever in their hearts. Being a biker and a parent ain’t about just riding solo. Being a biker and a parent is loving the ride and the memories you make with your children while riding.
So, until the next time..
I’ll seeing you in the breeze. Behind Barz.... Big Ed (2Timer)

Jerry’s Annual Memorial Ride
story: Lady D photos: Moe
Jerry’s Memorial Ride On June 13, 2015, bikers gathered together for the first Jerry’s Memorial Ride. Mr. Jerry Grimes passed due to sarcoidosis last year. This memorial ride was held to draw attention to this unfamiliar disease. Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease that can affect any organ in the body. It causes heightened immunity where a person’s own immune system will over react resulting in damage to the body’s own tissues. The ride went to all his favorite places and of course motorcycle shops as Mr. Jerry loved to ride, help others learn to ride and help bikers ride safe. A memorial stop and time of remembrance was at his graveside to honor him for his kindness and love to all. The final stop was at a restaurant in his home town. Raffles, 50/50 drawing and plates were served from his favorite restaurant to raise money for The Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research, Faith Church of Goldsboro and Tim Tucker who is surviving sarcoidosis.
What a great ride with the sun smiling in joy to honor Mr. Jerry Grimes for all the love he has given to all. RIP Jerry Grimes.

Been There, S
Sniff Ya
By: Chewy (Biker Dog)
I’m dogficially retired. As I barktate this article to my driver, I don’t know if I have days, weeks or months. On June 26, I collapsed and my pawrents took me to the Emergency Animal Clinic in Cary, NC. The doctor took x-rays and found a grapefruit-sized mass in my spleen. She didn’t think I would make it through the night. She was prepared to do surgery, but she believed I needed a specialist because she suspected pheochromocytoma (adrenal cancer). She arranged for NC State University Veterinary Hospital to accept me as a pawtient.
My driver carried me inside the hospital. They were waiting for me and a vet tech took me from my driver and put me in ICU. It was all a blur for me, but NCSU worked hard to stabilize me. By Sunday afternoon, they felt I was well enough to have a CT Scan on Monday. I was released from ICU on Monday afternoon. The surgical team (one of the best in the world, so we were told) talked with surgeons at Duke Hospital. The CT confirmed I was battling pheochromocytoma. I had also bled inside, but they felt it might have clotted. I was anemic and my platelet count was low. The surgical team estimated there was an 80% chance I would not survive surgery. If I survived, I would probably pass away in ICU. I was weak, but I wasn’t in pain. The docs expected me to live a couple of weeks – maybe a month. My primary vets (Dr Bailey and Dr Warner of Animal Hospital of Peak Plaza) took over. Doc Warner was in contact with my pawrents the morning after I collapsed. She talked with the NCSU attending doc a few times. Doc Warner said that my pawrents did the right things and made the right decisions. I can’t be active anymore or ride my Harley because the vibration or bumps might pop a clot loose and I’ll bleed internally again. My pawrents are watching me and if I’m in pain, they’re going to take me to the doggie hospital and help me go to sleep. I’ve had a pawrific life! My pawrents adopted me the day I was to be put to sleep, so my life with my family was a second chance. I’ve sniffed more places than most dogs and did things with my driver that most dogs (and people) could only dream of. Since March 2008, I rode about 94,000 miles with my driver. Along the way, we honored lots and lots of Fallen Heroes, showed respect to our military members and veterans, helped with lots of charity events, and sniffed more people than I have fur on my paws.
Chewy on one of his many adventures!
26
If we haven’t met, that’s OK. We can meet in Heaven. My pawrents and I rest our hope on Isaiah 11:6-9. My driver read it to me a lot of times. There is mention of wolves, lambs, leopards, lions, cows and cobras in Heaven. We pray that dogs and cats will also be in Heaven because we doggies are kin to wolves, and the kitties are kin to lions and leopards. So, maybe God will let us dogs and cats into His Kingdom so we can be with our families furever. You can be certain of going to Heaven if you accept Jesus as your Savior. If you don’t, then there’s no chance of us meeting in Heaven.
www.bikerdoggie.com
Sniffed That
Ya Later We don’t know if I have days, weeks or months. My pawrents are following doctors’ orders to love on me and spoil me. As of writing this article, I’ve been around longer than expected, so I’ve already beat the odds. Doc Warner told my pawrents that whatever we’re doing, we need to keep on doing it. The key to me beating the odds is all the prayers from the hundreds, if not thousands, of people. God answered those prayers and gave me a little more time with my pawrents so they can emotionally prepare themselves. It’s hard for them to do, but my pawrents are posting updates on my Facebook page several times a week. There are a few dogs who do what I did to honor the Fallen and the military service members. The ones I have ridden with are Snoopy and Kimi. If you see them, give them a gentle pat on the head or an ear rub and encourage them to keep their “tongue in the wind”!
Y’all be safe and I’ll sniff ya later – in Heaven. Chewy

Editor’s Note:
Chewy with his driver, Butch.
Chewy and Butch, we have been honored to have you grace the pages of BB Mag with your wonderous travels and incredible missions! You have given so much to the biker community and to our soldier heroes that you escorted home. You paved the way for other biker doggies to live the Behind Barz Life and with every adventure you inspired your non-furry friends to keep the faith. You traveled more miles on your bike in your lifetime than most bikers do in theirs! You and Butch have been an inspiration! We are going to miss you so much Chewy.
You have been so blessed to have your parents (pawrents) Butch and Jo....and they, like us, have been so blessed to have you! Doobie

~ Treat Every Head Injury Like an Emergency ~ By David Henson Managing partner of HensonFuerst Attorneys.
If you’re a biker (or any adult, really), chances are you have had a concussion, or you know someone who has. When I was a kid, we used to call concussions “getting your bell rung.” It was considered a minor thing, just part of growing up and being active. *********************************************************
Now, we know better. The medical term for concussion is Mild Traumatic Brain Injury, or MTBI. Because that’s exactly what it is: a brain injury. Scientists have recently discovered that people who receive multiple concussions in their lives are at risk of developing a more serious condition called Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. This disorder has only one cause: Repetitive brain trauma… and that includes concussion. It is a disease that causes damage to the central nervous system, leading to dementia, nervous system failure, and eventually death. The symptoms can mimic Lou Gehrig’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. That’s why any hit to the head should be treated as a potential emergency. Immediate signs and symptoms of a concussion may include:
Symptoms of concussions may not appear until later include: •
Difficulty concentrating
•
Difficulty remembering new information
•

Remember that adults with head injury probably won’t be thinking clearly, and they may refuse immediate treatment. If necessary, force the issue and call 9-1-1. In some rare cases, what seems like a mild head bump can cause a dangerous blood clot that can be deadly. (That’s what happened to actress Natasha Richardson in 2009 after her fall on the ski slopes.) The safe bet is to call 9-1-1 after any head injury…no matter what anyone else says. After a fall, a woman I know was briefly unconscious, but when she awoke, she fought the idea of going to the hospital. But a witness knew she wasn’t acting properly and seemed very confused, so emergency vehicles were called. Good thing—she ended up having her skull fractured in two places, and bleeding on the brain. A damaged brain isn’t a rational brain.
Call 9-1-1, even if the victim says she is fine, and even if others believe help isn’t necessary. You may save a life. (Three years later, that woman has recovered totally, with just some minor residual memory issues.) The one lesson I try to impart to friends, family, and clients is that if you have to err at all, err on the side of being over-protective. I don’t think anyone has died from an abundance of caution. Emergency information at your fingertips. I recently discovered that there are apps for smart phones that can give emergency responders, hospitals, and doctors all the information they need should an accident occur. These are “In Case of Emergency” or ICE apps. Some are free, some must be purchased, but they provide an all-in-one place to list your current medications and dosages, your family physician, person to contact in case of emergency, your insurance information, and just about anything else you would want medical personnel to know. For more information about concussions and other types of brain injury, see the HensonFuerst Attorney’s website at www.lawmed.com. And, as always, Ride Safe!

Chapter One Let me get right to it, and I’ll try to keep it simple. A while ago 2 of my friends & I were out riding our Hogs and decided to have a friendly little ‘contest’. Suicide Sue was on her 2015 Breakout, Zeke was riding his 2012 Bagger and I was on my 2013 Dyna Wide Glide. We’re big fans of the Motor Company, and we’ve all installed some ‘power-adders’ to our bikes. Not wanting to incur the wrath of John E. Law, we headed out to our favorite place to test our mods with the least amount of risk to life & wallet. A few years ago some land developers decided to build a secluded community out in the county. I guess they got the ground cheap & jumped right into having the main road put in place. It runs true East & West, and they got about 3 miles down before the State decided to run power lines through the area & plant a nice big sub-station right smack across from the proposed development area. There was a lawsuit, the State won and the developers left. They left a beautiful drag strip out in the woods & when the entrance area became overgrown, it was all but forgotten about except for the maintenance crew that occasionally checked up on the sub-station. Or so I thought. I had seen a Power Company van turn onto an obscure dirt road one day and went back later to see what he was up to, that’s when I discovered the ‘Hidden Highway’. Over the years
30
my friends and I had gone back there from time to time to do burnouts and open up our sleds. We never gave the power sub-station any thought. It was fenced-in, locked up & of no interest to us at all. It was however, of great interest to some ‘Techno-Terrorists’ who had cut through the fence & planted a low-yield electromagnetic pulse explosive device in the middle of the sub-station. They were testing their device out in a remote area for the
close 2nd & Zeke was hot on my taillight. We were doing right at a hundred as we shot past the sub-station and that’s when the device detonated. Gulp! I could see the silver-white blast in my mirrors, the air shimmered, and Sue turned sort of glittery as if Scotty were beaming her up, and then she disappeared. My first thought was that she had been vaporized by the explosion and I was on my way to Valhalla. I wasn’t even close.
first time. The thing was supposed to disrupt the sub-station while sending an electric virus along the power lines that would destroy every electronic device it touched. Well, that was the theory. Here’s what happened: Zeke, Suicide Sue & I turned off the main road, made it the short distance on the dirt path that led to the ‘Hidden Highway’ & we all went into Full Power Mode as soon as our front wheels were straight. Sue shot into an early lead, I took a
A nanosecond later we were riding on the road that ran beside our ‘Hidden Highway’, desperately trying to slow down & get a grip on the situation. Zeke was still behind me, but with a baffled look on his face. I was also confused. I’d been on this road many times, but things looked different. Sue was looking back at me with a WTH just happened? expression on her face, so I pulled alongside her & shouted “Let’s go to the Hog Shop and take a breather.” Then things got really weird. Could it be a parallel-universe? Might they explore new worlds? Maybe leap across decades in an instant? ...or just step in and out of the flow of ordinary human time. Tune in next time to find out what happened to the trio and where 31 their marvelous adventures take them in A Tankful of Time!

motorcycle safety in the rain Motorcycle Safety in the Rain
The weather in North Carolina tends to be unpredictable. Although the weather may be perfect when you leave, you can suddenly find yourself in the midst of a downpour, so it’s a good time to talk about riding in the rain. We all get caught in wet weather, but not every rider knows how to stay safe. Here are some great tips for riding in the rain:
* Keep Calm and Carry On: Whether the roads are wet or dry, staying calm on your motorcycle is extremely important. It’s important to keep loose in dry conditions, but it is vital in wet conditions. Make sure to you are aware of obstacles such as painted lines, manhole covers, train tracks and puddles that can interrupt traction. Be easy on and off the throttle and brakes, but balance your grip. When riding in the rain, endeavor to complete your turn before accelerating. * Coverage is Key: You want to stay as dry as possible, which is not easy riding in the rain. Even if
you are wearing the most expensive rain suits, they will be put to the test in heavy rain. Make sure you invest in some protection if long rides are your thing because there are few people who like to get wet. Use of a full-face helmet will prevent the rain from battering your face.
* Think Before You Brake: Brakes can be delayed when the roads are wet, so when it becomes even more important to stop at a safe distance in rainy weather. Another tip is to watch your speed. Ride at a speed that your brakes can handle and be sure to overestimate the amount of time it will take to stop. It is critical to never apply only the front brakes because doing so may cause the front wheel to slip. In the event the rear wheel slips, you can control it, but once the front wheel starts to skid, you’re in trouble. Take care to squeeze, not grab, your brakes to prevent sudden shocks of force that can break traction. * Make Yourself Seen: Visibility is also a huge concern. Find a reflective rain suit or one with bright colors. You want to make sure you’re seen at all costs due to the decreased visibility the rain causes is one of the main reasons for motor vehicle accidents. * Rinse, Ride, Repeat: although it is not that enjoyable to ride in the rain, the best way to stay safe
while riding in the rain is to just do it. The more you ride the better you will be prepared next time. Practice builds confidence which leads to being a better rider. So the next time it starts to rain, go for a quick ride and build your skills!

Raptor-i, Wireless Helmet Communicator by Vertix Behind Barz Product Review
Review by Mike & Moe
photos: Gypsy
Vertix Raptor-i Wow! We just received our new Vertix Raptor-i, Wireless Motorcycle Intercom System. It has a sleek, compact design and we installed it in a matter of a few minutes. I must say its performance is top notch! The intercom/sound quality is awesome, even at higher speeds. The system provides crystal clear, long range audio between the paired parties. Even close range the sound clarity was superb! The Raptor-i provides fuss-free wireless communication on the move and is the perfect fit for motorcycles. It’s tried and tested for its undisputed clear and crisp communication through their noise-cancelling technology, even at speeds above 125/mph! Even though many of us might not be traveling on our bikes at that speed, it is nice to know that the peak performance and crisp clarity is still there. The Vertix Raptor-i can even be paired with other devices, like your phone or mp3 player, and comes with an FM radio. Everything is controlled simply with a remote control and it uses Bluetooth technology. We give the Vertix Raptor-i a 10 rating for its easy installation, ease of use and sound quality! Here’s a test video for your reference: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tjOuO08OIs

This is an open-faced helmet version of the Raptor-i by Vertix. There is a also a closed-face helmet version available. Whatever your noise cancelling needs are, Vertix can handle it and perform well!

The 8th Annual Cruisin for a Cure was a huge success! We changed our venue to the Royal Palace Theater and had the biggest turnout ever! We had cars, trucks, motorcycles, race cars and tractors! This year we even had live entertainment; “Unbroken” put on an awesome show! The Roanoke Valley and surrounding communities really came out to support our efforts to raise money to help find a Cure! Our family started raising money for Cancer research in 1997 by participating in the Roanoke Valley Relay for Life; from there we decided to be more involved by hosting a car show fundraiser. Cancer has touched our family too many times. Over the last year our family has not only been touched by Cancer again, but Alzheimer’s and Heart Disease as well. So this year we decided to raise money for American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s of NC, and the American Heart Association. Over the last 8 years Cruisin for a Cure has grown each year. The hard work is so rewarding. The money we raise will one day help to find a Cure! We would not be successful if it were not for our generous sponsors. We would like to give a special thanks to CJ Iron and Metal of NC for Event Shirts, Kentz Kustomz Cycles and Davis Body Shop for trophies. Also, special thanks to our 2015 artwork designers, Butch Oliver, Terry Davis, and Neal Grissom. DJ Scott Taylor provided sound for our event. Please see flyer or visit our FB page to see a list of our prize sponsors. We were blessed with over $15,000 worth of prizes. Thanks again to all our sponsors and to Behind Barz for all the great publicity and pictures and Wicked Lens Photography! Thanks to everyone who came out in support of this event. Hope to see you again next year! Especially my family and friends who put up with me and support my show year round!

STUrGIS The granddaddy of them all ~ the Sturgis Rally & Races could have had the largest rally numbers in history. According to locals and Rally attendees, it’s a unanimous, “YES!” Even the chief of police says this is the worst/most traffic he has ever seen in 38 years! The two past biggest Rally years for attendance was 3003 for Harley-Davidson’s 100th Anniversary and 2000 for the 60th Sturgis Rally. Both of these drew more than 700,000 visitors. When all the final numbers for the 75th are tallied we shall see if there were a million plus bikers in the Black Hills! For sure, the numbers more than doubled the population for the entire state of South Dakota!

The 17th fatal traffic accident related to the Sturgis Rally was reported in Wyoming at the annual Ham & Jam event. Black Hills and state law enforcement agencies confirmed there were no shootings, stabbings or major violent assaults during the Rally and DUI arrests were down. Sturgis weddings anyone? Interestingly enough, Meade County, S.D., reported that it had issued 122 marriage licenses to Sturgis Rally attendees, more than double last year’s total. We Ride for Those Who Can’t Rememberance Run
Riding for Those Who Can’t
Earlier this year, North Carolina welcomed home two of her sons who had been listed as Missing in Action in Vietnam for over 45 years. US Army Sgt. Bunyan D Price was aboard a UH1H helicopter that was shot down over Vietnam near the Cambodian border on 2 May 1970. Of the eight individuals on board, one managed to evade and escape, three were lost at the scene, and four were taken captive. Sgt. Price was one of those lost at the scene and was listed as Missing in Action. In April of 2014, remains were discovered within one mile of the crash site and returned to US control. In January of 2015 those remains were positively identified as those of Price. In April of this year, Sgt. Bunyan Durant Price finally came home. US Air Force TSgt Edwin E Morgan was the loadmaster on an AC-47D gunship that departed Da Nang Air Base, Vietnam on an armed reconnaissance mission on 13 March 1966. The aircraft failed to return and neither Morgan nor the aircraft was seen again. Between Oct. 21, 2010, and May 20, 2014, four separate recovery teams excavated the crash site recovering human remains, military equipment, and aircraft wreckage consistent with an AC-47 aircraft. Morgan’s remains were positively identified in January of this year, and on 25 June, CMSgt Edwin Morgan finally came home. While this is obviously great news, there is much work to be done! There are still 39 North Carolinians listed as Missing in Action from Vietnam. They are among the 1,627 Americans who have yet to come home from Vietnam. And they are among the more than 83,000 Americans who remain unaccounted for from all wars. That is why Rolling Thunder® Inc. Chapter 1 NC holds our “We Ride For Those Who Can’t” Remembrance Run each year. The primary purpose of this event is to educate the public that we still have many Americans who have yet to return from all wars, and to remind our government that we demand a full accounting of all those who remain missing and will not stop in our efforts until they are all home.
Funds raised from our event will be used to help us support programs that support and honor veterans, such as the NC Veterans Nursing Home, the Warrior Transition Battalion on Ft Bragg, and Wreaths Across America …additionally, they will be used to help us continue our mission to educate the public. We do this in many ways, to include donations of POW-MIA flags, distribution of POW-MIA magnets and wrist bands, distribution of informational brochures, and presentation of the Missing Man Table. Our goal is to ensure that when somebody sees the POW-MIA logo, they know what it stands for and understand the price that has been paid for our freedoms. We will also be announcing the winner of our current gun raffle. We will be giving away a Sig Sauer 1911POW-MIA Nitron, a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard® 380, and a $250 gift certificate to Lucky Dog Firearms in Sanford, NC. We are only selling 1,200 tickets…if you don’t have yours yet and would like one, jump on our Facebook Page and let us know (www.facebook.com/RollingThunderNC1). We hope you will join us this year as we take time to honor and remember our nation’s missing…and every year hereafter until they all come home. NEVER FORGET. Rolling Thunder® Inc. Chapter 1 NC is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization whose mission is to publicize the POW-MIA issue…to educate the public that many American Prisoners of War were left behind after all previous wars; to help correct the past and to protect future Veterans from being left behind should they become Prisoners of War-Missing In Action. We are also committed to helping American Veterans from all wars.
October 3rd 2015 will mark our 6th annual Remembrance Run. This year we are teaming up with Fort Bragg Harley Davidson in Fayetteville and will start and end the day there. As in the past, upon registration a shirt with the POW-MIA logo prominently displayed will be provided to each paid participant. Come early to ensure you get your desired size. Every time you wear this shirt – YOU TOO will be helping to make sure our POW-MIA’s are not forgotten. We will take a ride through the country where we can appreciate the freedoms we have because of the sacrifices of those who have served, those serving today, and those who have yet to return. Lunch will be provided and there will be some cool door prizes to give away as well as time to enjoy the fellowship of so many like-minded patriots. But the focus of our ride will be when we – strong in number and unified in our cause – roll down Hay St. in Fayetteville and into the NC State Veterans Park to honor our nation’s POW-MIAs.Here we will conduct the Missing Man Table ceremony, a somber and powerful visual reminder of our nation’s unaccounted for.
